THE SHEFFIELD UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB LIMITED
The average woman at this company is paid 38.3% less than the average man

That's a higher pay gap than the national average which is 18.4%

Women make up 6.7% of higher-paid jobs and 41.3% of lower-paid jobs

This company is one of 78% of companies that pay women less than men

This company has a higher gender pay gap than the arts and entertainment sector average

#sheffieldunitedareadisgrace .... is what I'm sure Jean Hatchett will say, here's the best response to this issue:

As ever the devil will be in the detail. If you're averaging out the salaries of the girls in the superstore and ticket desk with those of the men employed as trainers at the academy and the club secretary and CFO at the Lane then of course you will get a huge disparity. The cause for concern would be if such a disparity existed between men and women doing the same job. But of course I'm sure that those who have been quick to express instant outrage have these figures at hand...

If it doesn't include players it isn't a great showing for the club.
You know that these figures are totally misleading and used to push a political and ideological agenda?

They do not show men and women doing the exact same jobs getting paid differently, they show men and women getting paid differently because men and women do different jobs at the same company. Men will be getting paid more on average at Sheffield United because men on average do jobs that pay more than the jobs women do, not because they are doing the exact same work and getting paid less than men for it.

It would be interesting to see the detail but just saying the men are in higher paid administrative jobs and women are in lower paid jobs wouldn't mean there isn't a case to answer.

Maybe no women applied for the coaching jobs at the academy and no men applied for the ticketing jobs. Just saying we need more detail, especially where they are doing the same job, before jumping to conclusions.

If they're comparing like for like work then this is a concern, as they probably aren't I couldn't care less

What about ethnic minorities? Are they paid less too?

Blackwell out.

This has enraged me to the extent that I’m totally outraged now - if it wasn’t such a fucking stupid post, I’d probably have exploded into millions of outraged fragments

I don't think Steven Hawking had this in mind when he theorised about the Big Bang. Probably just as spectacular though!

Just been to the ticket office and got my Brum ticket.

Threw this out there to the young lass and lad working today for their views. She was content with her pay and said she understood she actually earned more than most of the lads doing the same job.

When I asked the lad's opinion he just said she was a slag.

Why pay men more to do a job if we can just pay women less to do the same job?

You mean like this useless article who struggles by on a mere £150k a year?

Only if they bring a cat.

Well I took my cat to the Cardiff game. Not sure if he was counted, though.

Just make sure that each of your fragments is equally outraged!

This ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Gender Pay Gaps can be misleading due to the variety of roles that are assessed. In these circumstances the focus should be on whether men and women have equal opportunity to work in the higher paid roles or even whether the employer somehow classifies work of equal value based on the gender of the worker.
If the latter is happening then they fall foul of Equal Pay legislation; more time and energy should be spent enforcing this rather than generating headlines.

Aye, bloody Tory government with their bloody PC gone mad nonsense.
Commie bazzers.

It's illegal to pay women / men more for doing the same job and it has been since 1970.

I think it's safe to say these figures aren't anything to do with that comparison.
