Unpopular opinion. I think he’s better than The Stearmonator.

I gave you a like just to disprove it’s an unpopular opinion.

I disagree vehemently though.

I though Stearman added nothing at first and was not a good fit for us. I think he improved no end later and was a very good player for us. I still don’t think he’s a first choice centre half though.

We need at least one, if not two championship level CB’s for next season, if we are still operating three at the back. Whether the budget allows permanents or only loans, we shall see. If we think that we can get away with Leonard there, we’ll be dry bummed.

I’m not directly comparing Carter-Vickers and Stearman as it’s not easy to do due to the many factors involved. However, I was just looking at how we performed with them in the team and interestingly after Stearman’s first 7 games we had lost 5, drawn 1, won 1. After Carter-Vickers’ first 7 games we had gone top of the league.

Yep agree totally. I think a big brute of a centre half, in the Chris Morgan mold, is exactly what we need. I think it works best when you have two centre halves, one of whom is the first ball winner, like Morgan was, and one who goes for the second ball and sweeps up. The second centre half ideally will have height and pace. I think the pairing of Morgan and Killgallon was good for this very reason.

Stearman is a classy footballer, I'd probably keep him for the number 2 centre half role, but not as the primary centre half. He's also getting on a bit now and he's not as good as he was.

I get what you’re saying... however saying we won more games when CCV played (or had a higher win ratio) than when Stears played isn’t really using stats to say what you want. Granted there have been other factors but it’s a pretty recognised standard stat... if true (I’ve never checked - I presume it to be true tho).

Here's an unpopular opinion for some...Morgan wasn't actually a big brute of a centre half ! He was hard alright but not thst physically imposing and when he played against proper brutes like Dariis Henderson he got pushed around....a lot.

We could do much worse. And I'd definitely keep monitoring his situation regarding availability for permanent transfer. That would be something worth pursuing.

He'll be a better player next season too, the loans with us and Ipswich will have developed him a lot.

CCV is arguably at peak age (27) these days... Could he do it in the Prem or is he essentially a Championship level defender? I guess I'm asking the Celtic watchers on the forum.

I believe they love him up there. He'd probably do a job in a settled and established Premier League team. I'd not sure he would for us, but he'd cost far more than we should be paying. He's tied down until the end of the decade at Celtic, they won't want to sell and he'd be an idiot to want to come.
