I know most of the talk at the moment is surrounding the Fulham game and Coutts' injury, but, I was just thinking about what the lineup for Saturday could look like IF Baldock is back in action, we could be looking at a back 3 of O'Connell, Basham & Wright, this really fills me with confidence.

I have seen a few mentions of moving Basham into Midfield to replace Coutts, personally I would relish a back 3 of the above, and I have faith in Lundstram/Carruthers to fill the role, but what are your thoughts?

Either bring Stearman back or persevere with CCV. Wright is not up to it at this level, too slow.

I think it's time for Stearman to come back in.

Basham Stearman O'Connell is what I want to see.

Really hope Baldock's back. We need him more than ever now with Coutts being out. We need all the quality we can get over on the right side of the pitch. This would also see Basham back in his influential RCB role.

^totally agree - Baldock returning effectively is like 2 players coming back because not only have we got a natural RWB but we have Bashambauer back to his best

I don't think Baldock will start, so Basham will continue as RWB
Then Stearman, Wright and JOC at the back

I would go O'Connell, CCV and Basham if Baldock is back. A couple of mistakes from CCV doesn't wipe out all the good stuff he's done this season. He's only 19 and still learning but including him on saturday would hopefully remove any confidence dip he's suffering as a result of last night. He'll be determined to put those right.

I'm hoping Birmingham will suffer a backlash on saturday, looking forward to it:)

It’ll be Stearman or Wright rather than both together – both are vying for the middle of the three, and I suspect this might be the moment for Stearman to be given his chance.

^^^^ - This.
I do feel a bit for CCV given his youth & desire to do well - but he had a howler last night and for me it was bad enough to earn him a place on the bench, especially when the competition is as fierce as it is from Stearman & others.
Baldock tightens up that right side & his partnership with Bash is missed.
UTB's.

I'm not sure, CCV seemed to have a shocker and can't see Basham moving back just yet as Baldock hasn't even made the bench yet

Centre halves should be

O’Connell, left of the 3
Carter-Vickers, central
Basham, right of the 3

Carter-Vickers has generally been impressive, so would be wrong to drop anyone based on 1 game.
Agree Wright, doesn’t have enough pace against small tricky CC standard players.
Against slower teams that tend to cross it into the box then Wright is fine.

Think we’ve missed Baldock on the right wing, he’s quick and tricky and is a big threat.

Harsh on Wright, from where I sit, directly looking in line with the back 3, Wright always seems to command the defense, this could be rose tinted glasses from last season but I don't think Wright look slow or out of place at this level.

One big positive from all of this is that young Jack O'Connell is getting to play next to some great leaders. should mould him into an absolute diamond of a CB.

Basham / Wright / JOC was our best 3 in League One, it’s been our best 3 this year.

We need to get back to that on Saturday.

CCV’s ideal in the middle, as he seems to struggle to get forward as much as Basham does from that RCB position. It was noticeable against Hull - the first time he seemed to go over the halfway line was when he crossed for Leon’s first goal.
Pray for Baldock back sooner rather than later, because it’ll just allow the system to ‘click’ back into place.

CCV will be feeling it today after last night. A little spell on the sidelines away from the front line will allow him to settle down again and move on without the pressure of playing again in 3 days. Bring in Stearman for Wright who has looked a little shaky too, and put Bash back to the right of the three if Baldock is fit again.

Something being beyond you
Go on then, what in my post was wrong exactly? Enlighten me?

Were you at Cardiff? Stearman was tortured by their pacy front 3... So much so he ended up pulling a hamstring.
He's no improvement on Wright, if you think so fair enough but you're wrong.

What you need to learn is not to take something as a personal affront when someone has a different opinion to you. Your posts need to be a little less aggressive and abrasive. If you do go down this route you need to introduce a little subtlety. Our friend Tyler D might be able to advise you in this respect. Or you may just try to grow up.

Baldock gives us balance that Bash doesn't. He also gets up and down that right-hand side like a proper wing-back. Bash is perfectly suited to a back 3 giving him the opportunity to step out with the ball. I'd say Baldock was a bigger miss last night than Coutts.

Not a different opinion though is it, it's just bollocks saying that Wright isn't up to this level after one bad performance.

And I beg you tell me why Stearman is a better player and option than Wright? You say Wright is too slow, and we should replace him with Stearman... Have you even seen Stearman?!

Wilder will stick with CCV. It’s one bad game, or one bad mistake which destroyed his confidence. Dropping him from the team will only worsen the situation IMO and Wilder is very loyal to his players so I suspect he will back him and keep him in the side.

A back 3 of JOC, CCV and Basham hopefully.

Tend to agree with dannysufc_ here.

Nobody was saying Wright wasn't good enough at this level before last night and I don't feel I could attribute any of the blame for the goals towards him.

Granted he's not exactly a long term option, but considering we had joint second best defence in the league before last night, I'd keep it as is.

UNLESS Baldock is back.

Probably depends on how they train and what CCV is like. Sometimes it's better to take kids out of the firing line for a couple of games, sometimes, as you say, you have to show faith in them. We don't know CCV, what type of character he is or how he's feeling right now, CW does and will do whatever he thinks is right for the team and the player, in that order.

He played for 35 mins at Cardiff before going off injured with the score 0-0.
