Coutts Tackle

Except Duffy didn't do the exact same thing?

Neither you or dannysufc_ get it, because presumably you've never played the game.

I assure you, if you'd played adult Football for any length of time, you know exactly what I'm talking about and would have seen it done on more than one occasion :(

But as you say, let's let it go

With all due respect mate, and not commenting on the specific issue of the Coutts injury, this "you've never played the game" stuff adds nowt to your argument. Robbie Savage "played the game" and presumably at a higher level than you, and as a pundit he talks absolute shit. So being an ex-player doesn't give you any special insight at all.

Thought this was going to be a discussion about whose longest in the shower.:eek::eek:

It is an interesting point about the outcome influencing the actual action. I feel there will always be fine lines between what is seen as brilliant and what as brutal. For me, the ref has to determine the intention of the player, and that is made up with many factors, which leads him to his decision?

Whilst I agree, playing football doesn't mean you are an expert pundit or know more about tactics and defensive strategies etc but, with all due respect, it does mean you know about all the little pushes, pulls and well timed nudges that go on throughout the game.

Players are seeking an advantage from the first whistle to the last, by any means possible and the higher standard you play, the more it goes on and the more skilled the practitioners. It is often subtle or disguised and rarely apparent to the spectator. Sometimes it's a 'badly timed' challenge, whilst making a genuine attempt to get the ball

It is what prompted Bill Shankley to remark about referees, that 'They know the rules, but they don't know the game' but then maybe you thought he knew nowt either? ;)

The Coutts injury was a freak accident, not a bad tackle/block.

It's like an unstoppable force meeting an immovable object in that situation.

When I used to play football I always used to pull out of the shot at the last second because it wasn't worth risking the injury.

That just means you are all wrong.
"PLAYING IN A DANGEROUS MANNER

Playing in a dangerous manner is any action that, while trying to play the ball, threatens injury to someone (including the player themself) and includes preventing a nearby opponent from playing the ball for fear of injury."

"SERIOUS FOUL PLAY

A tackle or challenge that endangers the safety of an opponent or uses excessive force or brutality must be sanctioned as serious foul play."

dangerous manner , hardly. What your condoning is no one trying to block shots
all sports carry some danger of physical mishap
I think Sordell is a bit of brute but hes just trying to make himself big to block a shot
Our players do it , the Coutts incident is one of those one in a million where his momentum of swing breaks his leg
if he had put is foot in hard Coutts might have escaped injury

We’ve never played the game because we don’t think that was a red card.

Oreyt pal. Your argument is falling on deaf ears cos you’re talking crap. Leave it.

You clearly haven’t played the game.

We really need to let this go. Yes it f00ked our season up , it might as well have f000ked up us ever getting in the prem , but that's football , we always get the s4it end of the stick but that's part of been a blade after all we're all w4mkers at the lane aren't we !!

Go on then, I'll bite

The way I see it is, Sordell didn't merely 'dangle his leg' in an attempt to block the shot, as suggested by dannysufc_ , if he had Coutts would have received nothing more than a sore shin, bruise at worst.

Sordell was too late to block the shot and he knew it, nevertheless seeing the chance to do an influential opponent, he locked his leg, placed the sole of his foot directly in the line of Coutts shin and let the follow through do the rest.

I assure you he knew exactly what he was doing,
Think you giving Sordell way more ability than he has, he plays at Burton for a reason , his nano second reactions are more like 4 second thinks
to suggest he realigned his foot to do maximum damage propels him up 4 or 5 grades of defender that he will never attain
I can say catagorically he tried to look like a hippo as shown with diagrams in training

I don't think Sordell's was a sending off. Nor was yesterday.

They were just trying to block with a dangling foot, it was actually Coutts right leg going forward with power into Sordell's dangling boot that caused the break.
You can't top players trying to block shots.

don't always agree with you but your 100% spot on this time in my opinion

I don't know how you can still argue this, you're saying it wasn't dangerous even though it broke somebody's leg? And no I am not saying don't block, just don't block in a dangerous manner ie one which is proven to cause serious injury. Fuck me we all saw what it did but you still deny it. And if you want to persist with the Coutts did it to himself argument, it's the same as somebody sticking out a foot to trip somebody, they don't trip themselves up by continuing to run do they?

its a pure accident, in the same way Morgans freindly elbow on Hulme meant to give him a cauliflour ear ended up being a caved in skull

the angle of Hulmes slightly tilted down head below shoulder level caused the damage

Funny you should mention that as that is what I would refer to had you said I only see bad in opponents. Morgan should've been retrospectively banned for that, if you throw your elbow it will cause damage. It only remains for me to remind you, that you are totally off your head justifying injuring people in the name of sport and then declaring it an accident.

Coutts leg caught his , not the other way around , and thats from Coutts

Well clearly it is, I’ve never mentioned the referees response to the incident?

It’s irrelevant, wouldn’t have helped Coutts any, would it? He’d still be out for the season

People kill other people driving in their cars everyday. People die crossing the road.

Whilst incidents like the above are tragic, I don't consider driving to work or crossing the road a deliberately dangerous act.

That's how you can continue to argue that.

Generally when there is an 'accident' it is because somebody has been misbehaving, real unavoidable situations are very, very, very rare. Just like on the football pitch.
Now if you're the sort of person who likes to talk on your phone, whilst speeding, jumping lights and changing lanes without checking your mirrors and still think this is an accident, then I can see why you think football players getting crippled is just an accident.

Paul Coutts himself doesn’t think it’s Sordell’s fault. Nor does nearly anyone on this thread. Why do you?

If you haven’t got the gist of my feelings about this incident by now, I don’t think you are going to.

My views are well documented on both this thread and the previous one. Feel free to read them and if there is sny ambiguity, get back to me and I’ll be happy to clear it up ;)

How is Couttsy incidentally? Do you see him regularly?

Listen to his interview pal.
Thought you already would have since you’re so clued up.

Of course it did ! In the same way that somebody sticks a leg out to trip you up, their leg is static the other leg is moving by that measure the person moving is at fault. But they aren't. Just you're one of those people who either 'doesn't get it', in which case I'm sorry for trying to teach you something beyond your understanding or you're one of those people who won't change your mind irrespective of the evidence placed before you.

Agree Sordells challenge wasn’t going in to injure the the man .. was a genuine attempt for the ball and Coutts leg unfortunately got it he brunt of it following through in ihos legs weakest position .
I broke my Tibia & Fibia when I was 17 when an opponent straight leg legged my standing foot in a challenge ,, in my case went to take the man as it was my standing foot , in Couttsy’s no attempting to block the ball .
I was 9 months in pot & didn’t play for 2 years I hope the string puller is nowhere near same as mine

Listen to his interview pal.

What you seem to have trouble comprehending is, that I am voicing my own opinion. I don't care what anyone, Paul Coutts included, has said about it. They are entitled to an opinion, as are you.

Clearly our opinions differ and neither of us are going to convince the other to change, so shall we leave it at that eh? :)

Imagine my relief at opening this thread and not finding graphic images of said midfielders dangling bits :o

I say it was a sending off. However, assuming it was an accident, it would be nice to have heard an expression of sympathy from the Burton player, whether at fault or not. He’s a cunt.

I certainly haven’t heard Couttsy say that. If I could be directed to the source I’ll listen.
