Thanks Roy.

Reading the comments I dare say Reed is the only one who might come anywhere close to our first team again, possibly Long in league cup games, but thats really about it.

Reed is young and haven't seen him play for ages, but back in the games I did see he didn't really impress.

However, as I say he's young and was younger still then. I just get this feeling that if released, supporters of other clubs are going to watch him and puzzle in the way we do about Coventry City and Fleck.

Cheers Panchero!

Reed to our first team? He’s doing decent in League two. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Whiteman was twice the player of Reed and we sold him.

Why was Whiteman twice the player Reed is?

When I watch Reed at 20 years old I see a Coutts in the making.

My Preston pal told me recently that Coutts was O.K. for them for the two years he was there but tended to run the ball into blind alleys and often lost possession! He didn't imagine he would become a key player in the Championship.

I only say this to emphasise the fact that Reed is only 20 years old and is obviously rated highly by the above fans after only a steady start to the season.

I suspect Reed will be released at the end of his current contract and sign for a L2 club. As promising as he looked as an 18 year old a couple of years ago, he's miles away from the level he'd need to be in order to get close to Utd's current 1st team midfielders.

When did you last see him play?

If Reed and Long played for other clubs and we signed them for say £250k each (like Nathan Thomas) I doubt there would be many objections.

I remember when Bale was at a similar age and Spurs considered getting rid of him for Downing*, these things can change quickly so wouldn't rule them out making a contribution in the future.

At the very least if they are let go I hope we put in a buy-back clause and 50% sell on fee.

When they played Cambridge a few weeks ago and will do so again on Sat

Seriously, can you give us a report on here for the Grimsby game please. Big game or Chesterfield and they'll be looking for a big contribution from Reed. Looking at the table this game is as big as it gets for a club desperately trying to retain league status. I reckon Reed will take the game by the scruff of the neck.

I've seen him a couple of times this season, the latest v Notts County when he was like a Rolls Royce amongst Cortinas!!

Yep, happy to although I doubt it will be a game for the purists - a huge one for both sides and really do or die for Chesterfield. I hope Reed does well - he'll be up against Woolford who has been playing in central midfield for Grimsby of late so he'll have a chance :-)

Reed, Scougall etc.

Wilder knows how important physicality is and mobility, neither are fast nor physical enough for the championship/league one. Won't play for us again IMO.

Why was Whiteman twice the player Reed is?

Whiteman has all the physical attributes, big , strong , athletic and a goal scoring midfielder scoring 7 in 39 for Doncaster this season.

Reed has all the skills but not the physical attributes and has scored 4 in 40 at Chesterfield. Size isn’t everything we know this, but in the lower leagues it seriously helps.

Whitemans stats nearly do prove my point though nearly twice as good in a league above.

But you're basing 'good' on goals scored. Lundstram has scored more than Fleck this season, but he's not better.

They're two different types of players. Reed is two (?) years younger as well, which is a lot in the age range.

Bad result and a surprising one. How did King Louis do M o' S?

Yes, a very disappointing outcome for Chez Vegas and one that probably condemns them to the National League (and possibly an even worse fate!).

Reed did ok on Saturday - some nice touches and he worked hard but in the mostpart struggled to impose himself in the game.

To be honest the game looked to be heading to 0-0 from very early on, only to be affected by the late pen, which from where I was certainly appeared to be the correct decision.

All in all there was a distinct lack if quality on show, not a great surprise given the criticality of the game to both sides. Reed did ok but no more than that. Would he look better amongst better players - perhaps? However, I still feel he is probably L2 or Lower L1 level and I'd therefore be surprised if Utd offer him another deal for any reason other than to secure compensation.

Well Reed isn’t a defensive midfielder or really an all rounder he’s the creative goalscoring type. He’s a decent player but theres levels.

You're right B'zz, Reed has that creativity but his best position is the one he is playing at Chesterfield - deep midfield, the Coutts role in fact, holds his position well, keeps possession well, plays the right ball. Ventures forward when needed.

Not sure when you last saw him play but he is strongly built now and loves a tackle.

As for comparison to Lundstram, well he makes him look like a carthorse in style, movement and energy.
