Just thinking about many of Roygbiv 's "Views from" and many of the opposition fans have stated that they "never liked" us, "always preferred Wednesday" etc. etc.

This got me thinking, are we generally viewed as the Trampy, Violent team in Sheffield? Are we to Sheffield what Port Vale are to Stoke?

I know many slag the pigs off for being up their own arses, but that feeling is usually from the other local teams who understand the area.

We are viewed as the only team actually in Sheffield...

One of the byproducts of a football forum is that a 'few' comments can suddenly turn into a general observation that's held by hundreds of posters.

Whether we like or want it, we get dragged far too easily into the parochial nonsense about who is this, that, or whatever, so there's little point in trying to persuade others that these views don't matter.

If it helps, any club that can turn it's back and bounce up and down must surely deserve the title of 'regional cretins', or am I missing the point about what really matters?

Some do, some say the complete opposite. And that's only the opinions of two or three people on a single forum at one time.

The 'View from...' is a good way of gauging what people think about the game in hand. I wouldn't use it as something to measure what other clubs' fans think about our club in general. From a purely scientific point of view, it's nowhere near a big enough sample.

And if everyone does hate us then fuck 'em, the wankers.

As Roygbiv will probably testify. There is normally one of our illustrious neighbours who logs in to these forums as a local fan and posts the same drivel each time. 'always preferred Wednesday, bigger club, blah, blah, oink, oink.'

Want to know a real difference between us and them? It's important to them to have 'football friends' and the higher up the better. Don't think we're that bothered.

Much better to be unfashionable and revelling in the hate than to be constantly begging other fans' approval and recognition like the undignified S6 filth.

We welcome people from all over the place into the fold, I see it all the time. Anybody else isn't worth the steam off my piss quite frankly.

I don't even like half of our own fans, I'm sure as hell not going to give a fuck about outsiders.

I tend to think that the ignorance (and be in no doubt thats exactly what it is) of some outsiders is fuelled by the Warnock era (lets face it, Neil loves a wind up) and, even though we were fully justified, the Tevez thing.

Anyone who would think we were the Port Vale to Wednesday's Stoke, would be very wrong. We're the City team, not someone stuck on the outskirts with a hulking rust strewn wreck of a stadium. We have a proud history and tradition. Yes, we also have a history of boardroom fuck ups, and another one is potentially on the horizon.

But still we come back for more, this is our club.

So, fuck what outsiders think they know. What we know is all that matters.

In the day of twitter im really sick of all the pandering that fans do to eachother, the other day for example, a wolves fan mocking the pigs for a poor following and saying that there is only one team in sheffield.

Im sorry but this "give me a like or RT" noncesence gets on my nerves. Even if its winding the pigs up.

The "classy" statements do my head in also. Some of my mates are blades and some are pigs .none of us are classy by any means.

Who gives a fuck what other teams think. I generally have a deep anger/hatrered towards the away following as soon as the whistle is blown for kick-off.

Fuck em all.

Stoke are hardly the Queen's favourite team and we've had plenty of run ins with their pirates.

Quite why anyone should five a toss what some spotty 14 year olds stick on the internet, is anyone's guess.

No, were viewed as the team from Sheffield, seeing as were the only team from Sheffield, our South Barnsley neighbours are quite obviously from Barnsley!

From talking to people across the country over the years, (generally the older ones 40+ now) opinions seems to be The Grunters are seen as slightly the bigger team but we are "cooler", or perhaps "stylish" is a better term.

Yep, that's a big difference.

They're embarrassingly desperate for approval, recognition and 'football fwends'. In comparison, we don't give a fuck. Although too many of our fans still care more than they should.

Being widely hated by other clubs is preferable to indifference all day long. I don't give a fuck what anyone thinks of us. In fact I wish we were more disliked. It at least suggests some sort of identity and significance.

Stoke are hardly trendy and fashionable. Their fans are and always were inhospitable as a rule.

I think we’re an inner city club with a bit of anti-establishment swagger. Probably more Birmingham City or Everton rather than Villa or Liverpool in many people’s eyes but truth be told I’m not arsed all that much what people think. Much prefer being of genuine character than the anodyne, bland, keeping up with the Jones, monocultural twats like Wendy. That superfan of theirs is the epitome of pig; fat, poorly dressed, humourless, not from Sheffield, with an inflated view of his self importance. The fact that he is an iconic fan for them speaks volumes.

In summary - Generally I prefer it if most hate us.

Viewed? We ARE the only team in Sheffield, they seriously need to drop the Sheffield name and go back to “The wednes*ay”

They were founded before us and played at Bramall Lane before we did and as far as Bert is aware they only played outside the city boundary for one year, which was 1899.

Generally the difference between PV and Stoke is that the Vale fans to a man are scruffy bastards while the Stokies still tend to dress like Noddy Holder around 1974. Instead of the Five Towns it should be called the five shithouses.
