Not good enough

I think we were slightly off today. Gave the ball away a lot, nothing we tried came off and other than that one Brookes chance, don't think we ever really looked like scoring.

A rare off day but we look on to Sunday with the big boys back!

Yeah we weren't as fluent as we have been but I think if we had Sharp and Donaldson in the team we'd have definitely picked something up. The lack of presence and movement up front was poor today

100% agree about Sharp and Donaldson, think we'd have won if either of them played.

Think we also missed Sharp's harrying and chasing down.

Was an off day for alot of our players unfortunately however had Sharp and/or Donaldson been on that pitch I reckon we would have been coming away with at least a point.

Hey ho, on to the big one next sunday!!

I thought we'd left that standard of opposition and refereeing in League One. I expect Bolton to give us more of a game than that, and Norwich would definitely get turned over at Bradford or Fleetwood if that's the best they can do.

If it takes having all our strikers injured and extreme levels of time wasting/gamesmanship/atrocious refereeing to nick a 1-0 against us then I think most weeks we will be just fine.

Describe how we abandoned our footballing beliefs? jesus - i do wonder if some of our fans actually watch the game.

We had over 600 passes in this game, 68% possession and 85% pass accuracy. I don't think it was a lack of football being played.

We also stayed consistent with trying to get into good areas inside the penalty area.

The thing that was lacking was intelligent movement and link up from the strikers.

The time we did abandon our style was the last 10 mins when we were frantically trying to get the ball forward and played some hopeful longer passes and crosses. Even then Brooks still managed to work his way into the box but spooned it over.
Simple. Did you count how many times Coutts bombed the ball 40 plus yards towards the touchline in the first half? Then tell me how many times he's done that in the last 12 months? We've had 12 months of short sharp incisve passing to players always available to receive it - in the first half that just didn't happen.

FFS, just accept when we get something wrong. It's not the end of the world.

Brooks finishes his chance off in the first half, or we smash in a late equaliser, then these people would be raving about us.

We played well. Norwich were decent on the counter, and defended their lead superbly.

Very tough circumstances for us with the players missing, and I'm more than a little frustrated by the second half, but an established Championship side came to the Lane and were second best for much of the game.

Crap result, good performance. Make sure you notice the difference.

I think it shows how far we have come that teams like Norwich feel they have to come and Park the Bus to get a result against us.

We played well I thought, bar Evans who was terrible and unfortunately he was the only fit striker on the books.

Some people talk some right shit.

Decent performance, slightly slow in the build up against a cynical and ultra defensive opposition.

Some fans are fickle beyond belief.

Seems only a few fortunately

if that's wasn't good enough i think you really need to take into account we have 6 strikers all of which are injured apart from ched who is not fully fit and trying to get back to fitness and had to get shoved into playing 90 mins of a game despite not been fully fit. The first half and most of the second half I would have said we was by far the better team passing the ball around and moving just lacked the final bit to put the ball in the back of the net which is understandable considering the striker problem as mentioned. Brooks and Duffy tried there best to make them cause an error at the back which would have left us in which nearly happened a few times think they was very lucky with the run of the green not to mention that the ref let them get away with anything every time we built up a bit of momentum in the game they just threw them selfs to the floor and made it hard for us to get back into the game think that would have been a very different game if we didnt have all these injuries at the same time. Also as overs had mentioned if brooks had have put his chance away when he made it I think it would have been a totally different game and would have walked away with at least a point if not 3. I really don't understand how some people think we are going to wipe the floor with every single team we play despite only just been promoted.

A defeat always deflates us because we care. We need to have a look at the table and accept we have made a very decent start.
On holiday at the moment so I've missed the last three games. We have picked up 2 points a game in this time.
Go and get some ale and chill fucking out!
In Chris we trust.

Completely agree. I didn't think Evans was terrible but he was very average. Today though was another reminder in my view that signing someone with a recent poor record of fitness was not a smart move. You can't predict injuries/suspensions that arise throughout the season to players, but someone's recent fitness record before they sign is there to see. You can see why we were trying for three strikers – it was exactly this sort of scenario that they would have covered for. As it was we had to leave an unfit Evans on the pitch due to no other options, and pair him late on with Basham.

Fingers crossed two of the three missing will be available next weekend.

really?? thought we knocked it about lovely in the first half, just lacked a cutting edge, if brooks had taken his one on one it could have been a totally different game, but i don't have a clue what first half you were watching
As I replied to Borbokisfreekick. Coutts hitting it 40 plus yards across field often straight out of play.

Gonna get shouted at here but I thought we looked a bit heavy legged. Not sure who Norwich played mid week but a heavy duty physical game at Bolton must have taken its toll on our players. CW decided to give Billy, a reprieve and Clayton D needed extra recovery time. Not sure if Clarke could have played at Bolton or was he still suspended ? Brooks looked really lively but refs might not give him the benefit of the doubt when he's fouled or pushed off the ball because he's a skinny devil, great to watch though.
Feel a bit sorry for Ched, it's gonna take him a while to get up to speed, looked a bit demoralised at times.
Our keeper only had one shot to save, bar the goal of course.

No mark of an OP.

In fact complete bollocks.

Balance of play in our favour for most of the entire game. We had more possession and created more chances. In fact more chances than in any game this season.

Encouraging to see link up play with our front players, which has been non existent thus far.

Giving balance, we didn't create many clear cut chances.

Much made of the officials. Let's not forget that was a stone wall penalty for them when Blackman clattered the Norwich player. Mentioned this before, He really needs to sort his starting position out, which is never good.

Had we won today, we would have been top for next weeks derby. Shame.

Still 2 points off top is just fine as it stands. No complaints from moi.

Not to long back Norwich were a decent Premiership side and we were an average League 1 team
Well they were fortunate to win which shows how far we have come - the league table does not lie..

That is called a switch of play via a long pass after you have overloaded one side of the field with short incisive passing. Its something Barca have done for years - now we're not Barca, and Coutts doesn't have the technical capabilities of Iniesta - which is why the ball occasionally will go out of bounds when he tries said long pass. Freeman and Steven's first touch and anticipation also has a lot to be desired at times.

Again, we made over 600 passes. There was plenty of short incisive passing.

Our average passes per game last season was around 550 - so we actually surpassed that in this game.

I accept we didn't do enough to win the game. But I disagree that we abandoned our footballing beliefs. We completely stuck to them in our style of play, we just didn't have enough quality up front.
