Of course it applies to Duffy, my point is and was from the beginning is that Duffy has the licence to play further forward and as good as he’s been when he’s played hasn’t imo won the best midfielder by a ‘mile’.

I haven’t got a problem with people saying him because I think he’s a cracking player but even if he did win it, it wouldn’t be by a ‘mile’, again just my opinion. What it does show is that we have some very good players on our books to be having this debate in the first place.

And can I ask you nicely to stop being stupid, asking me questions that you know what the answer will be, it’s all a bit petulant.

Just trying to figure out your way of thinking. It's nice to debate without calling a fellow fan stupid, give it a go

You were cunningly trying to be a bit clever in post #27, I’m not daft mate.

GK -Blackman - commands his area and gives the defence confidence. Must get him back on loan next season.
DF. - Stearman - he is the defensive leader when he goes off we concede.
MF - Duffy - when he starts we usually win, move the ball quicker, cause the oppo. more problems and Fleck looks a better player for him being in the team.
ST - Clarke - 18 goals and leads the line taking a lot of stick from oppo. defenders.
Most improved - Duffy - because a number of fans said he wouldn't cut it in the championship and Carruthers would take his place.
Best result - bouncing day massacre
Worst result - Barnsley away - after getting back into the game our own mistakes cost us 3 points and probably the play offs.
Best atmosphere - bouncing day massacre you just had to be there when Duffy scored.
Best away following - probably Villa edge it they did make a little noise but generally away followings this season have been quiet. Millwall disqualified for that continuous repetitive droning noise.

From what I have seen ...

Best Goalkeeper this season and why?

Jamal Blackman - Seems more of an intelligent keeper (apart from slapping Ryan Woods, which was deserved) and better shot stopper. But I still like Moore.

Best Defender this season and why?

O'Connell - More consistent and committed than Stearman, although Basham has been surprisingly bloody good of late

Best Midfielder this season and why?

Fleck - Remains the engine room we desperately need. He is skilful, determined, clever and quick and grafts for ninety

Best Striker this season and why?

Difficult choice, because all of our strikers have flattered to deceive. If pushed, it's Clarke due to his early season prolific run.

Most improved player and why?

Chris Basham - for too long Basham was a weak link and seemed the vulnerable option we played. But this season he's come on so well as part of the back three and a real boost to our capability

Best result/match this season and why?

Sheffield Wednesday 2-4 Sheffield United - Amen. This result cancels out Boxing Day

Worst result/match this season and why?

From what I saw it has been Hull. We were fucking dismal. The worst match was Burton away, because of what we lost in Coutts

Best match for atmosphere this season (home or away) and why?
I loved watching us beat the squealers. The Millwall game was good to be there, but any game I get to is great.

Best away following (at the Lane) this season and why?

Only seen two, but Millwall were up for it.

pommpey

Best Goalkeeper this season and why?
BLACKMAN. Both played a decent amount of minutes, however for me Blackman is by far the better keeper and we really need to sign him in summer.

Best Defender this season and why?
Toss up between JOC and Baldock for me. If it’s going on “defending” I’d edge towards JOC

Best Midfielder this season and why?
FLECK. One of the best midfielders in the league, Imagine if Coutts was fit.

Best Striker this season and why?
Have to go with CLARKE purely for the goals he’s scored. Not had the same impact second half of season, but first half was unplayable.

Best result/match this season and why?
PIGS away. End of.

Worst result/match this season and why?
There’s been a few bad ones amongst the good ones. Norwich at home in terms of the game was terrible. HULL away was horrific from a performance POV.

Best match for atmosphere this season (home or away) and why?
Brentford at home was a great atmosphere with it being our first game back for years. Wolves fans away deserve a mention, they made a hell of a lot of noise.

Best away following (at the Lane) this season and why?
None were that great. Millwall and villa stand out

Best Goalkeeper this season and why?
Jamal Blackman - Had my doubts at the start of the season, always preferred more experienced keepers, and his kicking was woeful. But he has become a huge player for us (in more ways than one). He looks confident coming for crosses; I expect him to get the ball almost every time it is crossed into the box. Some of the saves have been outstanding, and we'd be a lot worse off without him.

Best Defender this season and why?

Chris Basham - It could be any one of 3 for me. Basham, Stearman or O'Connell. I'm going to go with Basham. He looks like a daddy long legs when he runs, but the energy he has to get up and down the pitch and surprise defenders with a Zidane Roulette is amazing. He keeps improving season on season for us. He works well in this trio in this formation. If we switch to a back 4 permanently though I feel he would be the one to miss out eventually.

Best Midfielder this season and why?

John Fleck - through all the chopping and changing of the midfield since we sadly lost Paul Coutts in battle, Fleck has had to adapt his game and now he runs the show. Duffy is a contender for his effectiveness, we look a different team without him, but missing Fleck has a more detrimental effect on the team. Not afraid to take one for the team when defending, although we could do without losing him to suspension every 6 weeks or so!

Best Striker this season and why?

Leon Clarke - yes the goals aren't flowing like early season, but he has a very positive effect on the team in general. He helps us defend from the front, he doesn't give the opposition defenders a moment of peace. He chases them down until they inevitably boot it up field and gives us a better chance of turning defence into attack. His goals at the start of the season are the reason we are still in with a (tiny) chance of finishing in the top 6. But he's lazy apparently... :)

Most improved player and why?

Jamal Blackman - this could have gone to Stearman, but Jamal Blackman scared the life out of me at the start of the year. Just looking at the difference in his kicking alone shows the work he's putting in to improve. Now I dread seeing him out of the starting XI. If he is affordable, he would be my first summer signing.

Best result/match this season and why?

Sheffield Wednesday 2-4 Sheffield United - duh. This match gave the whole club a "massive" boost, and gave us that extra spring in our step in the following months (up to the Burton game). Never mind shutting up most of my Wendy mates :D

Worst result/match this season and why?

Barnsley Away - the first half was absolutely terrible. Awful. With what was at stake at this time of the season, where a win puts us in touching distance of the playoffs, to put in a performance like that first half is unforgivable. I know Barnsley are scrapping for their lives, but we went ahead and to not hold that lead, and even lose the damn game was stupid. We win that game and we put the pressure on everyone above and just below us. I came away from that game gutted, moreso than at pretty much anytime since Southend at the start of last season.

Best match for atmosphere this season (home or away) and why?

I've got a memory like a sieve, and a habit of drinking 4 or 5 pints before a match, so it all gets fuzzy. Leeds away was a fun atmosphere though.

Best away following (at the Lane) this season and why?
Probably Millwall really (take into account the memory problems above). They made some racket, but it may be because I sat closer to the away end in the last match :D

GK- Blackman
I judge a goalkeeper at this level on how many points they cost you through regulation errors, vs how many they earn you with outstanding saves. Blackman has only made one clanger vs QPR and has made several outstanding saves. Controlling his area is a doddle for him and will only get better with experience.Fingers crossed we get him back.

D- Jack O'Connell
Absolute rock, who reads the game well and can distribute the ball well.He can also carry the ball with distinction and play neat passing moves in the final third. He should be disappointed not to score after bagging six last season.

M- John Fleck
If you asked me before Christmas I'd have picked Coutts or Duffy, but it is a 46 game league campaign.Coutts was unfortunately crocked and Duffy has faded in the second half of the season, like he did last year. Unfortunately his game is very physical and he isn't getting any younger - it's bound to happen.John Fleck has been consistently excellent and his stats are impressive.Comparing stats with Duffy or Brooks is pointless as they both play higher up the park.

ST - Leon I think you have to go for him due to the volume of goals and the fact he got a double at the sty.I would say Billy, Clarke and Don have all exceeded expectations despite the ridiculous amount of chances we've missed.

Most improved - I'm going to pick from the players who were at the club last season and go with Basham. A workhorse who has the ability to step out into midfield and drive us forward. His contribution in the final third is hit and miss though.

Best Result - Bouncing day

Worst result - I'd go Bristol City at home due to our absolute domination.

Best match for atmosphere - Leeds at home.

Best Away fans- Villa, no contest.

Best Goalkeeper this season and why?
Jamal Blackman - Fantastic signing, but sadly I think will be out of our range this summer after a strong season. Love the feeling of confidence he inspires when we're defending corners or free kicks round the box...so many times he just reaches out and claims the ball.

Best Defender this season and why?

O'Connell/Stearman tie. JOC has stepped up almost seamlessly to this level. Normally looks calm and composed, superb defensive header of the ball and decent distribution. Stearman had a patchy start but has been a stand out player in the 2nd half of the season. Another very astute signing.

Best Midfielder this season and why?

Mark Duffy. I've been saying for ages that when he plays well, we play well. A truly class act, and one who, were he 5 years younger and playing like this, would be in the top half of the Premier league. He is that good.

Oh, and also for the bouncekiller goal.

Best Striker this season and why?

Leon Clarke. 3rd top scorer in the division less than 18 months after many blades (myself included to my eternal shame) thought he was a pointless signing even for League 1. Has had the season of his life and is deservedly in the team of the season.

Most improved player and why?

John Lundstram. He took some horrendous flack when he was thrown in at the deep end after Sord**l's assault on Coutts, but I think he's improved enormously and will continue to do so if given game time. I'd like to see him shoot a bit more as he can clearly hit accurate and powerful shots, but other than that I'm really pleased with how he's developed.

Best result/match this season and why?

That I attended? Leeds 1-2 Blades. Was a special night to beat them and go (briefly) top of the league.

That I couldn't make? Only one contender for that really.

Worst result/match this season and why?

Burton away. Fuck off Sordell you pathetic thug.

Best match for atmosphere this season (home or away) and why?

2-2 at Villa Park. Cracking match with an atmosphere to go along with it.

Best away following (at the Lane) this season and why?

I might get stick for this but I was very impressed with how many Cardiff brought, for the most stupidly-timed kickoff in the history of football.

Controversial but I'd give Bolton's away following a shout, not in terms of numbers but in terms of the backing they gave to their team, admittedly helped by their shock victory.

Best home fans of the games I went to: Wolves.

Best Goalkeeper this season and why?
Blackman. As others have said he has improved throughout the season and demonstrated a gap between himself and Moore.
Best Defender this season and why?
Stearman for me. We missed his physicality against Barnsley for example. Just feel he adds some strength that Wright lacks.
Best Midfielder this season and why?
Duffy. Of all our midfielders we miss him most when he isn't playing. In fact he gets my overall POTS. GLTTL.
Best Striker this season and why?
Clarke. Better than Sharpe
Best result/match this season and why?
Bouncing day massacre. Because the bouncing stopped courtesy of a certain Mark Duffy
Worst result/match this season and why?
Hull away. I'm married to a Hull fan
Best match for atmosphere this season (home or away) and why?
Leeds home was good.
Best away following (at the Lane) this season and why?
Cardiff tbh. Brought a fair number in poor conditions with a bad ko time

Didn't include most improved... Brooks. From being farmed out to Chesterfield on loan to our go to player that can make a difference
