I hope you’re right, but I am a little bit concerned that there’s a hint of needing to play him to justify the money spent – a la Akinbiyi being selected over the consistently effective Shipperley back in 2006.
I hope it’ll be more like the Clarke situation, where this time last year he looked less effective than the players he was replacing yet it was clear Wilder wanted to get him in a starting role. That has ultimately turned out ok, but took I’ve no doubt far longer than CW had intended.
Yes, I understand what you say. I am not suggesting that RS has been outstanding. He hasn’t. Injury hasn’t permitted it for a start. The spiteful and juvenile attitude of some towards him, an accomplished pro and an acknowledged leader on and off the pitch, based on little more than that they prefer their own favourite, I find despicable I’m afraid.
As for Leon, I would argue that ‘ok’ is faint praise indeed!
