We just need to keep getting the recruitment right. Pick up the next Flecks and JOCs. There’ll be ones which don’t come off, but I have a huge amount of faith in our scouting network.

I have come away so many times this season saying "We are so close to being a top side" then we randomly put in these ridiculous displays like today that frustrate the hell out of me. I think the mentality is a big factor.

great point, if you look at Cardiff and villa as 2 games where we were the better side, only to drop points. I think the difference is when you pay a a few hundred grand for a player, you get some outstanding performances, peppered with mediocre (Leon been a perfect example) however when you pay millions you buy consistency as well as ability. On top of their game is Snodgrass miles better than Clarke? No.
but Snodgrass cost Wet Sham £10m and £60k per week and therfore will be a minimum 7/10 every game, rather than a 8/10 one week then 4/10 the next.
all said we shouldn't call out the board, as we wax lyrical about Wilder, Coutts, Duffy, Brookes etc, remember Kevin & Prince write the cheques for them, they deserve the credit the footballing staff get.

I'd add Fulham at home to that list. I think that the score line masked the reality of the game.

Interesting that you mention the Fulham home game following Wilder's comments yestarday about a number of our players being currently dead on their feet.

At the end of that Fulham game a fair number of their players were flat out, face down on the pitch. Like a war zone.

If any team looked at that stage that they wouldn't have the stamina to see out the season then it wasn't us.

It's all hindsight but maybe in the JTW we didn't recruit in positions to cover players that would need rest at some stage February to April.

On the bright side (and I'm still of the opinion the seasons not over) let's hope Wilder, Knill and the rest of the staff have learnt lessons and are given the resources to make things even better next season.

Living in Bristol the city fans down here feel like me really. On the face of it its been a great season for both of us, but we can't help but shake the feeling of dissapointment and what might have been. I trust Wilder and think he has done a near faultless job. But we have missed some big opportunitys, such as doing the double over the fowls when they were down to 10 men, drawing with Cardiff at the death, losing to Barnsley and Birmingham from winning positions. Will this season prove to be a massive missed opportunity? Time will tell.

I think you can judge how good the season has been by the crowd's reaction at the end of games where we have lost. The team has still been applauded off the pitch. That we are still behind the team after the poor run we have recently been on, is testament to the quality of the football.

I have loved this season , main aim was not to be relegated
Some fantastic home and away games, entertaining to watch and never boring
In the end looks like we will fail to get into the top 6, but the extra 10% of quality required to close out games, take chances more consistently and score late goals to get wins or draws ultimately comes down to having better players. Looks like we are burnt out this season with all the effort the players have put in, so the Barnsley and Brum games where we potentially should have won have caught up with us
Shame, but go again next year

I’ve just counted 5 performances where we’ve just not turned up this season - qpr, Hull, Preston, Barnsley and Birmingham (all away)

There’s obviously other games we’ve lost, but I don’t think we’ve been shite in those games even if we gave away daft goals etc

In 44 games you’ve got to be happy with that
I think you're being a bit harsh on a couple of performances there.

At QPR we went behind fairly early to a freak goal and just didn't have enough quality to get back into it, but I don't remember any lack of effort.

We gave QPR something to hang on to and they did it in determined fashion.

At Preston I thought we had the better of the first half but they came out and absolutely blitzed us in the first 20 minutes of the 2nd half during which they got their goal.

Sometimes that just happens. I don't think there was any lack of effort, or that we ever gave up chasing an equaliser but once again we just lacked that bit of quality when it mattered.

The other 3 I'll give you.

I'm not sure I would have that down as a game where we were outclassed. At 1-0 we were looking very comfortable, they then got two goals out of absolutely nothing which allowed them to do exactly what they do best, which is to keep hold of the ball, as they were no longer having to chase the game. Even with them having all of the possession we still managed to score 4.

Yeah i was being harsh, so of 44 games then 3-5 have been below par (as opposed to just being beaten by better teams like Wolves or Fulham)

My memory might be playing tricks on me LJB. I've just checked the match stats, and we had 55% possession & 19 shots to their 16, so you may be right.

I remember CCV's poor back pass, but my overriding memory is of them going through us like a knife through butter, didn't they have a 50/50 goal disallowed & hit the woodwork as well?, before we got 2 late goals to make things look respectable. I also remember Lundstram at either RB or RCB in the last 15 mins or so, which may have coloured my memories. :)
