Pre-Match View From Bolton

Just been speaking to my mate who lives in the area and most of his mates support Bolton. He says their fans are completely deluded and they bet him 30 quid that Bolton would finish above us this season. He's told them to start paying up :D

We didn't batter them at all in the first game last season. We barely looked like scoring for most of the match and neither did they til Spearing smashed that shot in.

Thankfully for us Wilder changed the team and sacked off the likes of Hussey.
Don't know what game I was watching then as I'm pretty sure we pummelled them in the first half of that game but the second was more even.

I am glad I am not alone in thoughts like that. For me it's nothing personal with any player in R&W, but it was pretty obvious the team that started last season was pretty poor.

You were probably watching the match at Bramall Lane.

i thought 1st half we created loads just wouldn't go in & then they scored with a shot through a load of bodies at a corner. might have to rewatch highlights

“This lot have only won one championship away game in their last 5 seasons.
We should be getting something.”

There's manipulating stats to suit an agenda, and then there's desperation to clutch as many straws as possible....

We've also only lost two championship away games in the last six years... two can play at that game!

I get the impression the person who wrote that was saying it in jest ... I would counter can we include the Prem teams we've beaten away in the last 5 years Villa, Fulham, West Ham, QPR :)

I hate it when the oppo fans are chucking the towel in before the game ... it usually means only one thing with United :(

I must defend the 'only difference' fan.

We lost 1-0 in the corresponding fixture last season. Jay Spearing scored, hence he was the difference.

I think that's what he's referring to.

"The only difference between us last season was a midfielder that no longer plays for us".

Astonishing ignorance of just how much better than them we were last season.

They had one player who I'd swap.

Don't think Mark Howard would get in our side to be honest these days

We should beat these, but at the weekend Parkinson looked ahead to this match and said that Bolton were in a mini-league with us, and presumably the likes of Millwall, Burton etc.

The actual league table makes a mockery of this statement but given that they're obviously looking at this one like some sort of cup final it may be tougher than we anticipate. They'll be physical and well up for it. Still think we'll have enough to beat them, mind, but I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up as a stalemate or we contrive to balls up every chance in front of goal and suffer a shock defeat.
Obviously hope i'm wrong, the good thing is we have a manager who never takes any opponent lightly, and I suspect is not a fan of this particular club continuing on from last season, so may see this as an opportunity to put them to the sword.

Great feeling to be about 8 points clear at the top of Parkinson's mini league

Ah fair play. Didn't even think of that

“The only difference between the teams last season was a midfielder that no longer plays for us – They’ve strengthened. Our new recruits aren’t available” Am I reading this correctly? Is he saying we were basically the same as each other last season but they were better because of Spearing?

There certainly is a strong whiff of that in their comments. For example, We're playing a side that came up with us at home. We have to look for all three points here. Er, no pal, you came up with us and it wasn't really close. At six matches in, it's still early days, and no one should be getting cocky; but the table has already entered into "The Table doesn't lie" mode. I'd begrudge no man his hope, but some folks mistake their delusions with hope, and that's when tragicomedy gets going in earnest.

I think he's forgot the fact that we're also unbeaten in the Champions League since the competition began , having said that though so are they

Based on what we saw last season and this one so far, Bolton fans must have the closest mindset to the Pigs than any other team in the league. Delusional personified. No wonder they're called the flipping Trotters. :)

We had one shot on target.

was just reading James shield report at the time. he seemed to report espically the 1st half as i remember

Jay Spearing's goal, scored during the closing stages of a first-half the visitors had largely dominated, proved enough to settle this hard-fought League 1 fixture between 2 clubs fancied to mount promotion challenges.

Spearing's strike was perfectly executed but flattering on a Bolton team which had spent most of the 1st half trying to keep United at bay.

Leon Clarke, Billy Sharp & Chris Basham had earlier come within a whisker of edging them into what would have been a deserved lead.

Barcelona haven't beaten us either. Silly cunts.

Yes, we have a great record against Barca, Real Madrid, Bayern, Juventus, AC Milan, Inter, PSG
None of them have beaten us in 128 years

If proof were needed The Star is full of crap.

mostly balanced, with a couple of there glue sniffers taking to the keyboard as well.

Still dislike them and want a win, lets keep them rooted to the bottom of the table, bet they are glad they came up to the Championship :)

We were not the better side for the majority of that match.
I think some people including your good self are blurring those first four games into one, if you get the chance to watch the game again we were by far the better team in that game and most of the Bolton fans at the time were in agreement. Admittedly, we didn't create loads of chances but we were the better side that day.
