Jamie Ward?

Sheffield United and Derby are lining up bids for Chesterfield hotshot Jamie Ward. (Daily Mirror)

Haven't seen much of him, just seen the odd clip where he bangs them in.

Haven't seen much of him, just seen the odd clip where he bangs them in.
Some Spirites have questioned his commitment and say that his recent vein of form is more down to putting himself in the shop-window. I know nowt, by the way - never seen him play - it's just what I've heard a handful of fans say. :)

According to the Daily Star......

Blades boss Kevin Blackwell has made a £400,000 offer for Chesterfield striker Jamie Ward.

for £400k, maybe a good gamble, but if it did happen i think it would mean one of Webber or Sharp leaving for a larger fee to create more cash in the kitty, while retaining numbers in the squad

id be tempted to agree there, although unfortunately id have to think that it would be sharp more than webber that would be off. Webber does seem to tget more game time than sharp

Linked again this morning. £400k again.

hmm considering billy sharps goal scoring record in league 1 and the number of people who think he’s just not good enough at this level god only knows how jamie ward will do bad idea in my opinion.
Can’t see us having to sell to bring him in though.

I think he'd be worth a try. Especially for 400k.

Blades close in on striker Ward

Chesterfield have accepted a bid from Sheffield United for top-scorer Jamie Ward, BBC Radio Sheffield understands.
The 22-year-old is expected to hold talks with the Blades within the next 24 hours.
Both clubs have declined to comment but it is believed the fee is around £400,000, with a 15% sell-on clause written into the deal.
Ward, who turned down a move to Barnsley earlier this month, has scored 16 goals this season.

United in talks with Chesterfield over striker

Skysports.com understands Sheffield United are closing in on the signing of Chesterfield striker Jamie Ward.

Blades boss Kevin Blackwell has targeted Ward as he seeks to bolster his attacking options following the departure of James Beattie.

Chesterfield are resigned to losing Ward with his current contract due to expire in the summer and the player resisting offers to extend his stay.

Barnsley were keen to sign Ward earlier this month, but the move fell through after they failed to agree personal terms with the 22-year-old after a £400,000 fee had been set.

United have now swooped in and firmed up their interest in the highly-rated forward with an offer.

Both clubs are believed to be in ongoing talks over a fee for Ward with United hoping to tie up a deal for the former Aston Villa trainee in the next few days.

Just heard £400k accepted, personal terms agreed, medical as we speak. No source though, sorry dudes. :)

RS reporting that £400K agreed but terms not been disscussed yet. Will be in talk within the next 24 hours

Blackie lands Ward

United have completed the capture of Chesterfield striker Jamie Ward for a fee of £330,000.

The pacey frontman, who has scored 16 league and cup goals already this season, has signed a three-and-a-half year deal with the Blades.

The 22-year-old told sufc.co.uk: "I'm delighted with the move, it is another step for me. Hopefully I can prove myself and I'm confident that I can.

"Reading the papers, I knew there was interest from Sheffield United and I was waiting for the right club to come along.

Blades boss Kevin Blackwell, whilst glad to add Ward to his first-team squad, insists that supporters should not necessarily expect him to make an instant impact:

"I have brought him here primarily as a development player. He is under no pressure because I haven't signed him to replace anybody, but to gradually develop into a first-team player. How soon, we shall see."

The United manager has pledged to put more accent on youth and pace within his teambuilding plans and has achieved that with the signing.

Birmingham born Ward began as a trainee with Aston Villa before moving on to Torquay after a loan spell at Stockport. Chesterfield signed him for £100,000 two years ago and his speed and eye for a goal have made him a favourite at Saltergate, and a sought after commodity.

Blackwell added: "He has been on our doorstep and we have watched and monitored him for a while. From all reports he is hard working and has topped the goalscoring charts at a team that has been struggling to some extent, so that speaks volumes for him.

"He has pace and we have always said that we need to add that to the squad, so he ticks a box in that respect.

"Jamie can play in a couple of roles, out wide or behind the main striker, so he has more than one string to his bow and it enables us to make changes during a game if we need to.
"He reminds me very much of the likes of Andy Johnson and Paul Peschisolido - very tenacious with a turn of pace and technically decent."

He is unable to make his debut against Charlton on Saturday as he is cup-tied, but he will be available to make his Championship debut in the South Yorkshire derby with Doncaster Rovers next week.

Blackie just been on radio, in summary:

Blackies delighted he's joining the squad and adds competition for places.

Being top scorer in his league proves he has goals in him.

Development player, time to settle in, see how he progresses with no pressure on him.

Still looking at an established striker.

Jamie desperate to come.

Over next year or two he'll develop.

Very keen, very ambitious.

Still looking at a striker and a midfielder. Adds competition for places.

Talked to one of two clubs this afternoon, have to wait for a couple of premier clubs to make moves.

We've lacked pace, Jamie has pace.

Can only add more to the party.

Not hopeful before weekend, due to cup, but maybe next week there will be movement.

Trialists - Had a good welcome due to weather, will be having a good look in the next few days.

First blade on, never heard of him, not good enough. ;)

And Ithought we wasn't going to bring in anyone unless they were better than what we have already got, yet another damn lie. Still no doubt somebody will defend our Kev.

Joke of a signing, jack lester scores goals in league 2 ffs

all this and we are fucking about trialing trond olsen, they havent got a clue what they are doing down there!

Is it really a crap signing to grab a young player for the future? hardly a big gamble and it adds pace. Why use it against the club?

Id say it was an anticlimax signing really after chasing Lita.

Although we are looking for another striker still I think?
