Dear Chris who can do no wrong... well not the big stuff anyway..

How about getting something done about our corners, they’re wank aren’t they, why cross into the box when it’s a disaster, be better off keeping the players outside the box, quick pass and a player running on and crossing into the box from the edge of the box..

I’m saying take a short corner and the guy coming on whip it in and also, why are players running away from the net and trying to head it back into the net, seen it twice tonight with O’Connell, set them up on the edge of the box, and then they run on to meet the ball at pace.

I’m a little old school but it’s my belief that our corners need working on, running away from goal and heading it back takes all the pace off it, come forward at pace to meet the ball, and if defenders are marking you at a corner and you go out of the box they have to follow you, cross the ball into the space where the player will arrive and he meets the ball, the corners are poor at the best of times, today they were shit, and cost us at least 8 minutes of time wasting from them by turning possession over to a team who have come for a point, like Bolton, who sadly got all three.

I’m not having a pop at wilder even though I’m angry at Clayton coming of for mr Man Utd who did fuck except make it that clarke had to do his pressing while he strolled about....ahem.. but corners worry me...anybody else.?

It baffles me how many people around me go mad when we waste corner after corner, yet when we try something like a short one or something different, they immediately groan and moan even louder for not doing exactly what they've just been moaning about.

Well I’m confused, when was the last time we scored from a corner... and we have shitloads..

Same with the tippy tappy shit in the corner that takes 5 minutes to get the ball in the box. Baldock to Fleck to Clarke to Lundstram to Fleck to Basham to out of play.

Be quicker/slicker Blades, we are sussed out with this now.

I agree its something that certainly needs looking at. Its not like we’ve a team full of midgets or nobody who can deliver a dead ball. But you get to a point where after the 9th corner of the game is again either caught by the goalie or doesnt beat the 1st man that maybe trying something different has to be worth a try. We do try to be inventive from free kicks, so why not come up with a few new corner routines?

Totally feel privileged for the management team we have but this needs sorting because a lot of teams come for a point now, and it’s gotta be worth ten minutes a game turning over possession like this at corners, either with winning the ball back or timewasting...it’s costing us...just my opinion..

Agreed totally. Its not a massive criticism, far from it. But we spend so much time pressing in the final third, looking to get a cross or a killer pass through, we’re bound to get our fair share of corners. Its just very frustrating to work so hard on everything else but be lacking a bit when it comes to reaping the rewards of our continued pressure. It might sound daft, but I feel far more dangerous when we get a throw in somewhere down the last 15/20 yards and turn that into a cross or run into the box than I do when we get a corner!

Don’t understand why we float corners in, just ping them in and hope someone get some on the end of it.

The irony is we've got a bevy of 6ft players and a craftsman like DUFFY taking them.

However, it's a running joke with us about how poor our corners are! And they really are shite...

Surely law of averages says hanging the ball up there and having OConnell, Clarke, Basham, Stearman attack it - would create at least one goal???

We’ve been saying the same for a while now we need to do some work on them , we’ve got some big lads who can attack the ball but we seem to opt for the floated delivery . Doesn’t necessary have to pick out one of ours some times even an accurate in swinger can cause havoc amongst defenders / keeper Important part of the game what lots of teams exploit , agree we need to improve on these .

To be honest I hate our short corners, unfortunately our crossed corners are even worse!
That's something that really needs working on, it's not like we are even a small side anymore.

Crosses in general are not good....low and to defenders...also try getting a few in quicker lads, if nothing else to mix things up and keep the opposition guessing

How many tight games are often won by a good setpiece or a header from a corner? Loads. We really must improve on this. Could be the difference between mid-table and making the play offs.

According to Kevin Gage, we have had 160 corners, only Brentford have had more, but scored from just three.

Made some other comments on the other corners and will add more later.

Could do with merging the two

Bergen Blade any thoughts and analysis on the corners aspect?

I agree we don't look threatening. The delivery is one thing, but I'm not sure our aerial ability is great either. Maybe we realise this, as we do try to create situations where one of our players can get away from his marker (rather than aiming for a player that we think have a good chance of beating his marker). The routines are not as random as they can seem, but it is difficult to get the timing right and the delivery accurate. Nevertheless, the stats show that we're not good enough at this at the moment.

We set up like this for our two first corners:

Skjermbilde 2018-01-13 22.41.02.png

Going for the penalty spot on the first (cleared), then the hard low ball which Basham completely miskicked. The latter could have been dangerous.
The third one was a short corner, where we ended up trying to short-pass our way into the box, but it didn't work and looked a waste.
The fourth came from Duffy from the left side, an in-swinger which was cleared by Joao at the first post. Duffy failed to get enough height on this one, as our big players were attacking the back post.

2nd half:
First another too loose strike from Duffy, as we set up to give Stearman a free header at the back post. O'Connell (the blocker) ended up winning it in the air, but couldn't direct his header well.
Then a similar with Stearman and O'Connell switching roles. Too loosely hit by Duffy and claimed easily by the goalkeeper.
Third, a quick, short ball to Fleck who raced on to it into the box, but his cross was blocked. Seemed to take them by surprise a bit
Fourth, a harder ball in. Not quite sure what the plan was, possibly a flick on at the first post (too high for that). Cleared by a them at the first post.

So this was eight different routines that didn't go quite as we hoped. Duffy didn't have a great day and will be disappointed with his deliveries.

What makes our corners more frustrating is the fact that we are so creative with our free kicks. A real joy to watch whenever we get a free kick in the final quarter.

Short corners should be a sin.

Our corner-takers just haven't the power/strength to bang em in like Woodward ....should be embarrassed when you consider today's ball's are lighter.
We are completely impotent from corners.

Maybe we should simplify it, and put our players in positions to pick up second balls.

If we're floating them have a right footer taking it from the right and vice versa. It's a better angle to come onto the ball when delivering like that, and it's more likely to stay away from the keeper.

Avoid the keeper with the delivery.

Avoid the first man.

Get your best 2 headers coming onto the ball to attack it.

Have at least 1 covering the area beyond the far post so over hit deliveries aren't wasted.

Put someone quite big and strong on the keeper.

Get 2 around the edge of the box on either side in prime areas to pick up second balls.

And I don't mind short corners either. Just got to avoid messing about with it for too long before delivering.

To be fair, I'd be happy to see them take short corners if 'normal' ones weren't working because it shows an intelligence to recognise a problem and provide an alternative solution
