I didn't rate him whilst he was here but I also stayed off his back. With the benefit of hindsight there were plenty of mitigating circumstances surrounding his lack of success playing for us. He's had his rehab at Wimbledon and has now moved up a notch. It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if his career continued on this trajectory and made us all look a set of cunts.

According to Sean Thornton , George is going to get the clap when he returns to Bramall Lane, bit harsh

By club, I meant managers really. Albeit, the issues around his contract were hardly well managed.
Was this when he was offered a new contract and he took a while to sign it?

I believe Adkins offered him a silly money contract, he agreed, and when Wilder came in he refused to honour it and offered him a much lower deal, which he took a while to agree.

Adkins fault but I can see why someone would be annoyed by it.

He's have signed it straight away if it was "silly money" not wait for the manager to get sacked. As it turns out it's a praise for the club.

If he agreed to the contract offered wouldn't it be binding?

Why would you want that ,unless you mean the opposite to what I think you mean.
I mean I think he was fairly harshly treated by a large section of the fans. I hope he goes on to be a good keeper as he promised before he had his confidence wrecked.

Reading between the lines, and this has largely come from bits and pieces of info that have come out since Adkins left, it would seem he was verbally offered it and then that offer was taken away. He may even have had it in writing, I don't know.

Even if that's all bollocks, he wasn't protected by previous managers and even scapegoated. He's only 24 now. Still very young for a keeper.

I asked the question because you said he agreed it. Wilder must have had the offer withdrawn before any acceptance.

Fucking Adkins played fast and loose with the club's money, based on this and the immoral sweetheart deal he gave Hammond.

Personally, from what I’ve seen over the years Long isn’t a championship goalkeeper. He was a fairly decent shot stopper but was often a liability commanding his box. He had some decent games but they were outweighed by his calamity performances. Wish him well and though he occasionally got unwarranted grief i just don’t think he’s good enough. Obviously Adkins sees something the rest of us don’t....... but that wouldn’t be the first time would it?

If he’s good enough for Hull then why couldn’t we have kept him.

Given the apparent financial issues, would have saved some loan money.
Exactly, if Long is good enough for this league then its mental that we are paying money to Man Utd in some shape or form for Henderson. We are simply developing their player to either sell to us for a higher fee in the future or sell to someone else (Blackman being a prime example with loan fee). We have Eastwood, Long, Moore and probably Steele so it seems odd to be paying for Henderson. Henderson had a good season for Shrewsbury in League 1 and Long had a good season for Wimbledon in league 1 all seems a bit barmy to me

Well I always hoped he would come back to the Lane and put to bed all the pelters he got (yes, some but not all were deserved). I like Long. Always have, always will I guess (tin hat on awaiting pelters).

Good luck to him. Saw him at Orient in that glorious 1-0 victory when he can on as sub and played a blinder.

He has potential, I suspect that it comes down to opinions and personalities and clearly CW doesn’t see a role for him in his set up.
Me to, awesome that game, I thought we had a good'un for the future, what a shame things didn't work out.

Knowing United he will probably be the England star at the next World Cup.

Long has small expectations, if he enjoyed that garbage.
There may be different views on here about his goalkeeping, but if he has said that he is going to Hull because he has worked under Adkins before, then I think we can all agree that the lad has a great sense of irony.
