Just to make sure we don't concede and we have a chance of scoring on the break (Arsenal style!!!)

Kenny
Walker Morgan Killa Naughton

Monty

Cotts Hendrie Howard (yes that Howard) Webber

Ward

Cotts and Webber to push on when we have the ball, save the big men for if we are desperate. This would (should) mean we play along the floor and fast. Preston have good central defenders and high balls will be meat and drink to them. Howard isn't a bad player we just bypass him too much.

any thoughts

looks good V. I agree with the strategy, but wonder if Ward by himself might not have enough about him physically to make enough of an impact?

I'd play :

Kenny

Walker Morgan Kilgallon Naughton

Cotterill Monty Hendrie Halford

Henderson Lupoli

Back 5 has to stay the same, we've not got enough fit players anyway but we look ok at the back.

The midfield looks ok also, but I think with Hendrie in the side he'll show for the ball and take more pressure of Montgomery when he wins the ball back. He can play the 5 yard pass to Hendrie who can then look to spring an attack with his passing ability and all round knowledge of the game. Plus, he's not afraid to have a shot from distance which is something we lack in my opinion.

Ward seems to be better when he comes off the bench, and I think Lupoli is more likely to get a goal from nothing than he is. Nothing against Ward, I'd just prefer Lupoli. Ward's a better impact player to have a go at a tiring defence. Henderson has to play with the tactics Blackwell plays, because he's the only one likely to win anything.

There will be snowflakes in hell before Blackwell drops Quinny, personally I would like to see Halford given a go in the middle, I think he is wasted out wide

I'd go with the line-up Daz suggested, but I also agree with Ian1889 that there is no chance of Small Quinn being dropped. Personally I'd drop him in favour of anybody, including Edna the tea lady.

Edna is out injured.

She sat on her spout by mistake....well we think it was a mistake!

:D:D:D

Fatty Foulkes
Nudger Needham, Jo Shaw, Eddie Colquoun, Grahame Shaw
Billy Gillespie, Trevor Hockey, Micheal Brown, Jimmy Hagan
Tony Currie, Brian Deane.

:D

I wouldn't change that too much.

Maybe add Len Badger and have Hodgy instead of the chubby youth! Then again Mick Jones should be playing, and where the hell is Woody and Derek Pace? And why no Jags? Gil Reece would give better left-sided balance.

Forget the first comment, Sheepdip out! Sheepdip Out! Sheepdip Out!
Shoes off...... :D :D

I would stick to the usual other than swapping Quinny & Monty The Pantomine Horse for Hendrie & O'Toole.

I cannot understand why Hendrie isnt starting every week, he is by far our best midfielder and tries harder then anyone (even Monty).

I really like Ward but I would be tempted to play Lupoli with him, I know Blackie likes a big striker but i just dont think its needed.

I know you'll not like this becuase you all love 100% Blade Monty - but him being a proffesional footballer (not just runner) is a joke.

SBSP - a certain Mr Patrick Vieira once said how hard Nick Montgomery is to play against. That coming from once one of the best players in the world shows Monty is definitely worthy of being a professional footballer.

I would also like to see Hendrie given a chance, but apart from a couple of good cameo's, previously he hasn't performed. So I'm not quite sure how anyone can call him our best midfielder.

I think Viera was mis-quoted.

He actully meant it would be very difficult to play on the SAME team as him.

Suprises me how people can still bash Monty with how he has played the second half of this season and been an integral part of our excellent run.

Monty can play football, Monty can pass, Monty can definitley tackle.
Just some people refuse to see that and pass judgement on him before the whistle has gone for the start of each and every match.

You say we'll not like it because we love Monty - you may be right - but in reverse you won't like what I say beacuse you hate Monty.

I'd rather have a midfield of Monty's putting 100% effort in all match than other players who play when they feel like it and can't be bothered to track back and do the dirty bits of the game like helping out the defence as and when needed.

I gave him a chance when he first started playing.

I give him a chance when evry week when he is picked.

Then usually 5 mins in he has fucked up a few times and its back to normal.

I admit he has been better the last few months, but he is still not good enough.

And as for being able to pass and tackle.........

If you mean pass the opposition and foul their player trying to win back the ball he has lost - your spot on.

I could (and did) have predicted you would say that.
Try watching him, he's set up quite a few very good moves with very good passes this season.
If you go in for tackles (which Monty mostly win's), you tend to give fouls away. And whats worse - giving a foul away in the middle of the park or letting a midfielder/attacker run free at the defence with the ball at his feet?

Monty does his job very well for the most part (every player makes bad passes, some get noticed more than others) when he isn't in the team we look vunerable at the back as no one is there to stop attacks before they develop.
Monty no.1 pick for me every week.

Some subs might be in order, mind you.

Alan Hodgkinson, Cec Coldwell, Tommy Hoyland, Harry Johnson, Bobby Davison.

Bobby 'Hellsbore' Davison I hear you cry? The logic is simple. He had the best job at the Lane ever. Occasionally train, and get on the bench, so that's the basic wages sorted then. Come on in the 89th minute, so gets his appearance fee. Scores two, so gets the goal bonus, and probably a win bonus at that .

What did you think of him at that time?

He was ok for a youth, but like every other young player I expected him to improve.

But this has not happened, he has learnt one pass (outside of boot) which he now tries everytime he gets the ball.

Nothing against him but he just isn't good enough.

I agree monty has been in great form the back end of this season and should still be in the team, but playing monty with quinn is no good. Quinn should be dropped and hendrie should be given a go.
Monty can play the defensive role of retrieving the loose balls in front of the defence but then give hendrie more space to make runs and pass the ball out to the wings. One thing that is for certain is that Hendrie has not been given a fair chance this season as when he has played (very little), he has done reasonably well and we are more of a threat going forward. The goals have dried up of late, we need to get a bit more creativity in the team (not quinny's little tap-ons all the time).

James Beattie still leads our shot count, which tells it's own story for me.[/QUOTE]

I think we still miss him, yes we play more as a team, Henderson did start well, and he gets a lot of kicks/holds/pushed etc off defenders but he can't make a goal out of nothing like Beattie could

Little quinny is still our leading goal scorer from our active players.

Little Quinny barely misses a match. His time played against goals scored ratio doesn't stack up against someone such as Lupoli. Not that I'm suggesting Lupoli should play in his place, but I'm just saying that there are other players who haven't played as many minutes as he has.

Monty and Quinn playing in front of the back four are a big reason we are so hard to score against. Quinn's goals are a bonus. I expect to see O'Toole added to the midfield rather than drop Quinn. I wonder if Halford has been carrying a knock and will be the one to drop out. As to subs, Blackwell can see them all week in training and has a better handle on whether they have anything extra to offer.

We would have got 2 in the league no probs with beatts, we got ward and loanie beattie. Second class i think.. Why we get rid of beattie when we knew we`re getting this money from wham. Crazy
