That's where I asked Mrs Sitwell for our first date back in 1990 ,there was also a big scrap with Wendy in there a couple of years earlier when a well known Blade got glassed pretty badly.
Yeh I know the incident your on about Sitwell , always used to be a mixing pot in there with both us and the Oinks , I used to go in with a lot of the Blades from our end plus a few lads I used to knock about with who had a scrapyard ..let’s judt say we we didn’t take much shit & one or two of the Wendy that used to go in knew to keep a safe distance & not act up

The old Golden Testicle top boozer the landlord " Handlebars" barred me after some bollocks i was gutted.
I never managed to get barred LE , but I don’t think the landlord was was too keen on us in our younger days ! If you see my reply to Sitwell had a season ticket in there back in the day , always full of the pre- romeos fanny

I have never come across anyone who went to Rowlinson.
Remember Askham very well but was never taught by him, used to teach Geography I recall, was not good enough to do Geography.

Mr Kay was head master.
What period did you go mine was 1952-1957.

Enjoyed the football and cross country running.

One of my best days was leaving school.

UTB
Rowlo 1975-80
headmaster Dixon

Remember my 2nd ever day at abbeydale had to go to the hall for PE , everyone all whites on and pumps but one kid turned up in full football kit ,with boots and shinpads. He was mercilessly bullied by Howard Wilkinson and Dick Bate who nicknamed him Scuttle after the Benny Hill character. This stuck with him right up to leaving school and he never regained his confidence again despite being a really nice kid. Bastard that Wilkinson ,full weight.
full weight cheat we once played 'dale at football..he was ref.. nearly caused a riot the cheating bastard

My local tackle shop was Billy Clarke's. Still in business on Alderson Rd. Years ago it was on Woodhead Rd near the junction with London Rd.

Good lad is Bill - his dad had the shop on Woodhead Road, I used to park just round the corner on match days, get the bait boxes from the car on the way back, and stock up for Sunday’s match on the Trent or Witham....happy days.
Now a very good business with a good website

We used to go and check out the tackle at Bennetts, who always charged top dollar, and then go to Dawsons or Billy Clarke’s to buy it at a discount. Everyone seemed to do this, and it’s amazing that Bennett’s lasted as long as they did.
