Adrian Heath - Thoughts?

Fucking shocking manager ! Worst side i saw wearing a Utd shirt and that includes Martin Peters team .... other than that I think he's great

Whilst I think Heath was a poor manager, particularly tactically, he did have previous managerial experience. He was manager at Burnley towards the end of 1995-6 and all of 1996-7.

Heath didn't get the job because of his name. He got the job because he knew Mike McDonald and would do as he was told.

I agree with your wider point. Rookie managers are a bad idea as a rule.

Permanent United managers with no previous managerial experience:

Joe Mercer
Martin Peters
Billy McEwan
Nigel Spackman
Steve Bruce
Gary Speed
David Weir

Mercer eventually got the hang of it after a bad start at United. Bruce gets mixed reviews but knows what he's doing. The others...not so good.

Spackman did well until the team was sold from under him.

A stand out memory for me was releasing Tri Dellas saying "I've seen how many games he played last season and I don't think he'll be missed".

Dellas went on to play for Roma and was a key player as Greece won the European Championship in 2004.

Wouldn't really call him a cunt though, just out of his depth like Weir.

I remember that a little differently. Have a distinct memory while Dellas was in the not-released-not-renewed-contract-limbo that happened as soon as Bruce left, and it was the Radio Sheffield interviewer that raised it, Heath wasn't aware of him, then the interviewer described his attributes, then Heath said "he sounds exactly like the sort of player I'd be looking to keep" – the next thing we hear, Dellas had left.

He was a shite manager, but he's ahead of Weir in my books just on the basis of winning that cracker of a game against Forest where David Platt got a late red card. Lovely scenes.

Never liked him as a player when he was at Everton, looked like a annoying twat. This was proved when he played against us for Burnley in the cup. Didn't Littlejohn punch him in the face and they both get sent off?

As 'Inchy' is boss of my soon to be team, what are people's thoughts on him as a United manager? I remember him being shit, but I also remember the club being a total mess at the time as well.

Came on this thread earlier and have just re-visited again and....

.....no I still don't want to think about Heath.

Minnesota United are bottom of the league, and haven't scored in almost 5 hours.

My thoughts of our Adrian Heath was he was a cocky, dirty twat. Whoever thought he was a manager worthy of our club wants knee capping. Iv'e shit and flushed more integrity than Heath.

My memory may fail me, but from the Deane Fjortoft fiasco right through to THE Port Vale game the club were in a mess, with ownership issues management (Bruce ) being lied to culminating in appointing Heath.

I can't blame Heath he was appointed as a yes man.

Didn't Warnock taking over coincide with Mcabe taking stewardship in what was lauded as a brand new era?

I watched most of the Minnesota United v NY Red Bulls match on Sky last night.
Minnesota looked really really poor losing 0-3.
You would imagine that Inchy is facing the sack.

My only memory of him is his last game in charge. Lost 3-1 (or was it 3-0) at home to Port Vale in front of 9,000 crowd. Real low point for club. At least he had decency to resign. Warnock took over and that was the start of a golden era.
So golden that it took him 7 years to gain promotion.

That Port Vale game was the pits! if I remember, a young Anthony Gardner scored their third.... time flies!!

I remember that we were given tickets to the "players lounge" after the game, my old man took me in there and not a single blade turned up, all the vale players came in though. As we were walking down the stairs to leave, someone was interviewing Heath for the radio on the stairway just as he'd resigned, me and pops were jumping around on the stairs! I was 11 at the time.

(I think this was on the same night..)As we walked up the car park, Kammy, a then rookie sky sports pundit was interviewing people for sky and he was talking to my dad, when someone shouted "eyup kammy, what have you ever fucking done" to which he replied "more than you, you wanker" needless to say my dad's interview never made it to sky sports!

Ah Port Vale. What a terrible game, only saved by the news he'd gone on the way home.

Thoughts on Adrian Heath? Just the one, he's a Cunt.

Sorry I'm a bit on the fence ;)

My recollection was that he was a decent bloke who was woefully inadequate as a football manager. Couldn’t motivate the team and generally didn’t have a clue what he was doing. More suited to being a coach than being the main man.

Fair enough, mine is coloured somewhat by him as a player too. Can't recall specifics, more of a gut feeling.

I always thought we finished lower.... we'd have been in deep shit if we hadn't had such a good December and January.

As a couple of side notes;
1. Jonathan Hunt is easily in the top 5 worst United players that I've seen.
2. The game in march vs Stockport is the worst United game I've seen, even Woodhouse's goal was a scuff off his shin near the end!
