a) Spending big money does not guarantee success or even improvement.

Putting aside the recent experiences of our dear cousins from across the city, there have been innumerable examples of this in my many years of watching the game, starting with Sunderland in the 1950's.

b) The board do not pick the team, nor do they decide on the formation or the tactics . The manager does that.

Spending money does not guarantee success but it’s virtually impossible in the modern game to get promoted from the Championship without spending big money. I can’t think of the last team that managed it.

Alternatively spending nothing will guarantee stagnation or decline.

Possibly Huddersfield. Depends on how we define big money.

Edit. Just seen your reply to another poster.

Don't know how much Huddersfield spent. Obviously more than us, but what we spend is usually a division below our status. Did Huddersfield spend big in championship terms?

We received the Walker and Maguire money so our net spend is fuck all.

All the new contracts (read pay increase) for Wilder and half the team cost nothing as they all agreed to stay on the same wages they were on in League 1 - so I heard from someone who knew someone who had it on good authority from someone who is an expert on running a viable business.

So we have spent nothing on transfers, nothing on salary increases even the DESSO came free in a cornflake packet.

The 'profit' we made from Brayford should have been enough to spunk 10/20 million of someone elses money in the JTW..

Disgrace..

Really ?

I'll give you a few , just for starters. Barnsley, Bradford City, Bournemouth, Burnley ( fucking hell, they all begin with a 'b') and they're are several others.

Brighton is the sensible model. 15 - 20 million spend over a 2 year project. No reason why we, with a much bigger fan base and regular attendance exceeding Brighton, can’t look to spend something like that.

Bournemouth spent a fortune. Burnley spent more than us. The other two were years ago.

The first two not BEFORE they were promoted.

As to the other two, did the ' modern' game only start in the last few years ?

Key quote from the Prince on what we have spent this year (below in bold).. Basically all players in the summer window came from the Walker and Maguire money, and the January signings via Kev and the Prince. According to Kevin McCabe we also banked an add on due to Brighton's promotion to the Premier League. In Wilder's first season we sold Dominic Calvert Lewin, Che Adams and Aaron Ramsdale for significant sums:

Will money be available during the transfer window?

PA: I own the club 50/50 so it can’t be only my say. But I think as we stand right now we have a realistic chance of promotion and so I think we should. We want to have quality, though, not quantity. I would rather have two players who make a difference instead of four who are like what we have. I think the fans should know that not me or Kevin have put any pound into our pockets. We have put money into the club every year. This year we might break even but only because of the (Kyle) Walker and (Harry) Maguire (sell-on) deals. But we expect another deficit next season. We are break even only if we assume there is no activity in January and I think that is not a correct projection.

Sheffield United have had a myopic way of doing business since the 1930’s, they were willing to sell Hagan to Wednesday for fucks sake. I don’t mean to sound dramatic but it’s like a malignant tumour that has run through the club ever since. Passed down from board to board. Four McCabes on the board at one time? The United gravy train keeps on giving. We have the best manager in a generation in charge. If you fuck this one up please, please just fuck off because my hopes and dreams are disappearing like your ambition.

Four McCabes?

What gravy train and who is it giving too?

Three of them have never been paid and I don't know about the fourth one. Do they keep him/her in a locked attic and just let them out for board meetings?

Spending no money in comparison to the league does guarantee a relegation battle. Ask Burton and Barnsley (although they spent more than us).

Spending big doesn't guarantee success but if you've got a decent manager, who knows what he's doing and you back him with a decent amount then there's a good chance of success.

Failing that just drop the name Sheffield United change it to Blades and we'll get promotion just like all the other Bs :)

The board could ask why our recruitment and development of young attacking players who can shoot has been so poor in recent years then do something about it. Instead they do nowt but watch as it goes on year after year with unhealthy priorities elsewhere.

Our attacking line up up front yesterday was embarrassingly old and inept and if we have no good young uns coming through who can help fill a situation like that we are in a poor state and some at the club should take responsibility for it and act.

Do your maths re the income from fans, and subtract running costs. It doesn’t add up. People conveniently mock, but it’s quite clear in the accounts.

So the reason we have is that our cuttent owners don’t have that type of money to spend.

We make do with what’ve have, or find richer owners. The fan base just doesn’t cut it.

So you’re saying Tony Bloom being worth over a billion matters :eek::eek:

To be honest I always suspected there was a fourth ........

There has to be a brains of the outfit somewhere ................
