His contract ended in 2020 - see link - amazingly! So by my maths he was given a 3.5 year contract!

He did a good job though and I reckon he could have done a job off the bench last season to just rough the opposition up and hold the ball up but then Clayton came in. Good luck to him, hope he does well for them, always like AFC Wimbledon.

Mind boggling that we gave him a contract to 2020. Sums up the kind of ridiculous financial constraints Chris has to work within.

We didn't. Two and a half year deal announced on the OS when he signed so contracted to the end of this season (June 2019). There may have been an option for a further year but we weren't ever realistically going to take that up.

For me, Hanson actually provided us with 'unseen work' at a time we needed a 'Hanson'. The Fleetwood game at home was a clear indicator of a requirement for his services. Hanson's presence on the pitch also provided a psychological element, unseen.

GLTTL, cheers for the title winning season too.

I was seriously concerned watching that Fleetwood match.
They defended deep in numbers, has 2 big and strong centre half’s.
We controlled the game and did loads of attacking that night but never ever looked like scoring due to no height or physicality. We tried to play through Fleetwood but they packed their defence giving us no space. The 0-2 defeat wasn’t a fluke, they worked us out and highlighted our big weakness of over passing, not enough pace and no height or physicality.

I think on the night Wilder and Knill also realised that we had a major weakness and we’d been sussed.
They acted quickly and brought in a big lump to ruffle a few feathers if clubs decided to sit back like Fleetwood.

Hanson was like buying a sink tap, a specialist tool that you rarely use but it does the job if and when needed.
Agree he’s very limited but he did give Wilder an extra string to his bow to use as and when required.
Our team really lacked the industrial Hanson type player, so at the time he was a logical addition to push us over the promotion line.

CCCCCCCCCEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE YYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRR!

Thank the Lord we've finally ended the shame that inevitably comes to a club that employs THAT waste of oxygen .

I told you all he was wanky and guess what, I was right .

All of you gormless fools still kissing the arse of the ultimate inanimate object bow your heads in disgrace .

I was right you were wrong .

Maybe you'll listen to me in future cos I'm brill and you lot aren't.

I'm great .

You now know I'm great .

:)

Peace

That's a fair comment, he was bought as an insurance policy and you don't spend a lot of money on a star forward for a "just in case" scenario.

However, as others have pointed out, the length of his contract was out of kilter with the reason for buying him but this was probably just another example of United using the limited resources at their disposal not very wisely. The last JTW is another example of this and I'm sure there are many more.
The King can't be guilty of an error of judgement. So it must be the board's fault.

If it’s not already been said GLTTL.
Goes with my blessing and thanks.
Gave us an outlet and held the ball well when teams played deep against us. Turned our season round and was a key player in our promotion.

not the most gifted of players , but gave it his all.
Not many players can offer that#
Wilder brought him in to do a job ,,, he did it

thats all that mattered

weve had many come in promise much but deliver nothing
We benifitted from his sheer graft

Got us over the line in key games , will be fondly remembered by me for getting us out of that hell hole ,

Contract lengths like that are just a financial assurance to the player. It protects them if they get here and we don't want them or they can't find another club with a decent offer. It makes them more of a risk to us, sure, but it's also fairly standard. He wasn't likely to leave Bradford on a 3 month contract like we would've ideally offered.

GLTTL! He was a genuine but limited footballer who gave his all for us (and Bradford). His story is almost like a fairy tale, from humble beginnings and non league football to playing at Wembley. Lots of respect for him. He’s done it the hard way and deserves every remaining penny he can earn as a professional footballer.

Dont remember much about his playing but do remember him on the pitch at Northampton after the game and he seemed pretty chuffed that we were up. For that moment he will always be a Blade...

A sink tap? Does your house not have running water?
Or are you posh and have levers or paddles? Or is it the pump darn street? :)

Up here in Scotland lesser mortals wash in the the local burn - not advisable in Kilmarnock as they probably use it as a toilet further upstream.

Wilder pointedly said "we aren't in the market for million pound players" when Hanson came in.We were being linked to more expensive young players at the time; Omar Bogle being one.If you've only got a couple of hundred grand, what do you expect? GLTTL!

Not as limited as most make him out to be.

I think people are forgetting just how many goals he scored for Bradford.
