Arrogant bunch. Never liked em since the infamous 3-3 at our place with Mr Stroud in charge. Acted like they had won the league that day and didn't do themselves any favours outside of the ground.

I’m not even reading the comments (soz Roy).

Reason being is both their opinions of O’Connell being way off reality and their arrogance ahead of the opening game of last season.

Mixed reviews really. The consistent message is that he is a no-nonsense centre half, that isn’t great with the ball at his feet. This leads me to believe he will probably take the central role in the 3 and it will be down to Stearman / Bash (on the right) and O’Connell (on the left) to carry the ball forward.

I think we, like Brentford, also like to carry / play the ball out of defence, but have recognised that we give away too many soft goals and the priority has to be to stop this. I think, regardless of Brentford’s views, John Egan perfectly suits our needs. Let’s not be a light touch this year, let’s have a mixture of tough / no nonsense defending when needed and be fancy in the right moments / areas.

He wasn’t made their Captain for no reason, even if he isn’t the most vocal on the pitch, he must have been their leader off it. I’m happy with this one and if Wilder (a stringent budget holder) thinks he’s worth £3-4m to our side, then I won’t question him.
Also don't forget how nesh we were at set pieces last season. We might actually get some goals from corners this year!

No nonsense stopper is exactly What we needed last year!

Think of all the soft goals - Cardiff at home for example that cost us the handful of points we needed to get in the play offs.

JOC and bash are pretty comfortable on the ball - we aren’t dying for another ball playing centre half imo. Just someone competent on the back to do the required to keep the ball out.

Welcome John

Great to hear many saying he is solid. The attacking side will be sorted with Wilder and his straff. HIs touch, passing, vision, and ability to bring the ball forward will improve. Still only 25, hungry and a leadertype fit Wilder and blades perfectly. His ability in the air will be gold defending inside our box and going forward on our set pieces. Now the wait for a new striker...Hope we sign McGoldrick as I think he looked good against Bradford. UTB!

They’re obviously very much up there own arses, especially in not knowing what a good player O’Connel has become, but then again we knew that from the game ’View Froms’ last season.

Not great comments...we'll have to make our own minds up,plenty of players do well at one club and not at another...clean slate and all that.

It sounds like he's what need. I.e. a proper centre half who puts his head in where he shouldn't, put's his body on the line and is first and foremost a defender

And more important IMO.

He also poses a serious threat at set pieces which our other defenders lack. “

Cheers Roy.
Delusional fuckwits have definitely been taking lessons in arrogance from the S6 massive.
Are Brentford now london’s Answer to Real Madrid??. Hahaha

Wilder is a fan of showing players fans views!
Print those off and watch him be a monster for us this season.

Hi all Bees fan here, there has been a lot of waffle on here about Egan and why Brentford are selling him. I suspect the clue is in the transfer fee if £4m is correct then compare that with what the club is demanding for Chris Mepham, that figure has been quoted at £20m. We also bought under 20 England international Ezrie Konsa from Charlton for £1m this summer. With these 2 alternatives to Egan I think Brentford just decided this would be a good time to cash in on Egan. There is certainly no slight on Egan's ability, he will do a good job for you. I for one am sorry to see him go. He will be a rock for you at the back and will be threat at set pieces in the opposition box.

That 'less ambition than Brentford' comment is fucking with my skull. ALmost every team in the championship has ambitions to get promoted and we are certainly one of them. Or do you blow 4 million quid on a defender and hope to do worse than the previous year?
