The way we play we should see Baldock, Stevens and O'Connell weighing in with a fair number of assists.

No, I’m not aware that they bother collecting such a stat. There are loads of passing stats, average passes per game, completed passes, key passes that lead to a shot, through balls, crosses. I find them quite illuminating about our players.and not the killer pass before the assist unfortunately
'Assists' are the final passes which create the goal.
So one of the best goals I've ever seen (Pesch v Forest, play-off semi second leg in 2003) would count as an assist by Paddy Kenny as he was the last player to pass before Pesch took 7/8 touches to score?
It's all getting silly. The latest is 'Expected Goals'.

"Assists" actually only ever come from Americans.
How many does CCV have ?
The stats should include the assists that result in missed open goals and hitting the woodwork
If you look at passing stats they do. They’re called Key Passes ie those that lead to a shot. The stats should include the assists that result in missed open goals and hitting the woodwork
Yes, creative players can have their stats ruined by profligate strikers or enhanced by prolific ones. I read a good article on how Siggurdsson's stats were skewed by Llorente's effectiveness in the air, particularly at set pieces. Essentially all he had to do was stick the ball on Llorente's head and he scored. The stats should include the assists that result in missed open goals and hitting the woodwork
