C&Ped:

The Blades will find out their first round Carling Cup opponents at 9.30am next Tuesday (16th June).

All Football League clubs enter at the first round stage with the exception of Newcastle United and Middlesbrough, who have been given byes based on the number of teams England have in next season's Europa League.

The draw will again be split into Northern and Southern sections - each broken down into Seeds and Non-Seeds.

The seeding is based on last season's final league placings and seeded teams will be drawn against non-seeded clubs in their respective Northern or Southern section.

That rules out the possibility of meeting local Championship rivals Sheffield Wednesday, Barnsley and Doncaster, although Rotherham United, Bradford City and Chesterfield are all possible opponents.

First round ties will take place the week commencing 10th August, just a few days after the first league match of the new campaign.

The Coca-Cola Championship fixture list for 2009/10 will follow the next day (Wednesday 17th June) at 10am on sufc.co.uk

I don't mind who we get as long as it's someone I've not got in before :)

Exactly :D

Accrington Stanley, Bradford, Carlisle, Darlington, Hartlepool, Morcambe, Port Vale, Rochdale or even Rotherham away please.

Please not Rotherham, I've seen us play at the Don Valley before (we played Sheffield FC there years ago), it's the worst place in the world for football. I wouldn't return if it was free! No matter where you sit you're about a mile from the pitch and due to there being no stands/roof there is no atmosphere.

I actually pity Rotherham for having to play there.

sufclucy's first ever match was at Don Valley. She was either 3 or 4, and it was a Tuesday night reserve match against Wolves on Bonfire Night. I only took her along to see if she'd last out 90 minutes, and she did, and has barely missed a home match since :D We won 2-0, by the way

The view is terrible though.

Whoever we get, if it's an away match then I won't be going. Away travel on a school night is out of the question!

Rotherham away is good for me. Never seen a footie match at don valley so... OR one last crack at saltergate before they move. Sod going any further than that its the first round of the coca cola cup for god sake or whatever they call it these days.

I'd be happy with any game to be honest as i can make any home game, and the away games are not that far away with prehaps the exception of Carlisle and i'd be able to drive there.

I'm guessing that we will get Hartlepool this time

That is fatherhood genius. :D

Once I get in on that act I'm using you as a blueprint pal. :)

why is it that the thought of a night game against port vale brings me out in a cold sweat and keep getting pictures of the useless Adrian Heath in my head!!!:loopy:

My thoughts exactly..... also thoughts that we may have a lower attendance than the said dreaded night.

We played them last year [/QUOTE]

Don't want to tempt fate - but I remember it as a routine win. Didn't they equalise to make it one all before we scored a couple more? Remember it mostly cos we had to sit in the South Stand as there weren't enough of us to open the Kop as well.

Last year was pretty routine, the game the other guy was referring to was the infamous defeat in 1997.

Everyone was on the South Stand and John Street, but I can't remember the last time the Kop was open for a League Cup 1st round match to be honest.

I'm pretty certain that the Kop wasn't used for the match v Shrewsbury in 1999, so I reckon the answer might be Darlington in 1998 (though I'm not sure), or more likely Wrexham in 1997.
