Our Irn Bru wizard is one yellow off a 2-match ban. Our best midfield for Wolves must surely be the same as at Norwich. So can/should we do without him v Villa?

Evans and Leonard looked solid enough at Norwich so we are in a position to protect him.

I think I would rest him, but I don’t think Chris will. I think his attitude is that the squad is now deep enough, so pick the best team and let the depth cope with any consequences.

I completely agree, I think we should rest our best player for this huge game, and with the transfer deadline the day after, maybe sell him, all the strikers, and get George Long back in too

Not sure where you’re coming from TBH.

If anything it’s more important that we get a good result against Villa than Wolves who are out of site. We will need our strongest possible team out tomorrow against a team that we can catch.

Our midfield is NOW really strong in depth.

Don’t think Wilder is overly worried about suspensions in midfield so he’ll play Fleck tomorrow.

The suspension seems an inevitability at some point.

The loss of Coutts and Fleck, for my money the best CM pairing in the division (Maybe Fulham) would have me shaking like a shitting dog a few weeks ago.

With the recent midfield reinforcements added to the squad, I feel a bit more relaxed with the situation.

We have enough strength in depth now to let Fleck play with the freedom he needs. His challenge against Bristol was a definite red but he didn't do it to intentionally hurt the player, he did it because he's whole hearted.

With Lundstrum, Leonard and Evans we've got three good centre midfielders who can all play with or without Fleck. Then you've got Brooks, Duffy and Holmes so there's plenty of bodies for those three midfield roles.

We cant rest him for this game and the good thing is he can play without any mental blocks going into challenges.

In the absence of Coutts he's by far our best player.

Why you'd even consider playing him against a promotion rival beggars belief....

First name on the team sheet (quickly followed by O'Connell, Baldock and Stevens)

I just think that against Villa we will play Duff or Holmes, and so still be very strong with Evans and Leonard behind. Against Wolves I think we need Fleck, Evans and Leonard or we will be over-run. For all that I see an improvement in Lunny he is slow, and a level below the other 3.

As I said I don’t think Chris will do this, and clearly the general opinion on here is that he shouldn’t.

Another interesting issue is that it is pretty likely that Flecky will be suspended by the Cup game on 17th, unless he has missed Wolves and Leeds. In that situation we could be facing Man U or Citeh with only Lunny and Duff available as squad midfielders - and end up with Bash there and Big Ben at the back again. Let’s hope we draw Coventry and get Flecky back for a last 8 game against the big boys with the chance of another Wembley semi.

Villa is a far more important game than wolves.

The referee for the Villa game is Jeremy Simpson..........the last game of ours he reffed was against Brum the 1-1...........the only United player that got booked that game was John Fleck............

Fleck is screwed when he gets his next booking and will serve his 2 game ban. If he carries on, he'll face a disciplinary hearing as he will have 10 yellows and a red to his name.

The cards reset on 1st December (for EFL) and 1st January (EPL), however, that only means if you are below 5 yellows, you don't get a ban at 5 cards - Basham for example collected his 5th Yellow against Sunderland on boxing day and played the next game v Bolton because the cards had reset. He will still be banned for 2 games if he reaches 10.

But to answer the question - Fleck should player regardless. He was suspended when we played Villa away so, he may hold the key to winning the game.

Yep points against Villa are far more valuable than against Wolves, while it’d be nice to get something against both mind

There’s also the chance Brooks is fit for Wolves too

Why don't we go one better and never play him again just in case he gets booked and can't play.

Yes best team needed, Villa game more important than Wolves’ we are all playing for one automatic place imo. Villa better than Leeds so we could beat them without Flreck. Hopefully Fleck won’t get booked

WHAT ! That would be good news, if he’s still our player by Saturday. Thought Brooks was out for months with lurgy ?

Fleck's still got nine games to get through, including some big ones, before the cut-off point for the two-game ban. We're not exactly going to sit him for nine games. Have to play him and what will be, will be. No gimmes in this league. I'd only rest Fleck if he was tired, not to avoid suspension.

Wilder says Brooks back in full time training, medical staff monitoring, some way off ready for 90 mins so won’t be available for Wolves or Leeds

Last I read was that he was aiming for return for the Wolves game https://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/foo...d-1-8966186/amp#click=https://t.co/HvhK94rarf

Has there been that update since?

Literally just seen Wilder interviewed says still recovering but back’in Training. Medical people will advise if he can put 15 -20 minutes off bench, still not possible 90 mins. Unless Wilders pulling a fast one. Don’t want to play him too early and lose him for longer.
