Phipps Speaks

Nice fella is Jim, that seems to be the consensus from the Blade's who met him.

I'm glad he can enjoy the success we're having, in a strange bit of logic perhaps we had to go through the two Nigel's periods to be where we are under Wilder. Call it fate, but we're here for a reason...hard times followed by good times, it makes the quality we're witnessing all the more sweeter.

A shame for Jim that we had useless twats for managers. Nice bloke, shame he's not on the wilder knill journey, onwards

Is it a coincidence that now he's not involved we are much improved? Likeable bloke but knew bugger all about football.

I enjoyed reading that from Jim Phipps.

I remember the first time that Phipps really impressed me and that was when he did those recorded interviews about the Ched Evans situation. This was when the club had changed it's mind about letting Evans train with us because of the shit storm that had blown up. I watched all three of those interviews as Phipps sat there and faced the most difficult barrage of questions, head on. Occasionally taking a sip of water and composing himself, he never once ducked a question or failed to answer it with absolute honesty and openness. I think it was probably the most impressive thing I've ever seen from anyone associated with this football club or any other tbh. I didn't really take much notice of the guy before then, but after seeing that I just thought, "Wow", we are very fortunate to have such a guy at our club. Intelligent, considered and ultimately professional. That's always an asset, and sometimes quite a rare one, to find in any organisation.

I always felt that the guy tried to reach out and be a genuine connection between the club and its fan base. He broke new ground with that via social media and I thought it was innovative and quite brave too. It didn't surprise me that it wasn't totally appreciated by some though. So, it's encouraging to read this thread and see all the very positive comments about him, but it's also rather puzzling as to where all his nasty critics have gone to? Because there were plenty on here at the time.

Is that a Halo round is head or has he had a plate fitted:D? Nice bloke. Hope he comes back to visit soon.

I don't know, only JimPhipps can know this and probably wouldn't answer being a real gentleman and professional, but the way the club is now; together, cohesive, a real connection between players, management, officials and fans, the integration of the womens' teams as part of the club, the flourishing academy, the much improved PR/publicity unit and so much more is the very thing he was striving for whilst he was here. I've no doubt that much of the positivity in the club now is as a result of groundwork done by Jim whilst he was at the club. A shame he isn't around to witness and enjoy the fruits of his labours, but health must always come first. Keep well Jim, continue with that positive support and I hope we see you soon at BDTBL.
