..is not this season, we are going to finish mid table, which Is where most would have been happy with it’s what is going to happen next season.

We scoffed at the pundits earlier in the season saying a lot of our form was down to momentum from last season but I am starting to think there was something in that..

If we now stumble to finish 13th or so we will be in the bottom end of the form table with no momentum or confidence to carry over to next season.

I want to see us finish strongly for that reason, I am not bothered about the playoffs as I don’t think we would win them, but I want the players to believe we can still compete at this level. If we start next season in the form of the last three months we are going to be in serious trouble.

I have the same worry.

Teams have latched on to how we play and how to stop us, there will be no element of surprise at all next season.

Agree, the next two months are important; winnable games. We need to get back to winning but I'll not worry until we've played those games and seen how we get on.

Another way to avoid that would be to buy players capable of improving the squad. You know decent Championship level players.

Not League one triers.

There is a reason we did our business early this window.. no one else at this level were interested in them.

I hate to say it, but it will depend on investment. The championship has been tainted with parachute payments and billionaires, which simply means we need to either get a scouting network beyond reproach or have a punt at it with £20m.

Said when the Prince came in, sod the game changing investment, if we can just keep our best players I'd be happy.
Well the fire sale under Judas has continued.
At a pace.
3 young players went even last season in what I regarded as a disaster despite what was said by many about the 100 points.
The lack of quality is showing big time.
Allied to (other?) bad mistakes by Wilder such as forcing Long out for Moore who is one of the worst keepers ever to wear a Blades shirt.
Some fkwit on here compared him to Simon Tracey :?
-- FFS, like comparing Tony Field to Ronaldo and Messi.

Be an interesting few months. We will see who is up to it and who's not now we are no longer playing with momentum and confidence. We have played the very best teams now so we can really see where we are against the teams we will be playing again next season.

You could argue the players are now playing for their United careers. That's how knee jerk I'm being tonight

I still think we'll be alright. I've seen enough of us, even over the last twelve games to suggest we're better than the total points we've achieved suggests.

Coutts will be back, and a few signing later we'll have new options. We're a good side most of the time, but we're very much like Brentford in that we often can't make it count.

Anyway, this season is far from over. We could be looking at things very differently in a few weeks.

Similarly worried about our form - I think it’s 10 points from 13 games since Coutts broke his leg. We’ve lost the tempo and rhythm Coutts and Brooks give us. We haven’t had the luck in some games but generally we’ve declined. It’s important we finish strongly from here and integrate the new players.

Given we won't go down and currently our formation is creating little, I think Chris really needs to experiment with something different.

If we had two formations then we have the ability to surprise teams. As it stands, most can negate our system before they see the team sheet.

dont forget duffy, when duffy coutts and fleck were playing well we were very hard to beat and created lots of chances for the strikers,

Good grief , we really have no chance with people like you around :(

Agree, I can’t understand why Duffy has been left out of recent games.

Because he hadn't been playing to his usual standard? When did he last have two good games in a row?

Why don’t you want us to buy good Championship players? Do you want to settle for being Rotherham? See sawing between Championship and League one?

Tell me the players you would have bought instead of the 4 who came in.

Let’s be honest how many of us expected us to be where we are now? Not many I would quess. We’ve strengthened midfield and so far Evans looks a good buy and we still have Coutts to comeback in next season, I worry that Fleck pushed a little further left as he has been of late isn’t as effective as he is more central, without Duffy we lack that creative intelligent player maybe Clarke with Duffy and Holmes in behind could work as Wilson hasn’t exactly set the Lane on fire. The summers transfer budget needs to go on forwards as we struggle to score and lack real pace that would allow us to go in behind or push teams back 10yards that would open the space up more for the wing backs and midfield to play, personally I think we’ll come up just short this season but still a great season then next year push on again and build just like Wolves, Villa , Derby And Fulham have done UTB

Not sure that’s completely right.

I’m pretty sure teams would have done their homework on us in games earlier in the season. Doing your homework is a given at this level.

When we have been in full flow, as was the case a few months ago, it’s one thing knowing what’s coming at you, but trying to stop our intensity, fluidity, and ultra offensive dynamism is another. Most teams struggled to do so. While it seems an age ago now, we did go top of the division, and were well worth it as well with some at times mesmeric football.

I think we can all agree a crucial component of this dynamism was lost to us in November. That’s clearly apparent.

There have been some strategic changes which, from my perch, haven’t worked. We are FAR too direct at times. Other than Don, I’m unsure we have the personnel to optimise this particular strategy. This mostly results in the ball coming straight back at us. We haven’t exactly looked comfortable doing this and overall the strategy puzzles me. Particularly so when you account for our inability to win 2nd ball / 2nd phase possession.

And while I can’t put my finger exactly on why this is so, we do seem to be more vulnerable to the swift counter. Certainly more so than in the first 15-20 games or so.

Just 2 short months ago, our strikers looked like they could and would score at will. Most will point to a lack of supply / service since then as to why this has changed. This emphasises my point from earlier in the season (in fact early from last season to be honest) that it is indeed important for a strike partnership to be exactly that. A partnership. To hunt as a pair. To be able to affect the game when the supply chain is restricted. While Clarke and Sharp have been our main men in this regard, it has taken Wilder far too long to realise that they are not an optimal pairing. But I’m not at all sure one has been created since the decision to install Leon as THE main man and on the field captain.

As such, and as against the grain of our naturally attacking methodology as it may be, I’m starting to think going with one up top (Leon or Don) is the way to go. Less sure of this at home but defo away.

Got some winnable games coming up. Last time I checked, you had to score at least one to do so !
