Hmmm. Great start with Evans's opener, and what a strike. Well taken, cool finish. We looked very much in control against a Boro side who seemed to be still asleep most of the time. If they weren't giving the ball away they were going in heavy to win it back or deny us possession, which is where Leadbitter saw red. Evans's second was a sweet strike as well, right in the corner. Really, we should have been three up at half time, Clarkey fluffed a sitter as well.

Second half Pulis had obviously had a word and their 4-4-1 seemed to negate any numerical advantage in midfield. Many times I looked to find that extra man but Boro seemed to cancel anything out we had. They scored a typically sloppy goal for United to concede and consistently forced us onto the back foot with our midfield never really controlling. Even a switch to 4-4-2 made no difference. Quite relieved to hear the whistle at the end.

Moore 7/10. Not much to do. No chance with the goal. Stopped a few standard gatherable efforts

Wright 7/10 Decent game

O'Connell 7/10 Managed some crucial headers and interceptions. Worked okay on the overlap

Basham 7/10 Good game for him. Fucked up a second half chance though

Stevens 7/10 Decent game blocking out any threat down the flank

Fleck 8.5/10 Busy as fuck. Made one error all game

Lundstram 6.5/10 Not a fan. Decent long balls but faffs about endlessly and has no finish on him

Evans 6.5/10 Great finishes but fucking hell, him and Lundstram don't half overplay it

Baldock 7.5/10 Another busy day for him and tried to get forward but the killer ball just wasn't there

Brooks 8.5/10 Thought he had a good game. They didn't know what to do with him, but leg him over

Clark 5/10 Not even at the races tonight. Fucked up the only real chance

Subs

Duffy 6.5/10 Made a bit of difference when we switched to 4-4-2 but not enough with Evans and Lundstram dicking about

Donadson and Leonard - not on enough to score

Ref: 3/10 Rubbish. Gave decisions he shouldn't have, allowed ones he should have punished.

Half time tea: 2/10. Too hot

Curry afterwards (Shapla, Moorfoot) 9/10

Crowd: Great

In summary:

Too much dicking about in the final third and not enough balls to strikers. And for fuck's sake Blades, kill teams off!

As much as the decisions went in our favour, the ref pissed me off with yellow carding anything that breathed.

How he gave a yellow to fleck for a little pull and IMO a second yellow to leadbitter for the challenge on Fleck (think he made a meal of it) was beyond me. Normally players get warnings but he only gave warnings to their left back 'Friend' before yellow carding him later on.

Just let the game carry on FFS, stop sending people off and ruining games. (I say that because we are useless against 10 men!) :)

The ref was fairly consistent in punishing cynical fouls that were designed to halt a break, and I wasn’t at all surprised that Fleck was booked for it – there was a moment 2nd half where Fleck moved to do the same thing and fortunately seemed to suddenly remember he was on a yellow and pulled out.

that's true, but i remember 2 boro players doing the same thing fleck did.. if not worse.

there was also a kick on evans from behind in the first half went unpunished, a pull and a kick on brooks in first half didn't even get us a freekick. mostly consistent but then also inconsistent at the same time

I couldn't believe the ref didn't book the Boro player for putting the ball in the back of the net in the first half, long after the whistle had blown, when he dinked it over Moore in front of the Kop. Any kicking away of the ball after the whistle has gone should be an automatic yellow.

Said the same , if they were winning and 2 mins to go its a certain booking so should be at any other time as I'm sure the rules don't state 'time wasting bookings only counts if you are winning or drawing a match '

Also how long did it take leadbetter to get the f off the pitch!? Seemed to be staying trying to pursuad the ref to change his mind !

I’m absolutley convinced that referees allow time wasting because they are so unfit and it allows them a breather. Look at the guts on the fuckers.

They were 1-0 down at the time, so he was wasting their time, as Leadbitter was. Their keeper was slow with goal kicks too, even second half.

pommpey, what marks would you give for the exit arrangements from the BLUT? At recent games they've announced that exit was at either end of the stand only. Last night they didn't bother with the announcement, but blocked the other exits anyway. It took us about 10 minutes to get out, we were still inside when they told the Boro fans they could leave, so segregation wasn't apparently the reason.

It wasn't 'long after the whistle had gone', the whistle went because he kicked the ball. It was given for offside and it wouldn't have been given if he hadn't played the ball. It was still time wasting in a way but you can't book a player for being offside.

Well, I remember it differently, I'm not saying you're wrong. If that's the case fair enough. I've seen enough players over the years kick the ball away after the whistle has gone, and for me it should always be a yellow.

Whistle had not gone. Bamford's dink then allowed the ref to blow offside.

The linesman had already raised his flag as Bamford, clearly offside, went to play the ball. I thought the whistle had gone before his casual chip.

I've just watched the game back and the ref doesn't blow until a second or two after Bamford kicks the ball. It's the whole 'can't be offside unless the player goes for it'. The ref was basically waiting for Bamford to kick the ball. At the time I was also thinking the ref should book him but then after considering it realised he would've been getting booked for being offside.

Can you see if the linesmans flag goes up as Bamford approaches the ball?

1/10 for that 'strategy'. We came out into the concourse then back into the BLUT toward the JSS then down the terrace and out at the corner of BL and JSS.

Looked up BL and there were a row of coppers and horses holding the Teesiders back. If they try that one on Saturday they might have problems.

Did the Shapla ? Actually just swerved it after the game and went to the Noodle Inn instead 8/10.
Fleck 8.5/10 ? wow ,wait till you see him have a decent game.

He did a lot of what Lundstram and Evans weren't quick enough to do. He was also played into trouble by those two too many times and manage to unfuck the situation. Second half, we'd have lost it without him.

Disagree hugely ,he was hampered in the second half by an injury which limited his movement and his booking and this was the reason we were over run ,he should have been taken off earlier for his own good in my opinion. He is a lot better than he showed last night.
