for players to be tired, injured, carrying a knock, on their period, etc.

Evans: Yes he was good, but you don’t know what physical shape he is in, before the game the physio could have said: “anything more than 60-70 mins and he could do his hamstring and be out for a couple of weeks.” Or whatever...

Do people really think Wilder looks at Evan’s and thinks “he’s our best player out there, I best take him off”.

I question the decision beforehand to take off Leonard for Lundstram then if we know that Evans can’t do more than 70 minutes.

You’re totally breaking up the midfield that has pretty much controlled the game with two subs. It had the effect that you might expect - a loss.

Why not just wait and bring Lundstram on for Evans 10 minutes later and just leave Leonard on who wasn’t actually doing anything wrong?

Personally I think he put Lundstram in to keep the flat midfield three that we seem to play now, rather than two CMs with one behind the striker. The system worked in the first half, and nullified Villa’s chances.

Not one of our players showed up in that second half, we had no one who wanted to grab the game, but they did, that’s why we lost.

Again, with Leonard, you don’t know what shape and fitness he is in. If he had brought on Duffy or Holmes, we would have changed the shape, which CW probably thought would have allowed them more chances as it would be easier to play through the midfield.

Leonard should be in superb shape as should Evans. They’ve played the whole season and RL is a very athletic lad.
I don’t think the Leonard one was medical at all.

.

If the physio said that I'd be tempted to call him a fraud and sack him.

And bringing Lundstram on for him did... precisely fuck all.

We looked much worse.

Give it a rest will yer? Lundstrum is a good player (I don't care what your personal agenda is with him) and it took time for him to acclimatise. He brings a lot to our game plan and has been mom for most of his last half dozen games - just because he wasn't 'Awesome' last night doesn't mean it wasn't the right play. You win some you lose some. Had that wonder goal not gone in you would be creating another thread - about someone/something else. Try to be a little more positive and look at the bigger picture!!!

Other observations from me: Evans and Leonard come from teams in the lower league that do not play the high intensity pressing football that we do. The way we play means all of the players cover masses of ground during a match - they are not static and simply hoof it up field and then stand around until it's hoofed back. All players have the same instructions, press high and quickly, be available for the ball and to make runs forward - then get back. This will have a huge impact on new players. This will take time for any player's body and lungs to get used to. Give it another 3 or 4 games (and training sessions) for Wilson, Evans, Leonard and Holmes and you will see a fantastic midfield click together - no matter who is selected or is on the bench.

Moving on I would say that Stevens needs time off but our only option until the summer is Lafferty. Give Lafferty a go and push Stevens back in there (after his rest) if Lafferty has not took his chance.

Would love another Baldock for the LWB position in the summer. Release a few strikers (poss 3) and bring in a top Championship striker and that will cost £££'s - but we need to gradually improve window on window.

We are not that far of being a regular top 6 team in this league - only 2 or 3 players off imo

As always UTMB

Edit: as an after thought, how about Freeman at LWB when available? Might be worth a go in there.

Are you having a laugh or something?
As you can see, plenty agree with my view on it.

It wasn't the right play to bring him on. Very evidently.

Made no sense at the time. Doesn't make sense now.

Had that goal none in we still wouldn't have won a game we should have won and losing our momentum still would've been the reason for that.

So quite frankly - you're talking bollocks.

Hindsight is 20/20 and all that
Hindsight might be 20/20 but I said it at the time he made the sub too and I'm pretty sure plenty else will have as well.

Baffling at best.

flat midfield 3 (introduced since Coutts’ injury) is why we have dropped a little lately.. someone said back to basics.. usual formation please edgar for coutts

I agree that Lundstram was far better than Leonard last night. I would have kept Evans on and just made the Lundstram/Lenny change.

i don't think CW would have taken Evans off for tactical reasons..

I haven't heard his post match interview yet, but I wonder if he was asked why he took off one of the better performers?

That kind of information would have come from Prestridge and he won't be getting sacked any time soon.

it might just be , we hadnt scored no matter how well wed played up to the subs so CW was trying a different approach
it could be we would have lost with that shot if he hadnt changed it

people should not criticise substitutions without knowing the technical tactical and medical reasons for it
knill is there to help weigh up these factors ,
we made changes to try and win the game , it swung the other way
it happens to far better sides than us

weve lost in every play off final as we didnt take chances or risks
are you saying we should not take risks
