And to think I won't walk 15mins to get the tram from manor top to meadowhall :D

Fuckin' Fairies these modern day footballers! Alf "nutty slack" Needham used to deliver coal up to midnight on Xmas Eve, have a few pints of Gilmours with a barley wine chaser to relax and in the morning after he'd run round the yard to catch and kill the pig his Missus would do him boiled trotter with crackling before he caught tram to t'Lane for t'game. If it were an away game he'd run to t'game and his Missus would boil him a gammon for when he got back.

Was in the 2-1 win at Grimsby in 1958.

Last one at the Lane was the 2-0 win against Lincoln in 1956.

My dad said he would walk from Dronfield to Meadowhead and catch the tram to the Lane from there

When do you reckon our next Christmas Day match will be? ... give Sky Sports a year or two and they'll sort it ;)

I remember reading in our programme once that if Christmas Day fell on a Thursday, we'd play three consecutive days; Christmas Day/Boxing Day/Saturday.

I’d love us to have a one off match on Christmas Day. As long as we win anyway

I thought that Christmas Day matches were still happening early 1960s ?

No wonder the porcine hate us so much after what Alf used to do to em.....
:D

Back in the day people didn’t have extensive holidays and so Christmas Day matches were a real money spinner. Football special buses ran from Blonk Street, which is a laugh really as it’s only a short hop from our bus at Bridge Street. Dad had a free bus pass as he was wounded in the war so that might account for the journey. He also lifted me over the turnstile until I was 11.

I’m nostalgic for all these old football traditions. Kids going up chimneys and down mines, all milk delivered to your door, whistling postman, jumpers for goalposts. At school we used to,play football with a stone, didn’t head the fucker though ! We were hard in tho.. / them days. I’m sure gay people didn’t exist then, now it’s compulsory ! What’s the world coming to ?
