Reserves? It might not be your strongest 11, but 10 of the envisaged starters are capped at u20 and above. You've certainly not had to pull in players from the meadowhall league in the clothes they wore last night in naps and a hangover.

I'm sure your team of 'reserves' will be more than prepared, just as our team that had one fit striker, just back from injury (Clarke) were for the Bouncing Day Massacre. I'm sure it will be a cracker and personally, I am as nervous as the next man. Any supporter of either team that is brimming with confidence before this game is naive.

Do you reckon Hutchinson's time might just be up? He arrived following a catalogue of injury problems and despite having a couple of good seasons, seems to be out injured a lot again. I heard that his knees are f*cked.

I just couldn't believe all the money you'd spent on strikers (one of which is now loaned to Derby) when it was obvious that it was centre back that needed strengthening. It also meant trying to shoehorn two strikers into the side and moving Forestieri out to the wing, which not only upset the player but unbalanced the team and went from playing a way that worked with Forestieri behind the front man to a way that clearly doesn't. Carlos lost the plot at that point if you ask me.

I'm not sure about Hutchinson; a lot of players have been rushed back too early, which is one of the reasons the club has such an injury crisis. That could be a reason for his current absence, although you're right to say that sooner or later his number will be up.

The pickle Wednesday are in in my opinion is because of confusion at the outset what the objectives were. Chansiri wanted entertainment, then he decided that he wanted pragmatism, as that was more likely to lead to promotion. The snag is that Wednesday didn't really possess the sort of players needed for the later. They'd a decent keeper and CB, but that's about it. They'd have needed three defenders and a colossus in the middle for the conservative approach. Carlos covered up, because he was wary of the team's shortcomings in those areas, which meant that the forwards you speak of couldn't be fully engaged.

Carlos did lose the plot, but I'm not sure he had full control of signings, like Tufty has for instance. It's the only explanation for why you'd play pragmatically and make completely illogical signings to play it.

True, and they obviously haven't been doing their jobs properly.

Carlos believed in having two to three players for every position, rather than have a smaller, fitter squad.

The snag is that you have players more prone to injury, there's constant swapping and changing which affects cohesion, performances and team spirit, and the money you spend on players is more thinly spread.

Difficult to say. I read that Liverpool used just 16 players over 42 games when they won the League in 1972/73 and Aston Villa used just 14 when they won the League in 1980/81. Wont happen again!
