It is two years since we made this round, when we lost at Old Trafford in a brave but dull performance.
My fondest 3rd Round memory has to be Ryan Flynn scoring a late winner in front of 6000 jubilant Blades fans at Villa Park in 2014. We hadn't been doing well and that win was totally unexpected. Maguire still has Benteke in his back pocket!
We haven't had a home draw in this round since 2012, a comfortable 3-0 win against Salisbury, who were just happy to have made it that far.
My memories of home ties in the 3rd Round are less happy. Losing 2-1 at home to Colchester in our promotion season 2006, our one opportunity to see the unforgettable Haidong! Warnock didn't have much of an interest in the cup and we were humiliated 3-0 at home to League One Swansea season during our Premiership season the following year.

Yep, Villa away springs to mind. At that point, I didn’t think we would be playing Villa in a league game for another 20 years. How wrong was I?

Home tie against Everton January 1970.

The very first game of the 1970's.

A 2-1 victory and as a 14 year old I felt life couldn't be better and that this decade was going to be the best ever.

Well I was half right.

Although I wasnt at the match but watching the highlights of the natch on tv the next day started my love for the Blades and became a Lane regular from the next home game (v Preston)

1989 Colchester at home.Being really fucked off at being 2-1 down and deciding to leave early.
Missed most of the 3-3 draw, listening to the goals going in as I walked down John St
Taught me never to leave early again, cos you never know what's going to happen...

Always puzzles me why people leave early, I remember Newcastle fans leaving when they were 4-0 down to Arsenal. They got it back to 4-4 and they missed a classic.

Or being a Man U fan at the Neu Camp.."They're not going to do owt now.Let's get off early to beat the rush..."

My early days as a young Blade involved us basically been shite in the FA Cup , my first season 77/78 we got hammered 5-0 at The Lane by Arsenal I think Cec Coldwell was in temp charge ,we followed that up with exits in FA Cup to the likes of Aldershot & Altrincham
Games I really remember we didn’t win again but actually put in two brave performances, in 82/83 we,d just come up out of the 4th as Champons and Porterfield tried to add a few to many faces to a side that would have done well without half of them ( fkg inexplicably bringing king pig Curran here WTF was that all about ???? ) , anyway I digress the team massively under performed that season but after a good away trip to Boston in the previous round we drew Stoke from the top division .
Stoke probably brought 6000 we actually turned up and played that day but it ended 0-0 but could have gone either way and was set up nicely for the replay.
It was my first visit to the Victoria ground & I went along with another 5000 noisy Blades , brilliant atmosphere & we played well ultimately dipping 3-2 but for once gave me my first good FA Cup memory .
In years to come we became a good cup side with some very fond memories & obviously heartache , I hate the way the FA Cup has now become non entity , anybody from generation always looked forward to the 3rd round draw and often it pulled in higher than average attendances , and every football supporter wat he’d the FA Cup final & all the build up irrespective of who was in it and was played as a stand alone fixture after the league season finished not at 5 o’clock in between adverts as it is now .
Sadly that sums up was one of the iconic fixtures of the football calendar .

I agree that it is sad to see the FA Cup lose its status. I loved yesterday's Merseyside derby, great atmosphere, capacity crowd and both sides had a strong line up.

Ipswich at home is my most prevailing memory. I seem to remember Michael Brown scoring a hat-trick but that might be nonsense. He scored a good goal though, I think.

Watford away with that Dads Army team. Freezing cold, frozen pitch, lost 5-0 and we were lucky to get nil. Topped off by the lamentable 'Rorkes Drift' comment by Burridge after the game.

We can talk about the FA Cup losing all its romance but it all depends upon who you are drawn against and what stage of the cup you've reached and your own position in the league.

Today's game at Ipswich offers very little romance and yet our trip to Old Trafford two years ago did. Similarly our trip to Wembley in 2014 was memorable and no one could argue that those games against Forest and Charlton were two of the best atmospheres experienced at BDTBL for many a year and were a glimmer of light in those 6 seasons in League 1.

If we win today and draw Man City in the next round then we'll all agree there's still romance left in the old competition.

(BTW if Chris Wilder had been in charge when we played Man Utd we would have stuffed them. They were very poor but we offered nothing as an attacking force that day.)

Deano's hat trick against Ipswich as well

Norwich away under Bassetts boys was a memorable day/weekend.
That and the 2-3 defeat at Stoke in the 3rd Rd in 1983 and two of the best blades performances I’ve seen in games that we lost. We were so unlucky that day

It was the 4th round and brown scored two, but other than that, pretty good!!
We went 3-0 up and then Ipswich scored 3 in 6 minutes, only for Pesch to bag a last minute winner. Great game, but strictly speaking, it's a 4th round 'memries'

For five points, who did we play in the 3rd Round that year? (no googling!)

I used to watch the Triple Assault religiously as a kid, I remember both cup runs (a geek I know)

FA cup was 4-0 against Cheltenham I believe, then Ipswich, Walsall in r5, Leeds in quarters and Arsenal in semis

Worthington cup was Wycombe? York, Leeds, Sunderland, palace, Liverpool I think

Like I said, I'm a geek - 5 points please!

My first 3rd round game was Burnley at home in 1993. We looked awful from what I remember were losing 0-2 only to bring it back to 2-2, win the replay and go all the way to Wembley...

The fans were superb that day. I remember us singing “Were all gonna Wemberley” even at 5-0 down. Graham Taylor was gushing with praise for our supporters afterwards. Shame Utd were just utterly shite

I remember jumping up a nd down with loads of other Blades and making loads of noise, but I'm sure most were just trying to get warm like we were. :)
