Just had a quick look about Jack Payne - I didn't know there were two! I thought he was the one who signed for Peterborough, also a central midfielder. The Southend version's only played for Southend, and is only 21.

He's out of contract this summer isn't he? If so then we should be looking to do something. I know he's small but unlike the other small players we've signed he appears to have a lot of ability, and scores goals.

Doubt we'll go for him though, Adkins seems to want to prioritise size quite a lot so instead we'll probably look to pay a fee for someone big who can't play football.

I'm sure he was. Maybe it's just his agent talking him up to get a better deal. But having seen him play I'd be surprised if big clubs weren't interested.

Yeah he seems to have done well in both games against us. Not seen him on any other occasions though I must admit.

If take him as a free. Offers something different, he'll run with the ball at defenders. He had a great game against us at Oakwell (saying that, they all did)

Not the player of old, not for me and suspect not for CW. We need to move up a level. CW said as much. Don't see where he does that for us.

Not for me. He's 30 now and we already have Brookes Duffy and Holmes for one spot, unless we change formation. He's very much hot and cold, bit like David Cotterill.

I agree, very impressive performances against Rotherham. Adam Hammil has lost it, doesn't have much pace and was in and out of the Barnsley team all season.

I think he might actually be a decent acquisition if money is going to be limited.

But unless we shift Holmes and Carruthers it really would be pointless. He's taller, stronger and quicker than Holmes but maybe not as technically efficient. Unlike Holmes though he has proven he can cut it at this level.

An excellent player a few years ago but a firm no at this time.

He would not improve the squad. We already have an option to play wide left in Holmes should CW feel the need to change the formation during games.

Guess that Johnson is the incoming winger, although I've always liked Hammill and very surprised he's not currently with a club.
