Will VAR help the Blades?

Peschisolido offside goal against Palace in league cup qtr final?

Whoops, we're only interested in the ones we benefit from

Tony Brown? Offside goal for WBA at Leeds

VAR would have completely ruined that day too

Swings and roundabouts, it's all part of the fun.

Also, they've had video refs in Rugby League for ages and they still get decisions wrong but what they always do is review every game for disciplinary offences that the ref may have missed.

Imagine that in football. Retrospective cards all over the shop.

Would soon stop the cheats if done properly and not half heartedly as it is at the moment.

Things i’d do to improve it.

The only people who can request a VAR review from the Ref is the VAR team, eg the players cannot hound a ref as it’s not up to the ref to make that choice.

The VAR review is from a lightweight pair of video goggles that the ref carries around. That saves time on them running to the side of the pitch. Automatic bookings for anyone that comes within 5 ft of a ref (the ref gets geofenced and who to book gets relayed to ref after they signal the end of the review), or otherwise tries to distract the ref while they are conducting the review.

Colin Suggett wasn't interfering with play!
Was it Clough or Shankly that said "if a player isn't interfering with play then he shouldn't be on the pitch"?

I'm not arguing but I don't ever remember Tinkler being exonerated in the media.

It's one of my great memories, don't spoil it for me ;)

This is exactly what's needed and would cut out most of the cheating almost overnight.

Copy cricket DRS and it becomes simpler, give each captain 3 reviews and take it out of the hands of the ref and panel. For example Joe Root wants to review an LBW decision saying he's not out. It's then quite simple, was there enough evidence to change the umpires decision? If the ball pitched wide but was clipping the stumps the benefit goes with the umpire, if he got an inside edge the decision is over turned. Very simple system if used correctly.

This can't work, though. Cricket has a natural break, football flows. When can the captain ask for a review? It's possible that play can go on for five minutes or more without a natural break in play. Plus in football the captain can be a long way from the action, which means you have to allow enough time at each break of play for the captain to have a quick consultation with his players and decide to review or not before running back to his position. The quickly taken throw / free kick will be a thing of the past.

A real positive of VAR is that it’s a safety net for the refs
And should lessen intimidation and complaints from players on the pitch
And fans in the stand who are often convinced that a ref is hopeless or bias against their team.

The thing to realise is that some decisions are very 50/50 and even with VAR they’ll remain 50/50.
If a 50/50 decision goes against your team then you can bet some fans won’t be happy.

I suppose at least it prevents big mistakes so will be a good thing as long as you accept it’s not perfect.

Germany can have no complaints about the var decisions today, but it’s mystifying why the second one went for review, clearly miles on side

The worst penalty decision (outside of Gordon Watson's swandive against Leeds for Wednesday) I've ever seen was the one given against Tom Cowan for a diving header clearance against West Ham in the dying minutes.

Yeah, noticed the birds (some nice ones too!) watching the screen and faking their interest in football. "Can I go t'world cup dear?". "Aye but only if I come wi yer". Joking aside, at the end of the Argie game yesterday, the girls were jumping up and down cheering and the men were fucking crying. Wtf?

Cheering as they could go home. They had a lot of ironing to do.
