He’s been pushes further down the pecking order now with Wilson, where do you see his immediate and long term future? Personally I think we should send him out on loan for the rest of the season and re evaluate in the summer. Long term I honestly think he’s better of elsewhere I just can’t see him starting and most sensible blades knew this from the start anyway. It was a long shot with him and I can see the thinking of signing someone who’s got a point to prove and argumentativly a debt to pay but he’s been unlucky with injuries and maybe a loan out to a lower league club could restore some confidence.

Been told he’s playing Saturday mate...

Wilder has already stated that he sees him playing a part in the second half of the season. We will be well stocked with 5 strikers but it only takes an injury or loss of form to others and he could be right in there.
Plenty of time for Ched to come good yet

A fit Ched will be like signing a new £10m striker, but unlike Jordan Rhodes, a striker who will score goals.........and step up to take penalties!!!!

As I see it, the situation with Ched is that the better we do, the less we will be in need of him. Our progression under Wilder thus far is rapid, if we continue on our current trajectory we should be challenging for promotion on a consistent basis going forward. Ched is a reasonably astute signing for a club aiming to stay up in the Championship but I'm not sure he's the answer for one challenging at the top end of the table, given his recent injury record and time out of the game. Many would have said the same of Leon Clarke recently though, so who knows?

That said.. GLTTL. I hope he comes good. But my doubts outweigh my confidence on this one.

Wilder has been very effusive in his praise of Ched's ability and future contribution. His favourite phrase is "he's going to be a big player for us". Whether he's proved right or not remains to be seen. When I've seen him earlier in the season, he had a a positive contribution until his ankle started playing up.He looked bigger and better at holding the ball up, without quite having the same explosiveness.

From what I've seen of him so far while injured, once he's fully fit he should be at the very least half decent, he'll get goals. His strength is great and as you say he's good at holding it up, looks comfortable.

He's obviously had pace and fitness issues, and he's said himself I think that he had to pull his shots too so with his ankle sorted and his fitness getting better I can see him playing a part at the sharp end of the season.

Wilder loves players who are hungry with a point to prove Ched is one of those and will be very useful as the run in developes

He's not shown enough yet for any of us to be convinced I don't think.

Even when he was fully fit before he went to prison, he wasn't good enough in the championship so why would he be all of a sudden better now he's not at that level of match fitness and sharpness anymore?

I want him to prove me wrong of course but everytime i've seen him, he's not been as good as any of the other strikers we have

CW and the SUFC both past and present have seen his abilities. I’m surmising CE has seen him in training and in glimpses he has shown some real quality so CW is sticking by him.

He repeatedly says he’s not going out on Loan. I’m sure he will feature more.

But as a poster above said our progress is rapid and the players need to be of the ability we are at now not what we expected at the start of the season.

10 million? I'll have some of what youre smoking mate.

Still fitness is obviously the biggest problem, he hasnt been fully fit since his return in aug 2016. I'm worried his body aint up to it anymore.

name me the last season Ched Evans scored more goals than Jordan Rhodes?

You're both forgetting the Wilder effect.

Leon Clarke ffs.

Not sure it will be like signing a new £10m player...but it will be like getting a new forward for nowt. He'd have to play utter w@nk and be afraid to take a penalty to look like a £10m signing...

Ched Evans was better than Jordan Rhodes in that League 1 season. Contrary to popular belief, strikers can contribute more than just goals.

From what I can surmise from my Wendy mates, this is the main problem with Rhodes. He's a good goalscorer but offers nothing else, and since their style hasn't suited creating such opportunities his "talents" have somewhat been wasted.

Good news if true but can't help think that the club have failed him by not getting him back before now, his operation should have happened a lot sooner.

Am I reading that right? You’re suggesting that the club, who have basically plucked him out of obscurity following a mediocre injury-filled season, handing him a three-year deal, and giving him opportunities to play when he was able to this season, has failed Ched Evans?

Seriously? I can only assume you didn't watch him in L1. He was unplayable. He was on his way to the PL. He was still young. Players improve - it clicked for him that season.

And he had a better goals per game ratio than Rhodes. And was a much better player in almost every other aspect of the game.

We don't know what Ched Evans will turn out to be. We only know that, at his best, he was excellent for us. Whether he can recover anywhere near that form, God knows. But there's only one way to find out and that's to give the lad a chance. We also know another thing as well, Wilder doesn't choose players, or stick with players, for sentimental reasons. The minute it becomes obvious to Wilder that Evans isn't going to cut it, he'll be cut free. So, the fact that Wilder is sticking with him should tell us something. He thinks he's worth sticking with and that's plenty good enough for me.

There's nothing I'd like better than to see Ched firing on all cylinders again. I hope the lad plays tomorrow and gives all of us some optimism that he can still play a big role for us this season. It would be a great boost to the side if could.

Ched Evans cut it in the Championship with Norwich before signing for the Blades.A succession of incompetent managers failed him as they did Sharp. You don't spend big money on a player and play a style of play that they don't flourish in.It was the style of play that suited him under Wilson, more than the division, just as it was the style of play at Donny that suited Sharp. If Ched can get close to the levels he's reached before is anyone's guess.

It’s simple really. If Ched starts firing on all cylinders and is banging in the goals he’ll move up the pecking order and become a first choice. That applies to all the strikers, there’s no such thing as an automatic with Wilder, so there’s no reason why Ched and Billy couldn’t commit Leon and the Don to the bench for the run in or we mix any 2 from 4.

You seem to have missed my sarcasm aimed at Jordan Rhodes, however I still think getting a fit Ched back will add to the squad strength and help the final push!
Plus, CW knows what he's doing and knows what and if Ched can still do it!

When it was announced we were re-signing him before the chezzy game I wasn't best pleased. I said he was a sick note and we didn't need him. So far I've been proved right. My thinking now is if he can get fit for the rest of the season and stay fit, then next preseason we may start to get more out of the lad and he may start the season in a decent state. But, we shall see.
