Anyone interested interested in attending England v Costa Rica at Hellend Road on Thursday, to see ex Blades Harry McGuire and Kyle Walker?
I have a spare ticket for South Stand, lower tier.
I'm only wanting 20 pounds, (less than half price)

Cue load of comments, England are crap, wouldn't pay 20p, rather watch paint dry, etc etc...

Gary Cahill too. Still, not worth it :-)

I’m not watching England until sterling changes the gun to a dove.

Or a large chested woman.

no one's interested in England..
till the tournament starts, then were all fans (as long as it's an excuse to get pissed, skip work an hour early etc)
then were all better then the England manager, telling anyone exactly where fucking Southgate went wrong. Then were all FA big wigs cos he needs sacking and replacing with X, then forget it for a couple of years..... Repeat.

This raises an interesting question: do LUFC get to keep any of the gate receipts and if so how was Elland Rd chosen?

Bit unfair to other Championship clubs that their 1980 throwback stadium gets chosen...

I'll have it!

I live in Beeston so not far off :)

Im up for it :)

I'm not watching England till Sterling fucks off. He's crap and still gets inexplicably selected.

Cue a ton of perpetually offended white Grauniad readers calling me racist in 3, 2, 1...

Not going to call you racist, but I honestly don't get the hate Sterling (and Alli) get from a section of England fans. I can't help but think that half their critics (and that includes the gutter press) would be creaming themselves every week watching them if they were South American or had sexy sounding Italian surnames.

They're two of the top players in the world, playing for two of the best teams in the world, coveted by the very best teams in the world, picked and managed by two of the best managers in the world and they would demand some of the highest transfer fees seen in the history of the game if sold, but yeah, they must be shit, because The Sun/Daily Mail/Beano says so.

I'm not saying it's (entirely) race related, because there are sections of the press (the red tops, and especially The Sun) who have always taken delight from bringing down England players, managers and the fans, especially close to a tournament, regardless of skin colour. Quite why any England fan would financially contribute to that is beyond me!

Kane and vardy are only English players to have scored more in the premier league this season. Does he need more of a reason to get picked?

Read similar in the latest WSC, one of the contributors heavily suggesting that Sterling cops for stick due to racism. No he doesn't, he cops for it because his performances for England have generally been abysmal. He wasn't as bad v Nigeria but his shot when he blazed it over the bar and the yellow (the referee was spot on) for that dive sort of sums up Sterling's time with England for me. I'd start with Vardy-Kane up top v Tunisia and bin Sterling off.

And that's the key to their success. Playing with the likes of Stones, Delph, Jones etc. will sort them out. Let's see how good the latest 'Golden Generation' are when Giroud, Griezmann and Mbappe bear down on them...

I resent the suggestion that I will suddenly become interested in the English National team once the World Cup starts.

My only interest will be the hope that they are once again eliminated at the earliest possible opportunity so that we can watch some proper football undistracted by those who follow the game but biennially.

Hmmmm.

A blue wall in a nice shade of pig......

I always had my suspicions.

I hope Freud would note how the patient in his white top, symbolising purity of football philosophy, allows himself to be enveloped in the warmth of the cradling deep red seat.

The constant exposure to the blue is either aversion therapy or blue-sky Premier League thinking.

It’s still preferable to watching the latest tin-foil generation have their usual ignominious but well-deserved exit at the hands of eleven unknowns who are far better at football than our distinctly average millionaires.

I'm not sure Freud would notice the 'purity of the white shirt'. I think he'd probably suggest you want to shag your mother.

Where is your national spirit Pinchy?, by birthright you should be a proud, cap-doffing, forelock-tugging Engerlandy Engerlander.

After losing a bit of interest in the National Team since the 4-1 drubbing in 2010 by a fine German side, i feel reinvigorated by this forthcoming World Cup. I've the almost 9 year old Brownie Jnr to thank for the interest being piqued once again. He has memorised every side in the World Cup, is transfixed by football stickers, and i watched him do a World Cup Predictor last week, and he predicts an England win. Having being royally treated to watching some proper footballers playing quality tuftyball over the last couple of seasons, i think his footballing development would be well served by watching an England side performing admirably against all odds. In fact he is even off to Elland Road tomorrow night to watch Engerland v Costa Rica, although it is his mother who is taking him, because I'm refusing to break my vow not to set foot in Elland Road unless it is on Sheffield United business.

My prediction, England to go out in the semi-finals, Jamie Vardy to finish amongst the leading scorers, and Pinchy to wear Red and White facepaint on the 11th July.....

Oh, I’m all for the kids being enthusiastic about England. There was no bigger lion than me in my youth. I cried for hours when we lost to West Germany in 1970. We had a team in those days. Then my mum reminded me I was half Irish which helped, but not much. The way we matched the finest football team the world has ever seen in the group games, beaten only by genius in a titanic struggle, deserved better than defeat occasioned by Banks’ illness and Charlton’s half-time departure. It was a better or at least as good a team as the ‘66 Champions.

As I’ve grown older I’ve realised it will never happen again. Long gone are the days when we produced players equal to or better than the Latin, Franco and Germanic teams. One glance at the Premier League squads confirms that unassailable proposition.

I’m rather weary of the familiar biennial charade whereby the press and tv try to whip the nation into patriotic fervour by suggesting we have the remotest chance of winning the tournament. Shirts go on; car flags are proudly flown. We then get a football lesson from some little-known nation, represented by names both unpronounceable and unknown, but who embarrass our unimaginative plodders with their technique, pace and creativity.

There are one or two classy players in the current paper generation but they are hugely outweighed by mediocrities who are utterly deluded if they have any pretentions to be better than even half of the other nations on show. As for the usual elite nations; not within a country mile, I’m afraid.

I salute your lad’s passion. I hope it subsists beyond the first couple of weeks, whether England are still there or not. I fear his prediction is a triumph of hope over experience. We shall see...

I always want England to do well, however I prefer watching some of the better teams and would like to see the Germans and Argentinians in the final as they are good teams.

I don’t “support” England in the same way as I do the Blades as I have no attachment to them on an emotional level. There are actually a lot of elements of the FA and England national team that embarrass me. That said I don’t want them to fail. I just won’t blindly back them and pretend that I don’t think 95% of the squad are cunts.
