Stearman

I've just gone and watched it a few times, I'm struggling to see any kind of deflection. Perhaps there was one but if there was it can only be described as slight and being honest Blackman should have done a lot better with that effort. Moore would have been crucified on here by many if he'd done the same.

Looks like it hit Flecky on the back. I've seen it from a different camera angle to the one on Sky, not sure where though.

I'll have to take your word for it on the deflection, still think he should have dealt with it though.

I think the bloke that shouts 'three pound yer match programme!' while walking around the Laver needs a song. It's fascinating that he shouts it very loudly but it doesn't sound aggressive at all. It's a real skill and I'd get Wilder to hire him to shout instructions at the players across the pitch on a busy match while simultaneously soothing them.

Not disputing he's a good defender but that doesn't mean he suits being in the middle of a 3. You need a talker, someone who can tell the others where to be at any given moment, when to go when to sit. If we had some sort of machine to blend 2 players into 1 we could put him and Jake Wright in it and have the answer to our problem but we haven't.

I honestly don't think Stearman is up to that task. In a 2 I think he might be very good.

For me a centre half is as key as anything else this summer. I don't think Wolves will spend enough to see Coady surplus to requirements unfortunately.

If Coady was available I don't think he'd go for less than 4m mate. I doubt we're in that bracket yet but I hope we will break the million pound bracket for one signing this season. That's not asking much in today's football is it!

I think Stearman's being a great signing to be fair. I do think another centre half is needed though, and definitely a talker/organiser.

I’d sell him, Him and Bash are the weak links at the back.

He's got one. A few on the Kop on Saturday were chanting it.

There's only one Richard Stearman, one Richard Stearman, he used to be shite, not like Jake Wright....walking in a Stearman wonderland.

Thinking about how quite a lot of our best players have songs/chants Leon, Fleck, Duffy etc why doesn't Stearman who was arguably our signing of the season (Blackman close second) have one have we not thought of one for him or is there one that nobody wants to sing
It dunt rhyme we much. That’s the problem.

You could have beer-men or queer men but that’s about it really.

Top three signings for this season 1) Baldock, 2) Blackman 3) Stearman.

Stearman's been ok but if we want to kick on next season we need better in that key position of middle in the three centre halves, another Morgan, Holdsworth or Stancliffe would do, preferably someone who is aggressive, good in the air and an organiser.

It's worrying that this team is starting to pick up some of the traits of the Clough era, lacking a bit physically, a bit too nice, not enough height, conceding sloppy goals, never look like scoring from corners.

I’m not saying we don’t have to improve on any of those two but Basham has been one of, if not thee most consistent performers at the back all season and I’ve shown in the past not to be his biggest fan where footballing ability is concerned but he deserves huge credit this season.

I’d love to see the stats for goals coming down JOC/Stevens side of the backline and Basham/Baldocks side of the backline. My initial thoughts are that considerably more goals come down our left hand side which further enhances Bashams’ defensive capabilities that opposition players don’t target his side more. He’s played well most of the season but since his child was born he’s been consistently very good.
