Really liked this lad ever since he played against us for Shrewsbury and when he came to the lane with Brentford he was MOM for me.

He can cover right back and can control the midfield. We need another Midfielder IMO. the current pairing of Coutts and Fleck is best I've seen at the lane, and Lundstram has show he is capable of deputising too, my concern is if we lose one for any period of time we don't have the number we need. CW has shown he wants 2 players for every position and at the minute we only have 3.

In addition he is good enough to compete for a place rather than just cover, future PL player IMO. and Brentford seem to be selling players too.

took this from his wiki

"Shrewsbury Town manager Micky Mellon as saying "he's the first player on the training pitch and the last off. He's a terrific kid and has some unbelievable ability".

100% agree. Cracking player. Whether we can afford him (rather would the board shell out) is a different matter.

Yes, I recall Woods playing at fullback for Shrewsbury, very impressive then and he's continued the same impressive form now that he's at Brentford. We've had plenty of players pinched from us, so I've no pangs of guilt about doing the same to other clubs. Woods would certainly contribute to Wilder's ethos of hard work and quality play.

If we carry on as we are I think Wilder will have a blank cheque book come January to bring in whoever he sees fit. and by blank cheque book I don't mean football manager type nonsense but if he says I need £3m for Woods and and Sinclair on loan I cannot see the club saying no, he has most certainly earned their trust.

Yes very impressed with Woods and we could probably get him for an affordable fee and wages. But knowing CW/AK they may have already identified the next Woods and we'll get that player for nothing and turn him into a great player.
Can't see us signing Sinclair. He had his chance and blew it. Don't think Wilder will ever forgive him and there will be other players around. Anyway he would hardly have got a game and would just have hindered Brooksy's path to the first team.

Be a definite signing for me.

Me too. Can't go wrong with a player like him. Age, ability, and versatility all on his side. Good attitude too I think. A Wilder type. One of the better players in the Championship at the absolute minimum. Sensible sort of signing to make.

If this would be a realistic possibility then I'd make him a top priority. With the way we play/the amount of bookings our CM pairing pick up I'd feel a lot happier closing out the season with woods being able to cover coutts/fleck's 10 yellow 2 game bans than Lundstram. That's not a knock on Lundstram; just think Woods could slot into that CM pairing without us losing much in possession/going forward.

I disagree,I don’t think he did blow it,Wilder seemed very angry at his agent and seemed to feel sorry for the lad. Having said that we went for Sinclair when we were considered a bottom half team battling relegation Wilder won’t have have sold the club that way but the public perception pre season was exactly that.

Having said that things are very different now and any club up the top half of the PL will be knocking on our door offering their best young lads as they can clearly see we do a job of developing them noticed Ben Woodman is yet to make an appearance for Liverpool this season?

I think it is and if not Woods then someone else of a similar ilk. The sitting Midfield role and attacking side option for me are the only two roles we aren’t 2 players deep in and by 2 players I mean players who are competing for a starting place not just cover

Sinclair refused to stand up to his agent and clearly wasn't that bothered about playing for us otherwise he would have signed. He clearly lacks bottle and character and if that's what his true character is then he would not fit into a CW team. In the light of his behaviour he would doubtless now fail too many of the CW 15 criteria as well. The moment has passed and we now have Brooks as a regular in the squad. I bet you we never sign or try to sign Sinclair again! He typifies what is wrong with so many of the modern footballers and has shown himself to be a spineless individual not fit to wear the red and white shirt. Let what happened to him be a lesson to others. Brooks in committing himself has shown how it should be done.

I agree I don't think we will go back, but I think the reason being more we are shopping in a different store now. as I said I wouldn't be surprised if teams like Liverpool et al start offering us their first team fringe youngsters like Woodman. he's a very good player would love to see him at the lane

If we have a spare £4 or £5 million we might get him.

I can't imagine that a top books like CW will not have thought through his potential solutions to a leg break for any of our starting eleven.
He will already know the players he's after in January to replace Coutts and if we can stay in touch at the top of the League , it will be that much easier to sell the Lane as a place where the Premiership beckons.

I think our management, coaching and scouting staff will already have identified targets that are within our budget.

I think some of you are in for a disappointment. He's going to cost 5m plus which means his wages would be round 20k at least. We didn't just build a team with Sharp as the ceilijng in wages for anyone to come in and knock it all down.

I wouldn't be too surprised if sharp is getting close(ish) to 20k already to be fair. No doubt when he signed he would have requested that he got back on similar to what he was on at leeds when we got to the championship. And on top of that he's signed a new contract in the summer so if he gets another increase on that it would be possible.

For the record I completely agree with your point and while he's a good player I would like to think with our scouting we would be able to get just as good for a fraction of the cost.

Rated him very highly ever since he had a stormer playing RB for Shrew at BDTBL a few years ago and can play CM, RB and RM.

However, his current contract is until 2020 so would be very costly esp in Jan as I'm sure Brentford won't want him to go. It would certainly be a statement of intent should the Board sanction such a signing but I can't see it happening myself and think Leonard is far more likely a singing.

Coincidentally I was told earlier in the week by a Fulham fan that there was a rumour that Woods had been offered to Fulham. He didn't say how much for and I didn't ask as it didn't seem that important. He'd also heard though that Woods has recently bought a house 'in the Midlands'.

I'm not sure any of that is relevant but that's what I heard.

The only blessing of this injury is it has come with enough time between now and January to try and line up a replacement.

Imo Ryan woods would be an absolute ideal replacement - suspect he’s out of our price range unfortunately. But we had plenty of bids turned down suggesting there is some money in the bank at least

And after all it wasn’t long when it was all doom and gloom we didn’t get those players in on deadline day - that felt ‘season defining’ at the time.

£5m should not be out of our reach considering our position and the prize on offer. Doubt he would smash the wage structure either, seems just the type of lad to fit in here as well. We'll see how serious the Prince & McCabe are in January, Wilder's done his bit now they need to do theirs.
