Do Wilder's Blades play better quality football than England?

So much dead wood in the starting 11 and majority of the squad, Southgate doesn’t instill confidence but he’s not the problem it’s the quality or lack of it in the team and the lack of desire.
Dull, lacklustre performances match after match.
It’s great being a Blade and that’s all that matters, will be watching Wales though, Brooks will be a revelation!

The question I was asking myself is if England played in the Premier League would they get relegated?

We've just had the same debate in the office this morning, the overriding feeling is that they would probably be a bottom 5 team in the PL.

Everything about them last night was so slow, so laboured and lacked any real thought or precision. I missed the goal because I fell asleep towards the end. Do we just need to accept that we are bang average at the moment? The FA is the problem and the fact that the current culture means that even if you're on the bench or barely playing you're guaranteed an England place and it's pathetic. Perhaps if players of that ilk started being overlooked we might see a change in fortunes as they might just work their bollocks off to get in their club sides and thus earn the right to play for England, but until that happens it's gonna be the same owd same owd I'm afraid.

It's not the FA nor the management. We simply don't have the players. Most England players are made to look far better than they are as they are surrounded by superior foreign talent with their club sides.

They weren't even stepping out of third gear. All I can think is that they don't give a shit.

Where was the fucking tempo? They're meant to be top rate footballers. What's the point in pissing about taking ten seconds and waiting for all the other players to get marked? Its fucking stupid and I can't see any reason for it other than not giving a shit, not wanting to risk getting injured and it hampering their club season.

I'd rather have an England team of championship or league one players who are giving it absolutely everything than this half arsed shower of shite. At least that'd be something to be proud of.

But are the FA not guilty of almost actively encouraging what I've said? Oh it's alright you only get on the bench with the occasional cameo but as you play for "insert one of the top five clubs here" you're probably alright so you're in.

As boring as it was. I think people underestimate how difficult International football is.

Yeah yeah yeah.

"There are no easy games in international football....."

Like the Championship is a beach eh?

If it is that 'difficult' that it becomes 'boring'(your words), then why would anyone in their right mind want to watch it? Sorry, but in the main international football is a yawnfest. For England fans it is made even worse, due to our constant under achievement.

The first England match I remember well was Poland at Wembley in 73 (TC played) so I've been watching that ever changing bunch of overpaid prima donnas for 40 odd years, say 400-500 games.

In all that time there were a few decent home internationals against the Jocks, beating Italy 2-0 in 77(?), a couple of decent performances in Mexico 86, a good run in Italia 90, beating Holland in Euro 96, beating the Krauts 5-1 away and that is about it.

So maybe 10 very good games and another 10-20 half decent games out of 400.

Any wonder why I don't even bother now.

My main gripe with England isn't the lack of success. It's the lack of success coupled with utter, utter boredom.

If we are going to win fuck all at least let's win fuck all with a few 4-3 wins, 3-5 defeats and 4-4 draws thrown in.

We are lead by a man so pessimistic that he genuinely believes that there is a good chance of 3 goalkeepers suffering injures bad enough to put them out of action in the 10 days preceding a run-of-the-mill qualifier. Ironically the biggest threat to their wellbeing is slipping into a deep coma during one of his pre-training de-briefings.

And don't get me started on the presence of 2 holding midfielders at home to Slovenia. Just fuck off, and keep fucking off until you've fucked off so far you've come full circle. And then fuck off again you beige walking anaesthetic.

I wasn't going to bother watching the Russian and Qatar World Cups, so the fact that England will be shite is just the icing on the cake.

God if Stones is worth the Money Man City paid Barnsley, What is our Back 3 plus the 3 Covering players worth.
Tippy Tappy Football football with no end product. So Glad Wilder has taken us away from that brand of Football.
God Southgate must have gone to the Adkins/ Weir school of football. Shocking.

Lovely late winner. Walker chased it down well.
Kane got across his marker. Enjoyed that. Always love my team winning. It's the football fan in me.
I fully understand if those who aren't England fans didn't enjoy it. Long thread though. Lots of couldn't give a shitters, giving shits.

Lots of couldn't give a shitters, giving shits.

Scenario - You have a computer and keyboard (or phone), the marginal electricity cost is negligible and you have some free time.

Result - bollocks opnions on everything.

Forum bullshit as per usual and I'm very much included in this.

Just wait for some of the thread where people really do give a shit!

England desperately need an Eriksen, Mata or David Silva type. Its all pace and power with no thought. There was not one footballing brain on that pitch last night.

The Kuala Lumpur blind and disabled girls team play better football than England pal.

If you type England dna on Google then read the pdf file, that's what they are all having to follow Gareth downwards the FA are insisting that this is followed, free flowing football not allowed

Perhaps it's a long thread because it compared Engerland with the mighty Blades. Suspect just about everyone who bothers coming on here gives a shit about them!

For what it's worth, didn't see it, don't give a shit, looking forward to Ipswich next week when I'll be right up for it as always (well since Adkins/Hammond fucked off anyway).

In my opinion, after watching the game so far tonight, then definitely yes.
Southgate hasn't got a clue.
Can you imagine an England set up where the system comes first and the best players to deliver that system successfully come after? We don't have to imagine it, we see it every week. Unfortunately Lancaster Gate would have to burn in hell before a competent manager like Wilder would be appointed. They will stick with the puppets only calling up the glamour names from the glamour teams time and time again.

England were shit and have been for a while, managed by Southgate who is just too inexperienced.

Coleman gets Wales playing to their best - England are trying to be something that they can never be, and as for Southgate saying "we won't be like Spain after 8 months" is ludicrous. We will never ever be like Spain and should never try and emulate them.

We keep going over the same arguments year after year.

CW & AK would be a better job, because they actually recognise strengths and weaknesses in players and how it manifests itself in the GROUP or TEAM.

For me, Henderson and Dyer in CM is a recipe for disaster. We need lesser players, who would actually do a better CM job. Fleck and Coutts work together as a driving force for United, but probably wouldn't get in most Championship teams, but it is one of the main reasons why we "tick" as a team. The focal point of any team is centre midfield.

The problem is that the main qualification to be playing for England under Southgate is that you play for a big Club in the premiership.

You don't necessarily need to be in form, you may not even be played in your strongest position !! o_O:rolleyes:

Its the England way ....... :tumbleweed:

True - I reckon Sam Allardyce wouldn't have fallen for that and would have got the best out of what is available - bit like Bassett, Warnock and now CW did/do.

Saving England for what though, more humiliation?

yes, he got on the end of the ONLY quality cross of the evening from an England player.........Kyle Walker.

He was at the time playing a SUFC wing back position too as we had gone to 3 at the back.

Hello Mr Southgate..........perhaps you should consider 3-4-1-2 or 3-4-2-1 for England.............

It don't really matter who is the England manager the results will be the same as we don't have the players. It is a symptom of how football is run in this country everything is for the 6 teams at the top of the Premiership every season. Every bit of talent is hoovered up by the premiership clubs who then let them rot away playing for the under 23's. You get players with bags of talent in their twenties but they have hardly played any competitive football, all they know is B team football which amounts to a kick about with some mates. Then why would the work their bollocks off to get into the first team when they can earn millions playing under 23 games and the odd appearance in the League cup or a chuck a turd trophy B team. Let's be right we are getting as bad as Scotland, it really is saying something when England go into games with such as Wales and Rep of Ireland and don't automatically expect to win it fairly easily.
Another thing why do we always try to emulate the latest style of the World cup winners or European Championship winners there was a time when English teams playing our way always did well in Europe, we seem to lack the courage to play the game our way and to our strengths.

Just relaxing after last night at Wembley.
Bang. So glad England got it over the line. Too many missed qualifications. 1974 1978 1994 2008

Love it that my Club side are doing well.
Love it that my International side are doing well.

Happy days

If a job came up in the Premier League or the top half of the Champions , Southgate wouldn’t get considered.

There’d be better options every time.

Says it all really!

So the kids who are signed at 8 years old . Stary eyed, or what . As the seasons progress, they must realise that the top teams sign whoever they think is the best for the position that they have been supposedly groomed for
OK so what, they are still in for big biccies. Take the dough, take the dough, carry on, knowing that their chance es of making it to the very top where they have been striving for years are the square root of fuck all. A house for Mum and Dad and a wedge softens the blow for them. Loaned out to so called lesser clubs, they carry on, making more money than they ever dreamed possible.

The sad part, from a fans POV is that the international team is fucked up . Foreign players in the Premier league predominate. Fewer choices available to the English tells its own story. Then we have the managers who couldn't give a shiny shit about ENGLAND . Sorry about the capital letters. Perhaps this will be the only place that you will see the INGERLAAND name is lights

Love it that my Club side are doing well.

Playing some great footy and about 12 places higher than I expected. A great time to be a Blade.

Love it that my International side are doing well.

They are not 'doing well' though, are they? As per usual, they win all their qualifying games against lesser European countries with sub 5m populations.

As soon as we get to the tournament we fold, unable to beat the minnows and losing to our bigger 'rivals'.

Same old same old, but the good news for me , is that I no longer give a shit.

I agree mate. International football has that nice anyone might beat anyone feel to it. You've got to get out there & try to get it over the line. Sometimes you will. Sometimes you won't. Only one team with the Gold Medals at the end of the tournament.....

Just like I want The Blades to get to The Big Show, I want the same for the International Team I support. In this case World Cup Qualification. Good to get that over the line.

I'm happy for people not to give a shit. I don't give a shit about Colchester United (for example). But, I'm savvy enough to understand Colchester fans will be happy when they have won. England won. I loved it. On to Vilnius this afts...
