Retained/Transfer List

Coutts was on the list so the door is not shut for anyone

Yes, though as I pointed out a year ago when Done, Hussey and Wilson were listed and the same point was made then, he did that coming into a club where he’d spent virtually no time with the players and was relying largely on what was the general opinion at the time.

Those players now available for transfer are players Wilder has seen regularly for a while now, and has first-hand knowledge for how they perform in training and the first team. None made available last summer were kept, and I expect the same come the end of the window (if Wilder remains).

Ched Evans just needs a pre-season, then he'll be no1 striker.

Sign Owen Wilson perm, showed plenty during his loan spell to show he deserves a full time contract.

Should definitely keep Lavery, need cover at left back.

George Long will be called up for England this summer, worth keeping for the cash.

I think Holmes is one of those players that Wilder said isn't doing enough to get back in the team and that he would "sort it out"

I can't really think of who else he's referring to. I don't think Leonard is the other person as he's generally the one that Wilder brings on in matches.

I personally think Holmes believes he's made it to the Championship now, can't really get to premier league and just isn't really pushing for that place anymore when he can just pick up a better wage by sitting on the bench

Change our set piece tactics and get Reed going up for corners too

The only surprises for me on the list being Thomas and Heneghan being made available, that more aren't out of contract and therefore released (Reed, Wright, Long, Hanson) and that Lafferty hasn't been made available as well.

Those apart, I think it all makes sense and provides the opportunity for CW & co to continue to improve the quality of the squad overall.

I agree with the decision to keep Ched to see if he can overcome his injury problems and, if so, whether he can push for a place in the team.

I think id I'd had as many pre seasons as Ched I'd be ready ;)

To be fair, he’s behind by about two and a half pre-seasons!

I agree. Whatever the rights and wrongs about what he did (I've had my say ages ago and will leave it at that) the fact is that he's missed an important part of his career. It's beginning to look like we will never see the player he could have been. A shame, for us and him.

Sounds like no pres-season required to catch up on the social front :D

Heneghan is a weird one. He's 24 years old - does he really need a loan? If he's not good enough to be competing for a first team place at that age (in a Championship team that plays 3 CBs in every game) is he ever going to be?

IMO, he's the one on that list with the most future here...

I wonder if Holmes was pursued and bought because of the illness Brooks was suffering with. As has been said elsewhere that can debilitate people for months sometimes so there was a chance he wouldn’t have got back before the end of the season and Holmes was bought in case. As it happened Brooks was back and Holmes was therefore required less. Just a thought

This, for me, is where the U23s come in. If (and I appreciate it's a big if) Semple, Graham, Norrington-Davies and Mallon are considered decent prospects should they not be utilised as cover rather than signing more established but arguably lower potential players?
You could easily sign 4/5 strong regular first team players and still utilise the 23s into the first team squad.
They would remain playing for the 23s but would train each day around the first team.

Heneghan played 6 games last season. 5 23s and 1 first team. It’s not enough for a 24 year old.

Semple, Smith, Gilmour, Norrington, Slater, Graham could all play 40 23s games and 2/3 league cup games. At 18/ 19 years old that is a productive season.

Lafferty could still leave.

If (hopefully when) we sign a new LWB then he'll probably be allowed to move on.

But he's one Wilder will be happy enough to keep in the squad regardless, if he's happy to stay. He's a versatile, solid squad player.

It would be a bit hasty to transfer list him at this stage.

I for one would keep him regardless. Not as a first choice but he’s slotted in at left side centre half and covers LWB. I do believe we will sign another LWB. But he fills in a few gaps.

I would hold on to Lafferty, he offers as much as Stevens and whips a cross in faster

Retained lists doesn't really mean anything, anyone except Donaldson and Hussey could stay, anyone not on it could leave.

I hope we bring in another left back and let Lafferty go, not because of Lafferty himself, but because Wilder refused to use him at wing back no matter how badly Stevens was playing.
