It was never going to be as easy as just replacing Coutts

I think Lundstram is a decent player and deserves a chance to develop.
He looks comfortable on the ball and will continue to improve his effectiveness with 1st team game time.
My point is though, that whoever came in would need time to get the mid three working together as before.
Our previous midfield 3 developed and honed an understanding through playing together for the best part of a season and a half and knew each other's game in a way that can only develop over time.
I'd go as far as to say, if we'd have disrupted our midfield by losing either Duffy or Fleck, we would still have had a major change to deal with regardless of who would have replaced them.
When we are at our best, Coutts, Fleck and Duffy all have great games.
I wouldn't screw up the game plan just yet.
Maybe mix it up a bit more from time to time if certain teams do seem to have have sussed us out, but a back 3 has served us well before and I don't see why it won't serve us well again.

The manager has and will continue to change Duffy as and when required.

I do not believe he has changed Coutts or Fleck out of choice.

There lies the problem that the management team has to overcome.

The danger is that our top of the league has just now become 4th.

Action of some sort is needed.........over to you CW as the post match at Millwall suggested.

Wright was a big miss today, because as one of the players told me.. he keeps a tight unit and marshalls the troops, keeps them close and compact allowing them to cover each other.
Coutts being a big miss is compounded by not having a wing back. Coutts is generally more right sided and that side of the pitch has just been decimated by injuries.

We just need to get a couple of players back and get to January. Anyone having a wobble just needs to remember where we have come from in 18 months and trust that these players and coaches will work it out. (not that 3 games is a mass panic for me)

I keep saying this but we will look a miles better side when Baldock is fit.

But we need to sort the back 3 out too.

Totally agree with this. Think the back 3 sorts itself once we're not having to farm Bash out to wing back.

baldock back friday (fingers crossed)

then back 5 imo is the strongest as

baldock bash wright JOC Stevens

that will make a massive difference , far better /stable and more mobile at the back and going forward with Bash back in his best role and baldock flying down the right

all being well that will be the back 5 , Lundy, Fleck and Duff in Mid and Leon and Billy upfront

after we get back to this team and the right balance and if we are still off then we could poss question the formation /loss of coutts etc but only after this back 5 are all back

onwards and upwards !!

We need to get back to O'Connell/Wright/Basham. It's perfectly balanced. Stearman would only replace Wright. CCV, Bash.

yep - get back to being solid and dependable - let the other 7 in front of them get the plaudits.

Edit........and VASTLY improve the crosses into the box - they have been poor.

We need Baldock back ASAP.

All our attacking is down the left side and its predictable.

Agreed on that. Stevens has been so wasteful last few weeks but so has Duffy (goal apart today)

Indeed - that was my main point of disappointment - Stevens is decent, but he has to be more creative when crossing or the management get players getting in front of defenders in the box. Keith Edwards might get on the tits of some, but he is spot on about getting across defenders.

The current seaon ended when Coutts got done for the season, thats my take.

A new season is upon us and we will just have to get on with the job and find a way to improve results.

Thank fuck we had that un expected fabulous start and gained all those vital points.
Bang on the money. Yet if you’d have said that 3 games ago you’d have been slated.

Fair points there. It was going to be difficult keeping up the results when Couttsy was playing. Unfortunately, page after page of analysis, will not change the problems the team has. Only Messrs CW and AK, and the team buckling down and playing as they were before, showing the right attitude, closing teams down and not this constant nightmare of giving the opposition a wonder goal, will get the team out of its current problems.

Stevens has become oddly dithering when he gets forward. Instead of playing balls in he tends to faff around with it and overplay, allowing defences to get back into shape. I'm not sure why.

He does need dropping and needs a massive kick up the backside...

It's not a massive kick up the arse he needs at all . He's a 19 year old loanee playing in a team , position and system he hasnt played in before . He's also covering a role in place of our most accomplished RCB in a defence that's lost its 2 RWB's . A defence that's even more unbalanced as we've also lost one of our best midfielders who sat deep and always provided an easy pass to our defence when under pressure .

CCV isn't shit , he doesn't need a kick up the arse and he doesn't need sections of our fan base slating him for anything and everything he or the team do wrong .

When Basham gos back to RCB and CCV gets dropped its not because he's absolute dog shit and certainly not because you called it right . It's because that's the natural order of things in our defence when everyone's fit .

We don't have a replacement for Coutts who can play the exact same 'scrum half' role, and he was always going to be one of the hardest to lose long term.

That said I'm afraid I can't be doing with the wo is me attitude of some. Injuries are part and parcel and we have other talented players and good prospects. We also have a transfer window fast approaching.

Please keep your nerve and give people the chance they deserve.
