Just where do you get off?

What part of Li Tie, David Sommeil, and Mamadou Seck is wasting money?!?

Utter bollocks.
Li Tie looked a great player in a cup game I saw him in. (Think it was an early round league cup game with a sparse crowd) I think he was fundamentally gone as a player when he joined us sadly and never played as a result. Would he have been a decent wage wasted?

Villa was awful. And notable for Colin playing a half-fit Killa out of position at full back, where he was done time and again. Bolton was dreadful, too, and is even worse than Villa in my memory on account of a truly foul half time pie.

Can I throw Blackburn away into the mix, as well ? Here, Negative Colin excelled himself by playing Del Geary as a left sided midfielder in front of Chris Armstrong—because Blackburn (the very definition of mid table mediocrity that year) were such a devastating threat down their right.

There was no-one on the post for the added time (?) free kick that won them all three points, either, despite several hundred Blades pointing it out loudly from behind the goal before the kick was taken.

<shudder>
We should have been two up after ten minutes at Blackburn if I recall. Poor finishing. The free kick was a kick in the nuts like.

He wasn't supported by the board ,we tried to do it on the cheap. If it hadn't been for the Hulse injury and Tevez we would have done it too ,mainly due to Warnock and not the board.
You only need to look at the signings he made for decent money to realise its better not to give him any.

In the summer yes, though the Akinbiyi signing later in the season was in the 1.5/1.75m region I believe. Though of course the only reason we went for him was that we for whatever reason weren’t prepared to match the asking price for Cameron Jerome – a player who would have certainly contributed in the Premier League.

I find it very sad that Warnock gets such stick on here and from a lot of Blades in general. He annoyed and frustrated me during his time with us but also delivered some great times. Some of the criticisms seem to be as follows:

He flirted with managing Wednesday and went for an interview for a different job whilst managing us, despite being a "big Blade" - well so what, if he wasn't a Blade, would it matter as much? Why does (his claim to) him being a Blade go against him? Brian Deane buggered off to Benfica instead of staying with us and helping us get promotion, but I don't see him getting pelters - the opposite, in fact. Harry Bassett actually came out with the M word, yet he doesn't get the sort of hatred that gets aimed Warnock's way. Is it because they aren't Blades?

He changes his story, gripes about his treatment/contract/deal, talks more about the financial backing, or lack of, during his time with us - it's obvious to me that he was and still is upset at the way he was treated, during his time and especially at the end. The fact that he still goes on about it after all these years says it matters a lot to him; he can't leave it alone. That tells me he is more of a Blade than some say he is. It also explains why the stuff he says doesn't always stack up. I have some sympathy, I never felt he was fully backed in either division and felt McCabe wanted him out from at least the promotion season if not before. However, we shouldn't get upset about it everytime he comes out with another little dig.

He is his own biggest fan, me me me - to be honest, why does that bother anyone? Football is full of massive egos and if his bothers you, wait till we get into the PL and start signing players who won't even remember the club's name during interviews. Especially when we start bringing the foreigners in, as everyone seems to want, some of them really don't believe the world exists beyond three feet of their own nose. Warnock has a big ego. It's part of what makes him tick.

His teams play anti-football / hoof / whatever you want to call it - true, but at the time we didn't have the money to afford the more technical players. When I see his teams (like on the box now) I am glad we have Wilder, but it can't be denied that it can be effective and he's good at what he does. Currently, his agricultural football is trumping several slick, footballing teams playing the beautiful game. As long as that continues, he will be given contracts.

He was out of his depth in the PL - yes, he was. But that's not something to blame him for, just like you shouldn't blame players when they reach their level. It's the way it is. We could have sacked him. We didn't. Also, I think he has matured and learnt, he may do a much better job with Cardiff if they go up.

He spunked the money on crap players - name a manager who hasn't. Again, at any point, we could have moved him out and brought in someone we thought could do a better job. It seemed convenient to McCabe to keep him and let him buy cheap players by the bucket load in the hope of finding a diamond. He proved that he wasn't good with a cheque book, but again, that might be different now.

He has a big nose - well so have I, so fuck off.

A bit more long winded than I'd planned, but can't people just try and get a little less wound up by his trademark comments? It's not like we don't know what's coming when he opens his mouth. And can't we at least acknowledge he gave us some good times? In all my years watching, not many managers have given us good times to remember, but he gave us quite a few.

The board did back him, but like with Wilder it's relative...our budget was second lowest in the league that season, just as Wilder's will be one of the lower Championship budgets.

Re: Nugent:

Just looked at the bid and it seems it was to be in instalments..I'm guessing dependent on our survival in the Prem...?!?!

This was posted above for the season's purchases:

£3m Davies
£2m Hulse
£500k Sommell
£500k Leigherwood
£200k Kazim-Richards
£2m Shelton
£1m Fathi

£6 million would have been a big chunk out of that.
Wasn’t Nade another £500k?

Madine is on for route one again :)

'Warnock is a cunt' would have saved you loads of time mate

Fucking love it.

Let's see if Warnock moans about Mike Dean as usual.

Just told their manager and players to fuck off lol.

Classy as ever.

Come on Fulham.

Wrong. I didn't work with him once while he was here, instead I sat on the John St and watched the best season in my time, up until last season. I've seen 18 managers and only one has taken the club to the Premier League, so I respect and thank him for that. It's hardly a club steeped in promotion glory, is it? Yet one of the two managers to have done it in my lifetime gets pelters on here, mainly for having the audacity to celebrate an injury-time equaliser for the side that now pay his wages.

I have never even mentioned him celebrating I said earlier I don’t give a shit that he celebrated I hate him because of what I have just seen on my tv the guy is a twat regardless of whether he got us up or not. He did what he’s paid very handsomely to do and never let us forget has he.

And plenty who were also paid handsomely failed.

What I would do for us to meet them in the playoffs. How sweet would it be!

Loved Warnock when he was here and I see a load of bollox being said about how he was properly backed by the board when we went up. My recollection was that out biggest signing that season was

You're recollection is a bit off, Ifill was signed the summer of the promotion season and played a big part in our promotion.

Generally got time for him, but he was an arsehole tonight and a hypocritical one at that

Shut it big nose.

:)

We can argue about the odd £200k but his constant claim of "no money" is easily proven to be horseshit.

If you have read his book, success is down to his brilliance, failure down to interference and lack of funds from the chairman. With numerous examples.

Strangely though he fails to mention his purchase of a certain T Agana from us whilst at Notts County for a record fee. His career didn't start too well and was sent out on loan to Leeds just a few months later.

Personally I would liked to have read the reasons behind the transfer, about being well backed by his chairman and an honest analysis of why it didn't start well (not least because i liked Agana a lot and was surprised at the time how poor he looked) and the reasoning behind the Leeds loan. Surely worthy of a page or so. But no, not one single paragraph or any reference to Agana in the whole book.

I gave up reading it at that point tbh. I admit I don't like the man. Not fussed about his managerial skills, good and bad, it's the ego and self congratulatory nature that I can't stomach and I began to wonder what other information was being omitted. I would love to read a proper well researched book about Warnock, warts an all.

Must admit though even I am surprised by his 'lost interest' comment. I suspect it was a throw away line meant to half explain our failure to stay up, but I think it might come back to haunt him. I certainly can't forgive him if he is serious and he should have walked right then if true to allow the club to find someone who was interested.

From the BBC:

The Wolves celebrations seemed to anger Cardiff manager Neil Warnock, who refused to shake hands with counterpart Nuno Espirito Santo at full-time and said after the game that he "did not want to see" the Portuguese.

This from the manager who described his players as celebrating as if they’d won the World Cup.

And Warnock says Wilder reminds him of himself.

So glad we have Chris!

Though of course the only reason we went for him was that we for whatever reason weren’t prepared to match the asking price for Cameron Jerome – a player who would have certainly contributed in the Premier League.

We were also close to signing Jerome in the close season between promotion and the PL season. Indeed, I was told by a board member that (along with the Claude Davis and Li Tie signings) it was a done deal. When the other 2 deals went through I assumed that the Jerome deal would also go through but it never happened. Don't know why.

And I suspect that, in a nutshell, forms a large basis for his attitude on his contract. He probably got the job in the first place because of his links to the club, but I always felt that this was also a factor in terms of pay, resource for the squad etc likely being lower than an equivalent manager we’d employ. The sort of attitude of “Here’s your contract, and here’s your budget. Don’t like it? You know where the door is.” – with the board confident he’d put up with it because he was a fan that wouldn’t leave the club. You saw signs of this when McCabe was asked about whether Wilder would get a new deal last year – I believe his words were “Chris already has a good contract.” Thankfully we extended it ultimately.
Not knocking Mcabe, but I think he got wilder the same way, “a blade” and a cheaper alternative, but luckily for Kevin it’s turned out to be an inspirational appointment.

Just seen the interviews on sky sports news, there is only one person who lacks class and that’s Warnock.

A great manager at Championship level and probably even the best ever, but a complete and utter cunt as a bloke.

Wilder (and his agent) have their heads screwed on, taking the United job was easily the biggest he'd had so his wages would have been too. When he achieved promotion they all moved quickly to negotiate a new deal. I know not everybody agrees but I still see a little resentment in McCabe's post deal interview.

My opinion of Warnock have completely changed since he left United.

I used to think he was great and could see no wrong in the things he said and did. But not by bit my admiration has changed to one of total disrespect.

The other night at the Lane I thought he was really classless. I haven’t seen what led up to Warnock telling the Wolves manager to eff off and refusing to shake his hand, but if it was just because they lost and missed two penalties, I’m embarrassed for him.

He’s on again now with his mate Brazil. All happy and calm and he’s forgiven Nuno! Reckons he was especially wound up cos he’d seen Nuno not shake Pulis’s hand the other week and was “furious” about it! Like he really gave a shit about that!

True 8blade, but money wise, when he was appointed, comparable to other managers in div 1.
He’ll be more than likely have got a much better deal now though I n line with other championship managers.

Really? Just like all our 1st team squad get paid in line with other championship players? I would respectfully suggest that CW is probably the 18th highest paid manager in the division at best.
