According to the Liverpool echo.

EVERTON were today reluctantly forced to admit they have lost the race to sign Kyle Naughton.

Having spent the weekend fighting to secure the right-back’s signature from Sheffield United, it is now only a matter of time before Naughton is unveiled by Tottenham.

The news will come as a blow to Blues boss David Moyes, who had made the exciting 20-year-old one of his top summer transfer targets.

There has been much speculation since a report last Friday suggested Tottenham had wrapped up an £8m deal for Naughton and Kyle Walker but now this drawn out saga has reached its conclusion.

Everton officials made attempts over the weekend to thrash out a deal for Naughton, who had spent most of the last month indicating that Goodison was his preferred destination away from Bramall Lane.

They were furious, though, that it had even come to that as they were under the impression 10 days ago that Naughton would become their player.

Sheffield United’s conduct has enraged Goodison officials and it is still scarcely believable that after issuing a statement on their website explaining why Naughton would be sold to Everton, he has ended up moving to Tottenham.

The Blues, after all, had agreed a fee and personal terms with Naughton and were expecting him to have a medical, only for Tottenham to come in and gazump them.

See you then Kyle. Thanks for the great season you gave us!

What a surprise, scousers moaning. That never happens usually.

Everton - you were outbid. You lose. End of. Stop whining.

Also, try to remember that you're not as big a club as you like to think you are.

My understanding was that they hadn't agreed personal terms.

That was what the club statement said, it said the deal had been agreed but it was dependant upon the player's agreement

Deal confirmed, just received the text from SUFC that both players have signed for Spurs

If it doesn't prove now that McCabe has a habit of talking testicles in the press, then people need surgery to remove the rose tinted spectacles.

The lads have gone, rightly or wrongly, but McCabes statement is a testament to the amount of spin and poor PR that the club have got into a habit of spewing out.

For good or bad i'm glad the deal is finally sorted to bring an end to all the speculation and rumours, heres hoping this kicks off some inbound transfer activity over the coming days, we need it now with the new season only a couple of weeks away.

Why??? McCabe never once said they wouldn't be sold. All he said was that if a deal wasn't agreed between the Clubs by Friday then "the shutters would be pulled down". How do you, I, or anyone else outside the Club know that the deal wasn't agreed between the Clubs by Friday and that it's taken till today for personal terms to be agreed and contracts to be signed?

What testicles has McCabe talked in the press???

Yes, to be fair to McCabe he does choose his words VERY carefully but still, it looks to us young fools like he's hiding behind clever, often ambiguous semantics. Maybe that isn't his intention but it gets up the noses of some and he is developing a habit of it.

Lord you can sure twist a straight arrow just to stir the shit. When you come up with a positive comment can you put it in bold so I can keep it as a fond memory. Regardless, keep chiping in as it makes this site interesting.

Personally CFA, I agree with him. You are right though, the more polarised opinions are, the more interesting a forum becomes. So what's the problem?

Yeah, because selling our two most promising young players is an act dripping in positivity, isn't it?

If you don't like my posts, don't read them. And if you want to paint everything as being wonderful, be my guest - but don't get at me for having a different point of view.

Thanks for your permission to keep posting, by the way. Appreciate it.

If it means we strengthen areas of the squad in more urgent need of strengthening (ie. up front) then yes, I'd say it is positive move.

Fair point but it's more a means to an end rather than a positive move. The one step back isn't a positive move - the two steps forward are.

Well best wishes to both of the Kyles, have a great time in the spurs reserves, they sure have a great reputation for getting the most from talented youngsters (Lennon for about 3 seasons, Huddlestone, Bale, Routledge etc.)
Anyway i'm glad that McCabe will now give a bit of the cash to Blackie to spend on signings that will more than likely be SHITE, such as Evans who isn't really proven at any level but i'd still love us to sign so we probably won't get him. We can also afford to sign the rest of the Watford first team, and then pay some outrageous wages to some free transfers. Then when they all prove to be useless we can bring in a couple of loan palyers who will either be SHITE ( Beattie ) or decent ( Halford ) but we have no cash left to sign em permanently. Don't even get me started on the Kenny SHITE and his possible replacement or the lack of.
So to summarise my opinion SHITE SHITE SHITE. It's no good i'm going to have to spend the season drunk

Totally agree with you Matth.

If people think this is good for the club then they are sorely wrong.

We can only hope that both of them flop and that their performances for us were just a fluke for this to be a good deal.

We are struggling to bring players like McIndoe and this is with the sale of Beattie, 20mil payout from Wet Spam and all our "off the field" revenue sources. Then the players we do have we are far too quick to sell.

No parachute payments though this year.

Just over 2 weeks to go and we dont seem to be doing much.

It's less about the money though and more about the staggering lack of ambition. Naughton being sold you can understand, but selling both our star homegrown rightback AND his heir apparent in the same deal is nothing short of unbelievable. Surely we're now going to have to invest at least some of that money in a new right back? What's the point?

And before anyone suggests Bromby playing there all season - no. Just no.
