Thanks.

I was always crap with names and faces Mark, and I'm even worse when I can't see them ;)
Here’s how to tell them apart:

Giddings is the one who puts long pauses into his sentences.

Staton is the one who speaks fairly quickly and has a dry, mocking, sense of humour about him.

Buchan is the one who has flat vowels and sounds like he’s overdosed on nasal spray.

He's expecting whoever we sign up front to go straight into the team, it's got to be a loan as we can't afford anybody that good. Evans loan will at least give him a fighting chance to get going before he is declared past it so good for him but given our recent transfer dealings (easily derailed etc) and our obvious lack of cash in comparison to most other teams at this level I think letting Evans go before we at least have bodies in is going to be a problem. Then we have the issue of whether the players coming in are really that good, given that 3 of the last strike targets have been Cole, Sinclair and Holmes; none of whom have proved themselves since our interest then our management are continuing their naievity at this level or have a phenomenol surprise for us and by that I mean somebody of the calibre of Abraham.

I wish he’d been asked to define “over the odds” cos generally in Blades speak that means “the going rate”

You not a fan of Wilder’s way of doing business then?

I am a fan of how Wilder has has done his own business the last three months, so Is his wife and family. I wish I was as savvy in getting as good a deal at work.

Ok, I’ll reword it then. You not a fan of how Wilder does his business as part of his job as Sheffield United manager?

He’s hamstrung isn’t he, but he has a decent fall back...

If he consolidates and keeps us in this division next season it’s a success with the laughable backing from the board.

I’d we go down he gets to claim (with some justification) that he wasn’t backed properly.

Either way he will enhance or not do much damage to his own reputation.

He’s a good football manager and also a smart cookie.

Is he hanstrung? Didn’t he say recently he’d been given a good budget to work with?

I’m not sure what that has to do with the question anyway. Wilder said he won’t pay over the odds, not that he can’t pay over the odds. You insinuated that he really meant he won’t pay the going rate. Does that mean you aren’t happy with his way of going about things?

People seem, quite quickly, to have forgotten that Wilder was happy with the budget he had been given.

There are a lot semantics in there.

I don’t think there is a definitive quote that he was “happy” with a budget. The last definite quote I saw was he was negotiating for what he could have out of the Brooks money.

It's surely not wise to loan Evans out before we've physically brought in at least one more striker.

In any case, wouldn't it be better if he did at least most of pre season with us?

We certainly shouldn't be loaning him out on Monday given that we have the Bradford friendly on Tuesday.

Did he not sign a new deal after being told what his budget would be this year? What was it he said at that time?

People are letting this Brooks thing confuse matters. Wilder was told what budget he would have before Brooks was sold and he was happy with it.

I am just happy to see the back of Evans. My only regret is it isn’t permanently. If we need a fall back striker in case any of the “over the odds” forwards don’t get signed then I’d rather keep Lavery.

We’re covered enough for the friendly game at least with Lavery and Smith as options from the bench. Wilder wouldn’t be making the deal if he wasn’t confident he’ll be bringing in a better player fairly soon.

Obviously you know best ;)

Doasnt that tell you he's very confident of bringing in strikers to fill the spaces.Wilder is no fool and is on top of his job.
Plenty of pedantic worryers on here he will get it done.
Again it seems pigs are infiltrating our site and blades are falling for the bate.

I'm glad he's not sounding suicidal after this overseas training camp, I'd be worried if he was doing anything other than sounding positive and committed. If he was appearing browbeaten having signed a new (improved) contract and receiving assurances around the budget 3 months ago we'd be in the shit.

Bait. Sorry. Pedantic Pig.

Let's hope that the agent doesn't ask for an extra 200 grand or the player can't find his way out of the railway station, otherwise the real world Blades will be proven right to be cautious again.

I don’t see Evans going out unless we have someone lined up. We’re not that daft...

We'd need both though wouldn't we?

And the management seem to rate Evans higher than Lavery.

I'm not necessarily thinking about us being covered, I'm thinking about it as an opportunity to get Evans good minutes on the pitch before new strikers arrive.

It doesn't make any sense to loan him out before we've managed more of his pre season and had a look at him in matches.

What if he impressed at Bradford enough to change Wilder's mind? A bit like Brooks last pre season.

They are ‘making it’ confuse matters not ‘letting it’. The agenda must prevail.

Is he likely to get good minutes? With every pre-season game likely to build the likes of Sharp & Clarke up to 90 minutes, it strikes me as unlikely that he’ll be getting the sort of 45 minute stint he had in Portugal again.

I would imagine Wilder has weighed the likelihood of him having a wonder game at Bradford vs the need to get him game time, fitness, and confidence. I’m a bit amazed, particularly given how last season went, that this loan move can be viewed as anything other than a good thing for all parties. It’s only till the next window – hopefully we then have a player that will be useful to the squad and that can challenge the front two.

I think he can get 45 minutes at Bradford but any minutes would be better than no minutes - unless his new club had a friendly on Tuesday they intended to play him in.

We really might as well leave it till after this game to let him out.
