And the doom-mongers stir away at the pot of negativity that engulfs anything from S2, maybe even wish it fail.

Fact sites are fake news now - if it suits. You should be a politician Pinch.

I'm very positive about this Blades team, Woody. I'm not, however, starry eyed about local youngsters. I love quality players. Young or old; Woodseats, Watford or Wagga Wagga. They're all welcome, if they're good enough.

Here, you might want this when you've exhausted the Wishing Star:

I'm the same age as Daniel Day-Lewis but I'm not expecting a fucking Oscar anytime soon...

Solid point as always. :)

You may often act like a know-it-all... but that doesn't make you an actor.

I'm surprised by the number of people that are questioning either Reed's age or current loan spell as reasons why he's on a downward spiral. There's less than a month between him and Brooks in age, and Brooks was practically being sent to the same club Reed is currently impressing in before an 11th hour rethink. I very much doubt had that loan gone ahead that we'd be having quite as many posts suggesting his career, at age 20, is going nowhere.

Of course had he stayed he'd be currently struggling to get a start owing to the fact that he has decent players ahead of him that are deservedly keeping their places. Not wholly unlike Brooks's experience in fact, what with him still to start a league game and all. Brooks I suspect will be successful if given the chance at this level. I suspect Reed's style of play is better suited to this level than leagues 1&2, so I wouldn't say he's done just yet – though he may have to leave us for chances.

I'm afraid he won't make it past league one level.
They said Jake Wright would never make it past L2. He was brilliant in L1. They said he would never make it in the Championship. He's been outstanding for us this season.... They say he'll never make in the PL but would you bet your house on that? I wouldn't. .
I rest my case with Louis....

I've been very consistent with my judgement on Reed. That doesn't make the judgement correct of course but I've never rated him, even when there was somewhat of a hype around him. He clearly didn't look ready when Clough started chucking him into first team games and since then has never really kicked on for us. Has he even featured in the match day squad under Wilder? I'll trust Wilder on this, and so would anyone else who is sensible

Yes, good point. A 31 year old that's never played higher than League 1? No chance of making it. There were some of our own fans suggesting he wouldn't be involved this season, even after his displays last season...

The vast majority of fans didn't rate Calvert Lewin, thought Everton were bonkers to buy him, and are still aghast at the fact he's been continuing to start. Fans are not football scouts.

Most of our fans when we signed him last season. Can only guess but you were probably one who chucked the toys out when he signed.

Fletcher went to Barnsley on loan from the Mancs and thereby was not back at the parent club when there was an injury crisis. Now, nobody would say Fletcher is better than Rashford but things like this can happen.

Brooks is a player. Whiteman is a player. Reed is a player.

Someone above questioned whether there was an inherent criticism of Wilder amongst all this debate.

Well, if you were a young lad at Bramall Lane last season you would feel hard done by, yes. Minutes on bench minimal, minutes on pitch couldn't have been less really.

Criticise Wilder last season, no way, there were other short term priorities, yes there were. Personally I am entirely confident Wilder can build in a Pathway for Youth when we are better settled as a club. Are there youth casualties at any club with short term and urgent priorities? Of course there are. Didn't Hansen say "you never win anything with kids" - that's why he said it and on that occasion he couldn't have been more wrong.

Criticise Wilder, a man I travelled to watch manage at Halifax? And followed throughout his managerial career -of course not!

Just neen watching Daniels of Bournemouth play beautifully, a master class of left wing back play in the first half.

He's 31 and by 23 years of age had played 38 games on loan at 3 clubs. He then played for Leyton Orient gor 3 years before he joined Bournemouth.

Pinchy, Louis has time on his side.

By the way, were you a fan of Simon Francis when he was with us as a young lad?

Took him 9 years after joining us before he became decent. I was a regular reserves watcher in the mid 2000s and he was always poor. Left us in 2005 and played in the lower divisions until Bournemouth got promotion in 2013

That's the point isn't it?

Reed has time then!

I still don't rate Calvert - Lewin.

All this after the kid scores one fucking goal in League Two.

Remind me to come on and provide a bit of balance when he doesn't and he's an integral part of a team that gets yet another pasting.

The small, one-paced boy's got nowt to offer us. Let him find his level. It will, fittingly, be a low one.

Really? Why? With what justification?

Had they payed their subs and washed the kit?...

The more successful we are,the less academy players will become first team players.I am astonished how people who follow football can't see this,Wilder is on a fast track and potential youngsters are not part of the plan. The academy is there to produce a flow of income, not to produce long term first team players, may be in the lower leagues but not now.

Who said that about Jake Wright?
I did tbh. I wasn't alone. But I've always said football isn't logical. How a player who's spent most of his career in the lowest leagues is looking comfortable in the championship is beyond me but it's probably testament to Wilder's genius.

We are not the only ones. Many Everton fans are of the same view.

Just so I'm sure...are one or two on here having veiled digs at Wilder for his treatment of lil Louis and the progression of our youth in general?

What would give you that idea? Sounds a bit of a stretch to me...

Of course he is. He's also taller. I don't care what websites say. I have eyes...

What a load of complete shit.

Oh don't get me wrong, clearly he divides opinion at Goodison. But there's a big difference in not rating him to be of any use at League 1 level and not thinking he's able to lead the line in the Premier League. Even his Everton critics would put him as Championship level at worst. Jordan Slew he is not.

A lot of truth in that Doc and yet we take unproven kids from other clubs on loan.

Blackman looks special but C-V looked weak in the air on Tuesday, hope he isn't. Whose to say Sinclair and the West Ham lad (Alungo?) would have been that good anyway, although I understand the pace aspect.

Boooooo. BushBlade out.

At this moment in time Long, Reed, and Whiteman aren't good enough for where we are and where we want to go.

I have hopes Whiteman might be in the near future, but i have doubts Long and Reed will be. I'll be happy if they prove me wrong.

Football is a results driven business and currently we've got the best management team we've had for many a year. Not only do we have a manager who makes very few mistakes, but he's also willing to acknowledge when he does and rectify it.

Am I the only one who thinks there's a whiff of pro Clough about this thread? For what it's worth I think Clough and maybe Adkins, exposed Reed to too much first team League 1 football at such a young age.

Unless it's Everton
