Bipolar Sheffield United.
Capably of absolute bilge four nights ago and then far better tonight.
As for the fans, severe criticism was warranted, as the manager underlined himself.

Don't want to put words in the mouth of the OP, but the thing that was funny for me about Friday was not the criticism of the performance, which was totally valid. It was the fact that suddenly the sky was falling, there was no way we were making the play offs, we'd be lucky to make midtable, Wilder had been found out, etc etc. Way more people posting then there were after a great performance tonight!

Yeah and some of that was coming from the manager.

Seems like I’m in a minority on this, but I thought that was a pretty transparent and not very subtle piece of reverse psychology aimed at the players.

Friday was by no stretch an overreaction. We really were that bad. Tonight, I don't think we were that good and I think we were let off the hook by that penalty miss.

"Penalty miss"???

Penalty SAVE!! :)

Exactly. But pass comment and it's "unnecessary".

Seems some can't wait more than a few moments of post-win euphoria to engage and have a go at other fans who had the temerity to feel passionate about a shocking loss.

Seems a juxtaposition to immediately have a go at other fans, criticising them at the earliest opportunity for them having a go at the team at the earliest opportunity.

I was pretty disgusted with the performance against Hull. Worst since Bury away. However I didn't think the sky was falling or feel the need to spout bollocks about Wilder being "found out" - whatever that means - and unlike some, certainly felt no need to crow about " told you" comments from those who are negative on a daily basis.

Football , is a a strange mistress
like a woman it mood swings when it wants and for no apparent reason
We are not the only club that gets these happy / sad episodes

man city , spent half a billion lose at wigan for a seasons low then tan Arsenals backside
as it ever was so shall it ever be

its why we go, it mirrors life

A succession of therapists has warned me that I need to forget that Bury away ever happened, and that I should repress it as far from consciousness as possible. (That this advice is contrary to all conventional wisdom around integrating trauma holistically into therapeutic process ... is just indicative of how irreconcilably traumatic that night was).

Please stop reminding me. Everyone. Please STOP !

Utterly agree, and I think I felt exactly the same.

But I did feel the need to accept that there would be a reaction from many that I would deem OTT. So I ignored the worst excesses and didn't feel the need to immediately sarcastic comments about those reactions. All a bit unnecessary in my opinion.

(Not saying you were being sarcastic.. that I've noticed ;))

really? some of us would have been hanged in medieval times for trying to remain positive.. have it.

In the SKY pre match interview before Hull, Wilder said they were playing a flat 5 midfield and had done so a few times during the season - notably PIGS away and Norwich away, both ending in wins. It didn't work against Hull, but for me it wasn't the flat 5 in midfield it was the complete lack of closing down and working hard when we didn't have the ball. It should also be remembered that against Pigs and Norwich we only had 35/40% of play, and in games like that it's patience that counts.

We worked ever so hard against Reading and didn't give them a minutes peace when they had the ball.

THAT is how we play - THAT is why we won last night. We got back to PRESSING last night. A no 10 helps like Duffy but whether it's 3-5-2 or 3-4-1-2, both of those formations has to work hard and press when not in possession.

We were shit at Hull because the team (and possibly) management forgot what got us into this position in the first place.

The lessons to be learned from Hull and Reading are easy to see.

We were shit at Hull because throughout the game we were giving the ball way. Time after time. That gives you little opportunity to press as you're always on the back foot.

You are right - the control from most of our players was abysmal - but the question is what, in recent weeks, has happened to pressing the opposition?

We appeared to have gone back to basics that have served us well a lot of the season.

Pretty much what I said after QPR, why in the second half were we letting them pick up the ball on the half way line and virtually get to our box before we ran up to them to put a foot in or force a wayward pass?

Anyway, we were back to pressing last night.

Ooooooh we are completely brilliant.
Forget all the apocalyptical shite we posted Friday. Changed my mind after 4 days.
Team brilliant will piss the league
Wilder - brilliant manager never doubted him.
Title should have been “ bipolar Team” ..such a contrast in the two performances!!

Wilder created a very small minority to chuck their dummies out of the pram due to his interview and more importantly the performance on Friday, this lead to a very small minority to call one or two out but it was in no way a consensus on the forum or indeed the Blades social network.

You’ll get this from time to time, that some can’t comment on a win because they either haven’t been or aren’t willing to let a couple of comments go from the last dire performance so some will comment on something that’s happened in the past to appease themselves in some strange way, that’s life.

If we played like we did on Friday and results didn’t go our way over the weekend is why a minority said this.
yeah but if my mum had stayed in and not met my dad.. the ‘that’s it naar’ brigade were out in force but gone strangely silent now
anyway i’m not here to gloat what i was saying at the time was it wasn’t the end until it was mathematically impossible ( i got it for saying that as well).. it’s the bladescoaster.. normal service resumed! :)
