I reckon Giggs will be a pretty crap manager for Wales, but I was just thinking that there probably couldn’t be a better technical mentor for Brooksy. When to go, when to wait, when to pass, when to hold, inside or outside...

Not going to China with them, but hopefully he can get in the next squad and spend a few days under Giggs. Be nice for call-ups to be genuinely of benefit.

Certainly better for him than Southgate!

Rob Page who manages the under 21s said he didn’t expect to see him again and the only reason he’s with them is to avoid the long trip to China which could set back his recovery from glandular fever.

Brooks is a Man U fan so he’s bound to idolise Giggs. Let’s hope Giggs is a good coach and doesn’t encourage him to move to the PL just yet.

Why?

He's got a better chance of playing at Euro 2020 and World Cup 2022 with England.

And he’s got a better chance of playing international football at all with Wales, which is why he has done after only a small number of starts for us.

Now we're back in the Championship it's nice to see that we're starting to get a few full call ups ... Brooks, Evans, Stevens.

Quiz question, before Brooks was capped at the end of last year, who was the last Blade (but not a loanee ie David Edgar) to win a full cap, the only one to do so when we were in the third tier?

Was it LJF? Only one I can think of – fairly sure he was recalled to Haiti when he played for us (before the injury).

Lafferty got a call up last year

:D Is that what Pagey said?

I hope all the doctors in the land are giving their glandular fever patients the same sound advice. "Plenty of bed rest, no alcohol, drink plenty of fluids, and whatever you do, don't go to China".

Southgate won't be in charge when Brooks could have potentially broke into the England set up. In defence of Southgate - and I'm no fan by the way - it is very difficult for Southgate to persuade dual nationality players to play for England in the future when they have a call up already for one of the inferior Celtic nations. There is no guarantee that Brooks will play for England and Brooks will know that it won't go down well to ignore Wales for several years and then if he isn't getting a look in for England, suddenly say he wants to play for Wales!

Personally I hope Brooks has chosen Wales because he loves Wales more than he does England, because football wise I think he could well have made a mistake but I totally get why he chose Wales.

He'll be there for years to come.

A nice lad who tows the FA line and brushes up well for the blazer board meetings. We will have another poor WC and despite the demands for a 'root and branch' review of English football, he will keep his job.

We will qualify easily for the next Euros and then have another poor tournament. He will keep his job.

Mystic Meg eat yer' heart out. This prediction lark is a piece of piss where Ingerland are concerned.

I've never been more disenchanted with England than now under Southgate and yes you're spot on he does fit the FA yes man mould! However, if we do badly this summer I think the fans will make if very difficult for Southgate to keep his job, even though the FA are desperate to keep him and save them money.

I hit a nadir under Capello and have remained at that level. To say I don't give a toss about Ingerland, greatly overstates my concern.

But so many of the 'fans' are like you and me; people who just don't give a shit. Sir Gareth will still be there when I'm sat in a home drooling and telling anyone who will listen, that we would have won the league if we'd kept Geoff Salmons....

That was last night for me - apart from the home bit!!

I do really give a toss mate though, it pains me to see England this limp. I don't watch England though right now because it just depressing to watch a team full of talent this average, largely thanks to Southgate's inability to motivate the players and get the best out of them. That's my views on England, based on his tenure so far.

Sven, Capello, McClaren, Hodgson, Southgate.

Nothing has changed apart from the personnel.

For some reason we have an obsession with playing the 'continental' way when playing Internationals. Slow plodding monotonous football, passing for the sake of it with no ambition.

England historically have done ok (more so in domestic european campaigns) because of the high energy, high pressing, attacking drive. For some reason, when it comes to Internationals we revert to the 'International' way which suits every opponent down to the ground.

Does my cake in.

I think you’ll find that Northern Ireland are in fact the home nation champions, having successfully defended that title.

It’s always funny seeing how many that, ‘don’t give a toss about England’ actually spend writing about them and telling everybody how they don’t give a toss.
I love England but the current squad and manager are so uninspiring. Just thinking about the new Burnley caps,in the old days when you were called up for the first time you got to train and play with great players, Gerrard, Scholes, Beckham, etc. Look at it now, Dier, Henderson, Young, Sterling etc...wow!
