My name is Chris Wilder.

I'm the manager of a club who have finished 10th. In the Championship and who play in one of England's most beautiful cities in front of passionate, knowledgable and loyal fans .

However , because I'm ambishus , I want to go to manage a team in the pub league in a shithole where they still throw rocks at the moon , which has been in turmoil for the last 60 years and where the fans have often been known to leave at half time .

My name is John Fleck / Paul Coutts / David Brooks etc. and I too want to make this career enhancing move.

It all makes sense to me .

I would take this post with more than a pinch of salt were it not for your deliberate spelling of the word ambitious. Just go & drown yourself you are definitely not a true Blade writing this utter tripe !

If Paul Coutts wants to trot off to any other club let him. Apart from this season before he got injured he was a total waste of space. I saw TC score 16 goals from midfield so all of our current midfield players .... goals wise ...are a vast disappointment to me. Midfielders should be chipping in with loads of goals as they do in the Prem & other Champ teams. Good job Leon scored shed loads up to Jan or we would have her up shit creek without a paddle ! Thank you Leon !

I will go out on a limb here and say that anyone leaving the Lane to go to Sunderland is bottling it (and getting well paid to do so, I may add).
CW can no doubt get the Mackams promoted, by doing so, its also a very good way of not having to prove he can do it in the Championship.

Bitter and twisted springs to mind ,with a hint of pork , trot off you seem to be wanting to cause trouble .

Well you’re a ray of sunshine aren’t you?
Remember despite our ‘vastly disappointing’ contribution from the midfield we still finished in the top 10 which is significantly better than either Barnsley club managed this year.

But would he not then have a go in the Championship with them ?

It all comes down to what the clubs that approach him offer him, not necessarily in terms of personal salary, but in terms of where they want to be and how they intend to get there. He’ll not leave for a £2m bigger budget, but if a £30/£40m budget is dangled at him, that’s not bottling in irrespective of the division, that’s taking on a challenge.

Particularly when he's feeling insecure with us. KM will have been candid about the likely outcome of the negotiations and Wilder knows he will be vulnerable.

Perfect Storm for us Blades.

Well yes, just another thing for him to consider. Let’s be honest, even if there wasn’t an ownership struggle and he was just told “same again Chris” he’d be off in a shot if he wasn’t a die hard Blade.

If Wilder goes to Sunderland and gets them promoted with £40m to spend that will hardly be classed as an achievement. On the other hand if he doesn't get them up with that budget then he (and probably Sunderland) will be finished. I don't see what he's got to gain apart from his bank balance and I wouldn't hold that against him in the slightest if he just came out and said so.

The gamble here is only one season, and one season on a higher wage & larger budget. Would a manager back himself on getting promotion from L1 at the 1st attempt? During the same time, knowing what he knows, does he believe that we will get promoted from the Champ? If he feels the answer to the 1st question is 'yes' and the 2nd is 'no', then it's is a sensible move, because once Sunderland & ourselves are in the same division, they're the bigger club. The same goes for any player.

I assumed the spelling was the pinch of salt required !

As to your final point , you could be right although I have been working very hard at it for over 70 years.

All a bit weird wicked witch of the west stuff if you ask me.

Nah, you're just a pig, that's the stock response if you dare to go against the flow. I've been supporting the Blades for not quite as long as you (but long enough) and view the current situation with a sigh and roll of the eyes, that's all. Compared to some of the disasters we've been involved in this current episode comes nowhere near. If Wilder thought he was going to come in and revolutionise the way SUFC has been run since their creation, then spits his dummy out because he hasn't, then frankly he's deluded. Then to drop down a league just to prove a point brings you to question his sanity. This is all assuming he's going, which isn't yet a certainty, but some of our members do need a history lesson at times.

The 30/40 mill was just a general quote any club may offer him. In terms of Sunderland, they may say £5/6m this year then £25m when back in the Championship, which gives him a direction the club wants to go. There’s no guarantees I agree, but if he doesn’t see much by way of improvement here, then it’s not as dafter move as is being made out.

I’m not sure personal cash would be the driving force, he’ll be on £10k+ a week for as long as he can be arsed to be a manager and he’ll probably already be a millionaire. He doesn’t strike me as personally greedy but he’s definitely very career driven

I would have let post #2 go if it were not for post #3 so here goes. Your post should read "deliberate misspelling of the word ambition". Not sure of the educational standards in Wadsley Bridge these days but they have gone down since the pig farm was turned into a football ground. (I use the term "football ground" loosely.)

Bread today, jam tomorrow. That's what he was offered at the Lane, I don't think he'll be daft enough to fall for that twice!!

Anyway, as we've seen £5-6m gets you nowt these days and certainly wouldn't guarantee you promotion from L1. As I said earlier, that being the case both he and Sunderland would be fucked.

I know he's be heavily linked with Sunderland, but to quote the title of the thread would he not be looking at the likes West Brom, and Stoke who are just dropping out the premiershit? Maybe add someone like Derby to that if they don't get promotion and sack Rowett? The same with Villa if they sack Bruce?

Sunderland imo is a poisoned chalice, look at the massive earners who he'd have to get off the books. The likes of Rodwell who hasn't kicked a ball all season sat in the reserves collecting the best part of £80,000 per week. There is still a lot of players in that squad who will be taking home a considerable wage packet and not willing to come to a 'mutual agreement' in terms of pay off, or reduction in pay and will want to sit and collect their wages.
