Bramall Lane and the 2030 World Cup

I think there's some rule that no city can have more than 2 host stadiums so that probably rules out number 3. Also the Kingpower is a boring shitty bowl and it's too small. I don't like the multi host format either, England could easily host it by ourselves without the Scots and Welsh trying to get involved just so that they can qualify for once. So they can fuck right off.

I don’t disagree re the King Power being shite but I think given the fact it’s an hour away from London by rail, close to the M1 and the most modern ground in the East Mids region might swing it for them.

We all know Wendy always cash in with free upgrades for these type of competitions...I can see them seizing the opportunity of bagging a free ground on the back of this, let along an upgrade...it will only take a pie in the sky plan plucked out of thin air and the powers that be will give it the nod.
We'll probably put in a proper, watertight, self financing plan that won't even get a look in,and straight into the garbage bin.

The more I think about it, the only way I could see it coming to Sheffield would be if either United or Wednesday move to a new stadium.

There would be no chance of getting any government money to fund a new stadium because there are other stadiums already built and new stadiums that only require an expansion e.g. Leicester, Southampton, Derby, Swansea, Hull and MK.

I can’t see us ever moving and it doesn’t make sense for Wednesday to move either, so forget about a World Cup in Sheffield.

There is little prestige for an individual club in hosting World Cup games. Let me demonstrate....
Tell me the names of any of the cities the 2018 World Cup is being held in.
Now, tell me the names of the Club Sides who play in the stadiums in those cities.
"Prestige" comes to Volgograd, who host England's game tomorrow, not FC Rotor, who play in the stadium, you've never heard of them & you won't remember them by the time you read the next post.

We've no chance. The city council is infested with pigs, and even if we were in the PL, with a 50,000 seater stadium, and they were in the conference playing in pigsborough park, they will ALWAYS get the nod. Sadly, we have to accept that the powers that be in our city hate us, and love the filth, so we'll always play second fiddle on the world stage :(

Not sure that is 100% accurate, but with Hillsborough Park right outside their ground, I can begrudgingly forsee a decent little fan park.

In all honesty, my priority would be Sheffield first, to host a game and only then would I be on the campaign trail for't Lane. If that doesn't make me a heathen, maybe it does.

Bramall Lane will be too far from the host nation. 2030 will be 100 years of the world cup so this tournament will be in South America after a free and fair bidding process.
Nah it'll be in Baghdad & Borneo & Bogota

Whereas we see pictures of other countries 'fan zones' where enthusiastic fans mingle and enjoy the match on a big screen, in England it's entirely predictable that it would turn into a mass, pissed up brawl. If we do need a fan zone for BDTBL, Devonshire Green would be ideal.

Maybe it would be better remembered by it's old name of Stalingrad.

Another question that needs answering is if the sty was chosen how many people would go?

I wouldn’t put my life in danger to be honest, rust poisoning is pretty lethal nowadays and I’m not keen on a stand falling on top of my head so I think I’ll leave it. I’ll watch it on tv and hope the gantry doesn’t collapse.

The 2030 World Cup will be in Uruguay and Argentina.

2034 will be in Australia and New Zealand

2038 is the next time it may return to Europe although it may be Africa so 2042 is possible.

Incorrect. The current rules are that the continents that have hosted the two previous world cups are barred from bidding.

They aren't 'rules' but they are established precedent. Having said that, Russia and Qatar got their WCs by greasing the right palms. Don't kid yourself that Infantino's new 'clean' FIFA will conduct an open transparent objective and independent bid process, if someone is prepared to put $20m in a few brown envelopes.

North and South America are two separate continents in football confederations.

Uruguay and Argentina will get 2030 as it’s the centenary of the first World Cup there in 1930.

i think it’s quite likely that as CrookesBlade suggests a 2030 bid will be a UK wide bid, with potentially Ireland roped in (although I would expect if that were the case they would demand more than one stadium).

It would make sense for one or two groups of the 12 to based entirely on the island of Ireland, and it with Ireland in it would make sense to go ahead with Dublin to Glasgow Road/Rail links, and potentially even a Dublin to U.K. tunnel (whether that could be completed in time is another question!)

Which is why I said current rules rather than simply rules.

It is incorrect to state as Harry's Game suggested) that the World Cup must rotate around all other confederations before that confederation can bid again (according to the precedent set for the 2026 World Cup.)

Pies and pints will be illegal. Burgers made out of crushed insects (halal, of course) will be available with your ration coupons. Football will be a non-contact sport and anyone over 40 will be classed as a pre-millenial (i.e. hooligan) and will have to report to the police before each match where they will be locked in a tram until the game is over.
Probably best if we don't get the nod.

Have you tried killing an insect in the Halal style? Let me tell you, it's not easy. You should have seen me chasing the Wasp around our kitchen with a sharp knife.

Hope fully by then Swillsborough will have been swallowed up by the Don

And boy is he hungry.

Major Hurdle for any U.K. wide bid or U.K. + Ireland would be whether FIFA would allow 4-5 teams to automatically qualify.

The minimum capacity for World Cup matches is what, 40,000? Well if that's the case then count me out. We'd have to be a well-established Premier League club to get anywhere near filling that and if we were to get relegated (which we likely would at some point) then we'd have thousands upon thousands of empty seats every week.

And for what? So we can watch Serbia vs. Australia and Iran vs. Paraguay in 2030 and it'll be 'nice'?

It'd be riveting I'm sure. But it's just not really worth it in the long term in my eyes.

The pigs only sell the sty out as it stands when we rock up or when tickets are £10 (even then it's not a given). They're welcome to a shiny handout. Who gives a shit. They won't fill it and the brilliant new plastic chairs will gather dust and wither, just like that ghastly corner of theirs.

Just double checked my post and never at any time said there is an official rotation policy.

Australasia has never hosted a World Cup yet so they are over due one and if 2030 goes to Uruguay/ Argentina then they would be favourites to host in 2034.

Schmeichel scored a goal vs them in the Champions League years ago.

Mount Pleasant Park, 5 mins from the Lane, just off London Rd, fantastic views to the south and a couple of 5 a side pitches, what's not to like?

we are not liked at FIFA ,we are in with a chance of the world cup when the star ship Enterprise makes its first voyage

how have mexico got their 3rd world cup in my lifetime

Australia and New Zealand are in different confederations since Australia moved to Asia to get easier qualification to the World Cup

I read 35k a couple of days ago but I can’t remember where now.

Football in a cricket ground. Super, smashing, great.
Yes, I did wonder about that, it's probably no worse than those old multi-purpose stadia with running tracks around the outside which were pretty much standard in Europe in the past, but I can't imagine FIFA being impressed by the idea.

I read 35k a couple of days ago but I can’t remember where now.

I thought I heard that the other day when they were discussing that ground with the Gillingham-esque stands behind each goal, but the only information I found when I searched said 40k.

If it's 35k then all we'd need to do would be do the Kop roof and add those seats at the back, which we should be doing anyway.

Never happen anyway for reasons outlined but I do wonder what the capacity for these 'fan parks' needs to be. Would the U-Mix centre five minutes walk away from the ground would suffice, I wonder? Or Millennium Park?
