How I see it is Say Fleck is out of contract in the summer we are in and around the Play Offs, would we let him go for £700k in Jan and cost us a Play Off place or do we keep him in the hope he can and will see us over the line and lose him for free once he's done his job, maybe he will even sign a deal after all?

Think you are reading too much into this to be honest, Literally just putting it in a context that some blades could relate to, United = Southend and Fleck = Leonard , leonard being as important to Southend as Fleck is to United. if I had said Carruthers then this surely down plays Leonard importance to Southend?

Don’t think his style allows him to be a stand out player that often.
He’s more of a bread and butter high energy box to box midfielder, good in the tackle and a leader with a good attitude.
He’s a Carlton Palmer type and like Lundstrum, nother one who is captain material.

So he’s probably going to be underwhelming, a slow burner that mainly gets appreciated when he’s out of the team.

He drives forward at pace with the ball - so probably nearest to the Irn Bru Wizard. Fine alongside Fleck, Lunny or Coutts though - not in a Duffy role.

He’s a defensive mid, with a great engine, decent speed, so can also get up the field when needed.
He’s a bit of an all rounder with potential to be a good player and quite versatile.
Seems he has a great attitude too and always gives 100%. Should be a decent signing but don’t expect him to be a world beater.
