It is funny isn't it. Even though managers and players come & go, clubs do seem to have a certain 'character'.
Bizarrely, I am quite pleased Millwall have a difficult run in. We are much better as the underdog - that's our character. Millwall are officially the best giant killers in FA Cup history; no lower league club has knocked more English Champions or FA Cup holders than us. We have three Cup Finals coming up.
Plus, two of our last three games are at The Den, and I do not care how big or rich the other club are, I pretty much fancy us at home against anyone in English football up to the top half of the PL at a rocking Den. Fulham having to come to us on a Friday night in such a fever pitch atmosphere is almost perfect.
I would be more fearful of playing the likes of Ipswich, Hull City and Sheffield Wednesday in the run-in. You only have to look at the only home games we have lost this season - Burton, Barnsley and Ipswich - to see how we prefer being the under-dog. In fact, we have only lost 7 of the last 54 home matches - Rochdale, Shrewsbury, Bolton and Oxford United join the three already mentioned. Only Bolton Wanderers can be considered a 'bigger' club. Yet we dispatched Bournemouth, Watford and Leicester City (with ten men) at home.
It's why our London derby record is so good too. Millwall v Charlton is the most one-sided derby in English football (they have only beaten us 12 times in 74 meetings & not for 23 years now). Millwall hold the superior record to West Ham, Palace, Arsenal (in fact no-one has beaten Arsenal more times than us as a percentage of meetings; 29 meetings, 12 Millwall wins & 9 draws), Chelsea and QPR.
Not saying this means we will breeze into the Play-Offs. Just that as a club, I think I prefer playing the likes of Fulham & Villa at The Den and even Middlesbrough away - especially under Neil Harris and with this team of fighters.
