This is the problem, the market is ridiculous and seems to get worse each season. Marriott quoted as £5M and the likes of Madine went for more than that. I think we might go that high, albeit undisclosed but I think Tufty may go for Prem loans, which of course have fees and potentially high wages, rather than paying over the odds for a 'known' bigger name player.

The main problem he has is that whilst it's been relatively easy picking the right type of player thus far, as we move up the scale and try and get the more expensive 'bigger' names, this becomes harder and as others have said, has the danger of upsetting the squad as a whole.

Would we want a John Terry for example ?

Scoring wasn't an issue. Holding on to leads was. As was clean sheets. Look at our goal difference...

We need at least x2 CBs before we even think about a striker....

Depends on this year's budget. Let's say come August we had a first team squad of 25 players - all on the same salary of £15,000 per week. That's £19.5m for the year. We may need a budget of £30m to buy several players at multi-million pound prices

Striker: £5m
Gk: £2.5m
LWB: £2.5m
CB: Loan
Striker: Loan

I doubt we have £30m but £20m would be close to the mark so it's unlikely but then again who knows that the owners wouldn't stump up more if asked?

Any budget probably would include the Jan Window spending as well - unless new investors are here and investment is provided for the final push?

Did anybody else bother to watch the video in that article? Of the last 7 league 1 top scorers only 2 have made any impact at Championship, Sharp who had already done it at that level (question was could he still do it?) And Rhodes. I know this doesn't mean players can't make the step up but the chances are they won't. Given that nugget of information I wouldn't blow more than a million (up front) on a risk like that. And maybe, just maybe the step up from league 1 to Championship is a bigger one than we gave it credit for.

Yes I'm being optimistic, but quality signing you have got to be looking at 2 plus million a pop these days. We need about 4 maybe more ,good signing that can come in and make a difference. So your looking at 10 plus million . I think 10 to 15 is the budget. I'm hoping so anyhow . If it's any less then the owners really do need to find another expensive hobbie.

Whilst I have said I think the owners may have thrown £5m each to give CW a decent kitty, that would also include increases in the wage bill. At a complete guess, I would assume if CW has £10m to spend , that will include wages for these player signings

But we've off loaded Donaldson and Wilson, Carruthers will be gone and there's another 6 or so on the list. So that will clear some of the current wage bill so that offsets some of the new salaries

I agree, but as we don't know the numbers and Chris is trying to take us to the next level, higher wages for better players could still be significant and consequently make a fair old dent in the transfer budget agreed

Another case of adding 2+2 and getting 979.
Peterborough have been in talks with us but not about the striker.
It was about taking our players on loan or buying some of our surplus.

Yep. Morgan's successor has been a priority for the past 10 years and still is. Once we've done that he needs a partner (JOC will do) and a full back either side of them.

Extremely difficult to tell how good he is from that. A lot of goals but only looks as good as our Billy. Suppose there's room for improvement at his age.

Anybody know how good he really is? Would he be worth the money if indeed we had it?

Looking at that I can't see why we would spend 5 mil when we have billy who scores better goals, but billy is getting older now so how long can we realistically keep him? We would essentially be buying potential as he is so young and already good.

Doesn't look like what we need to me though, we need someone strong with pace IMO, rather than a goal poacher.

Very good point. I'm still none the wiser as to whether it's shape or personnel that are the issue. Instinct tells me personnel, but you might be right.

As for Blackman, it's the thought of Flippy Flappy Moore being our Number 1 that truly makes me shudder.
